Integrated PIG and FISH Farming | Integrated Farming System Model 

Raising pigs can be effectively combined with a fish culture in ponds as well as vegetable farming. In tropical countries like India, this is a suitable option as pigs grow faster and at a steady pace in hot climates. Since the food habits of people are changing constantly in India, there is a much higher demand for pork meat. This integrated system can be implemented by building the pig pen at the perimeter of the pond. A vegetable or crop farm can also be incorporated into this system with proper plant watering by drawing water from the pond. The pig excreta if released to the pond, becomes digestible food for the fish. In fish farming, a major cost is the cost of fish food, which is close to 60% of the total cost. Pig excreta contain about 70% digestible organic matter for the fish. The pond water can be used to bathe the pigs as well as provide them with sufficient drinking water. Adult pigs need 30-50 L of water on a daily basis. The pig dung acts as excellent pond fertilizer and improves plant growth at the bed of the pond, raising biological productivity and fish production. The pond dykes provide space for the erection of animal housing units.
