This is a successful attempt to repair an Integra DTR-40.3 experiencing a notorious problem on 2011-2013 models of Íntegras and Onkyos where you lose audio and network control. No special tools required, took me less than 1 hour.
Repair Tech here.. Integra stuff is very good I own a DTR R1.1 myself and it has operated flawlessly without issues and I bought it refurbished too. Integra decided to forgo using heat sinks on the chips to save money. They knew about this problem from the drawing board and it ended up costing them even more money. Be sure and put a Heat Sink on that chip and check all the other chips with a thermometer so it won't happen again and make sure you have enough forced air cooling in your rack and you won't have these problems. I'm glad you were able to solve the problem. No need to bake your board next time.👩🍳
The DSP chip on onkyo receivers over heats and desolders it's self from the hdmi board. Best way to fix this is to use a heat gun get the solder to remelt. After the fix is done you will need to attach a heat sink to the Dsp chip to prevent it from over heating and aslo get a cooling fan...
Can't believe it worked! Great job! Had a little trouble getting 2 of the 5 wires back in those tiny holes of the port, doesn't seem like I need them....for now lol.
You are pointing at the wrong chip. The chip you point at doesn't even need a reflow solder as it has exposed pins. The problem is the the smaller chip above it which uses a ball grid array soldering, which requires reflow since the contacts are under it.
It requires replacement with newer revision without factory flaw, not idiotic reflowing which fix for few weeks. More idiots read and watch that kind of idiotic repair methods and then after few reflows boards is garbage and AV also because boards are not available. Stop destroing good AV you F MORONS!!!
OMG! i know this is old video but this worked for me just did it right now. it took me full 20 minuets and im ready to rock. Thank you for a great video :)
It's so unfortunate about some of the integra models because they are wonderful units. What's really crazy is that their support service seems to have disappeared when they started having the hdmi issues.
I have a beast of a receiver the Onkyo tx-sr805. I have six 80mm cooling fans running on top of it. One of the fans is in the area of this chip. I have never had an issue and the receiver is from 2007.
Hi DJ, You need to put a heat sink on top of the DTS Chip. You can buy them on Amazon and probably Ebay. Some of them come with the adhesive on the back of them. Look on the Onkyo fix for no sound here on RU-vid and they show you which chip it is. It's on the right side as you eere looking at it and l think it says DTS on the top of it, l think it only small msybe 5/8" square with a gold piece in the upper left corner. If you dont put a heat sink on it, it will just keep happening.
Wroooooooooong. It has been shown in other videos that using a heat sink on top of the DTS chip does not help. I mean, why would it when warming it up is actually what makes it work again? Keep it cooler does not help. At all.
@@needsmoreclipping sorry mate, you are very wrong. The chip gets hot, not enough to melt the solder but after time, the solder dries and cracks, reflowing remelts the solder completely and fixes the crack joints. Keeping it cooler helps keep the solder in good condition and prevents further cracking.
The chip you pointed to was most likely not the problem, but rather the BGA chip behind it. QFP chips dont desolder themselves. Secondly, you have absolutely zero clearance above the receiver in your rack, leaving little for heat to escape, heatsink or not. Hence, this will likely happen again...
You are right, it's the BGA chip. But i do have 1U clearance in top of each receiver and rack fans circulating air. This problem will happen regardless of rackmount, it's a series defect unfortunately
@@tonifatec not anymore.... I got maybe 1 1/2 years out of it, when it failed again i tried to completely de-solder the chip and ended up messing up the board completely. RIP :(
Have a Integra DTR50.3 that just went out on no audio, saw your video on baking the board, will try on my unit tomorrow. Do you need to bake the board at 380 Degrees for 8 mins. as I saw other clips only showing for 2 mins at 180?
worked for me on onkyo tx-nr616. fails while stuck at home because of covid, of course.... symptoms: no sound input, no network, can hear relays but not in the right timing... heating the dsp chip with hair dryer allow the receiver to startup correctly. added heat sink years ago, and two 12cm low speed computer fans extracting on top of case. the chip never really overheated, most of the time 30°, not more than 40 maybe 50°c max, but it fails anyway. simply putted the board 9' in pre heated oven at 180°c. not more not less.
@@vortexor1 hi. I had to repeat twice, but yes still working. moreover, I bought another nr616 with same issue 30€, which is nearly the price of remote control alone. this time without removing the card I used hot air gun with a piece of tin on the chip to check temperature: worked at first attempt. it was 50 days ago. maybe you should test different solutions to find the one which best works with your amplifier. regards.
I have successfully baked several iMac desktop video cards to re-seat the chip. Going to try this with my Onkyo HDMI board. I have nothing to lose, I already replaced it.
I have two one the original still working the other was Exchanged mine and new got the same problems down the line . They knew it had the same issue when they sold it . Surely wouldn't have cost that much to have this done professionally for customers .
Hi FRED and Thanks for the video. on my case when the sound stop to be heard. I also lost the icons of the 5 speakers in the display screen. so when I heat the chip inside the Oven, the 5 icons of my speaks comes back but with no sound.. do you think it the other CARD that needs to be heated the same way ? ( the one with the speaker connectors ) ? any other recommandation please ? because by logic , If the speaker's icons comes back this means that I m supposed to have sound, but it s not the case . Please Help
I have the Integra DTR 50.4 and from Day 1 I had 2 fans pulling heat out of the case...but 8 years later I'm having the same issue. I think I'll see what can be done through Onkyo/Integra and then decide to use a heat gun and heatsink for that little DSP chip.
@@djfredmiami thank you so much for the reply! What are you currently using? The relative drop in WPC and increase in THD from old to newer models kind of bums me out.
@@djfredmiami my Onkyo TX-NR3007 was repaired for the no sound issue back in 2013 and unfortunately developed the same issue about a month ago. DSP chips all say ????? for firmware. I really liked the sound of the 3007 and despite improved connectivity, I feel newer models are essentially a step down. On average they weigh 20lbs less than older models.
Hi there! In my case sound does not come out of tv. Both pieces of equipment are connected via hdmi arc. I have also tried the other hdmi inputs in the receiver but none of them work. The funny thing is that my blu-ray connects to the receiver normally. Only tvs get mute. I have tried other tvs as well, so there is nothing wrong with the tv, and I have been using a suitable 1.4 cable. Any suggestions? I do not want to take it to a shop and get ripped off, after all it is a pretty old receiver.
@@shvideo1 Indeed. The real question though is whether you want to do this in your food oven and not with a heat gun, even if you have to buy (a cheap) one for $30.
Wow!! You took big risk putting this board in the oven!! ...Did it solved the problem definitely? Did the failure appeared again? How long did it last?
i know its a old video but you never put a amp in a cramp space it needs air all around it thats why you never put things on top of a amp and it will never overheat to the point of having issues im still running a cheap pioneer vsx-521 and still work because nothing is on top of it since i got it
the issue with these integras was a known issue. they actually hd a recall on them. as long as he has proper ventilation in the rack he should be fine.
Hey dude I request your assistance in fixing one of my issue with Onkyo TX-NR609. The issue is the system has gone into stand-by mode and hence none of my switch is working and I am unable to even change it to USB or any other mode. It is stuck in CBL/SAT - THX Cinema mode and Volume on 24. Please help if you get a chance to read my message.
You need to buy the dts chip revision D. Revision A, B and C having-same issues. You can try heat gun fir 1 minutes from above 8” inches but it’s temporary fix. Get the chip and pay for electric replace it.
@@igormgil i replaced it and is working like a charm!! Not issues. I have an extra chip just in case! I sent my board for a fix to the Dominican Republic
@@franciscourena19 Whoa, great! I am unsure about buying the chip on Aliexpress or Alibaba ... Here in Limeira, SP, BR, it is difficult to trust a good technical assistance. I'm glad for you!
sorry to tell you this but your problem and everyone else is not the chip u pointed to but rather the texas instrument dts chip just in front of that one ,is the problem on all onkyo recievers
