Cerclage insertion are usually done at the office but they could also be done in the OR. It's a very quick procedure. You would use some type of mersilene sutures to close the cervix to prevent the baby from coming out. Once you're ready to have your baby, the surgeon will cut the suture down there prior a vag delivery or c-section.

Yes! Even the tech that you shadow could sometimes ask you questions lol. It's nothing to intimidate you bec all residents, med students and PA students all get asked a question. One time one of our surgeon was asking where the xiphoid was and the med student didn't know 😩

Would you recommend doing a surgical tech fellowship while in school? I have the opportunity to and have 2 more semesters of clinicals left.

Hmm never heard of a fellowship? Isn't that for med students?

@@SURGICALTECHGEEK it is a new program my health system is trying out! It would essentially be like clinicals, I would go in for 2 10 hour shifts that would be paid and I would also have a preceptor the entire time. I’m struggling with the decision because I don’t know how much I will need to study for the CST exam in the spring when I graduate. What do you think?!

Hello, why is it so hard for scrub tech, to teach new students. I’ve been in multiple surgeries and it’s hard getting what I need, so I can learn. Like I just understand it, and then you have some surg techs that well let you set up and then they take over. As for me I can’t learn like that I need to be just put in it and be guided. I have Covid now so I will be missing about 2 weeks of my clinicals which sucks because we just started.

Oh I'm so sorry u got sick!! 😔 well you know some techs arent teachers. Some are God some are bad. I had both. I like to show how I do things for a baseline then you do yours. I give little advice here and there but optional to apply to your set up. I always say that these guys that are being so difficult are just temporary so don't let them get to you. Remember you took out loans for this field. You busy your ass to pass all your classes. You woke up to clinicals. And you're gonna let a current scrub tear you down? Lol I bet tf not. You go chase your dreams boo.

What about being pregnant while working as CST? what are the restrictions or recommendations. I am about to start my Surgical tech program and Im super excited that I switch careers from nursing to surgical tech but I am almost 30 and I do plan on having kids within the next 5 years.

Do u mind asking me why the switch? We have pregnant techs. Theyre just not doing heavy cases and xrays.

@@SURGICALTECHGEEK I have been a CNA for 3 years, I was able to learn about other occupations besides nursing, I had a family friend encouraging me to look into surgical tech, but my heart was set on becoming a Nurse but Due to personal problems I took LOA for 6 months from nursing school. And I recently reconnected with my Advisor after a long talk, he allowed me to take the entry test for the program, and I have the option to start with the new ST cohort in OCT or continue with my LVN, I have loved learning about anatomy and physiology since I was a kid and I believe CST career may be a better fit for me than Nursing,

@@theonewithjen8645 I was a nursing student too and transitioned to ST. I don't regret it. You're on the right path. You'll be fully connected once you get in and maybe nursing will be the next goal.

I’ve had this procedure twice now and I have to get anxiety meds before my procedure because I’m just like this I such a sensitive area if they don’t numb me enough 😅 but I’m numb for hrs after the procedure lol

Always get thrown for a loop when the surgeon is left handed. Needle loading becomes more difficult.
