Excellent! Application of momentum makes the difference between circus and real possible fighting usage of martial arts. Nothing new but often hiding or ignored by so called masters. Thanks to MMA we can visualize the real art in kung fu.

All sounds good, and very methodical. The limitation is that is too much emphasis on striking. The only time your hands and arms are going to be in positions similar to Chi Sau is in a grappling situation. Other than clinching or grappling, chi sau has no correlation to modern day striking. On the street, we all grew up watching boxing. People don’t present similar scenarios to chi sau when striking. The hands are held either down or very high.. and strikes come with rapid change in distance, like a spear they step in and jab. They also don’t counter with things like a wu sau. People just Move and change level. You’ll never pin someone’s arm down with one hand off a striking engagement. These applications are cool for a Wing Chun division in a tournament. But, outside of that… train it with grappling. Thai Plum. Shuaijiao Chinese Wrestling. Judo. Combat Sambo. Whatever you can. Only then Chi sau will make sense in a proper context.

Negative! I've seen REAL Wing Chun vs boxing, and REAL Wing Chun, ALL the principles shared in this video work and apply for and to combat and in the streets. The bong sau is NOT just a block or deflection, it can be applied as an elbow strike as well at any given time. These sticky hand drills, chi sau and dan chi sau are NOT just drills, they teach you to feel and have sensitivity, it's trapping arms, fists, and hands applying pressure toward and through your opponent and getting in strikes, NOT just for grappling and NOT just to take someone to the ground. You can even apply the lap sau to break your opponent's arm, with the proper angle and redirecting. GOOD, REAL, TRUE Ip Man Traditional Wing Chun Kung Fu is absolutely devastating, and anyone that says any of it doesn't work is either lying, doesn't understand it, or did NOT have a REAL teacher. These principles come from the 3 empty hand forms, Sui Lim Tao, Chum Kiu, and Bui Gee. Chi Sao and Dan Chi Sau are also palm strikes and thrusting fingers, eye gauging. Ip Man's Traditional Wing Chun Kung Fu is the very foundation of Bruce Lee's, Jun Fan's Jeet Kune Do, and Wing Chun is used much in Jeet Kune Do. Check out the Jeet Kune Do Sifu on Budo Brothers channel on RU-vid. They just did the same exact thing like in this video, sticky hands, Chi Sao, Dan Chi Sao, trapping. A lot of Jeet Kune Do is Wing Chun. They flow together. At any given time, a block or deflection can be a strike, and a strike can be a block and deflection, attacking and defending, defending and attacking ALWAYS at the exact same time, simultaneously. Bruce Lee, Jun Fan was a street fighter. He knew, learned, and understood what works and what doesn't work in real street fights. That's why he founded Jeet Kune Do, and is the founding father of mixed martial arts. HOWEVER, if it were not for Ip Man teaching Jun Fan Ip Man's Traditional Wing Chun Kung Fu, there'd be no Jeet Kune Do, mma, or ufc. The other thing about trapping arms, fists, hands in Chi Sao and Dan Chi Sao is you can easily apply Chi Na breaks and joint locks with the bong and lap sao. ABSOLUTELY DEVASTATING! You don't have to go to the ground to win a fight. In fact, Ip Man's Traditional Wing Chun Kung Fu and Bruce Lee's, Jun Fan's Jeet Kune Do teach you to win on your feet while also, IF AND WHEN necessary, to take care of business on the ground. The ground though is the last place anyone wants to be in combat or in a street fight, rolling on the ground, I mean, but of course it's good to have a ground game just in case. Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it. "Be water, my friend." Bruce Lee
