When I last tested the ARC a750 and A770, they were, to simply put it, a complete mess. Though trying out the GPUs nearly a year later, I am actually quite impressed how far the stability has come in particular, as well as much more consistent performance. Though there are still quite a few problems that have been not only void of fixing, but haven't even been addressed....

I really am impressed given the time Intel have had and where they are and if you watch how transperant they are with gamersnexus when asked questions, they are really establishing trust and attending feedback from customers IMHO. No small feat considering. EDIT: the intel team doing the interface need to talk with the software engineers having watched the whole video, capture card and uneer volting etc are issues that will effect purchasing

Considering where Intel started with the A770 and A750, getting them to the point where they are competing with an RX 6600 at the very worst is quite an achievement.

Unfortunately the reality is quite different. in DX11 and newer it might compete with the RX 6600 at worst, but when you get to less popular DX9 games, they can be completely unplayable. And then if you go even older, e.g. DX6 or DX7, everything is broken. Menus are improperly rendered, polygons are stretched to hell and back and textures are obliterated. It's a real shame.

I've had no issues in games and it runs well at 1440p, it's great for recording videos and editing, and I also haven't had any issues with it in daily use like the weird sleep issues some have mentioned. Btw Bryan, are you able to steam to RU-vid with an Arc GPU and Intel's own software? I haven't been able to with my A770, and I also cannot find a single discussion about it online. Also for me their software refused to install or launch initially, it took a community thread from more than a year ago to tell me to unpack the GPU drivers and I believe do some command line stuff to get it to install. Then for the Arc-specific program with the recording software, that I was able to install but it wouldn't open up. Nothing I tried worked. But after some days or weeks I was suddenly able to launch it. All-in-all the software side seems terrible still, and from my recent experience it is still (and I guess always will be) best to assume that any DX9 or earlier game doesn't run properly, until proven otherwise.

Additionally other older games I tested (DX6, DX7) are rendered completely broken, with polygons stretched to hell and back and textures utterly destroyed as well. In my other frequently played game, Assetto Corsa (DX11), it actually did almost as well as my 4060 Ti. The framerate was slightly lower and there were occasional stutters that I don't have with my 4060 Ti, but it was just about good enough. In the end though, if it can't play my main game, it's not something I can realistically use, so it's sitting pretty on a shelf now. I'll keep it as a reminder of Intel's brave but troubled entry into the dedicated gaming GPU industry.

Capture card issues seem like a real problem if you are a content creator. How is that acceptable? It is a good thing to see a third player in the discrete GPU market. But I don't know how well Arc has been doing overall. Their most popular Intel GPU's are still the embedded ones found primarily in laptops and netbooks. 'm more interested in the productivity value of the Arc series, as the prices do appear reasonable (outside of the above mentioned RX6XXX series mentioned) , and the drivers have been making some strides forward. I primarily use Linux and Opensource software, and i hear the Arc drivers in Linux are also doing quite well, too. I like to stick with open source to avoid dealing with software licenses. I suppose. I have been hobbying in digital animation for a few years, not taking it professionally. Vector animation eats up a ton of system resources, and it only scales up with higher resolutions. especially in the rendering. Arc GPU's seem like they would excel in that area.

It seems like the phrase "there is good and bad" is the key opening and ending statement for every Arc review, the good has grown a lot, the bad has shrunk, but is still there. I have had an Arc 770 LE 16GB since January 23, and have been very fortunate that the only game I have had true troubles with was Starfield at launch. The only game I play alot that is older is No Man's Sky, which uses Vulkan, and runs perfectly on the A770. I would be OK putting a lower end Arc, like an A380 or 580 in a lower end PC that I was selling as an office PC with some gaming capabilities, but would have to think twice before putting it in something I was selling if I weren't it to someone I wasn't sure was technically savvy enough to understand what they were getting. Besides, I can sell a PC with an Nvidia 1060 for the same amount as the same PC with an RX6600.

I'm using an A770. I could be doing worse, considering I needed to replace my GPU during the great gpu shortage. It had the advantage of actually existing and was only scalped at $100 over retail. Due to the sunk cost fallacy that results, I am not able to justify a replacement now, since it hasn't exploded or caused a singularity or anything.

tried out the a770 8gb and without getting numbers through benchmarks i cant tell if there is a rx 6600 or the arc doing the gaming job. i bought it used for 180 bucks and it should not cost more than 200 new in my opinion. the 16gb version is about over 300 bucks here in germany and at this pricepoint i would buy an 6650 xt. yeah i know 16gb of vram...nice but if u look what most of the ppl play u dont need 16gb. not for the strange premium prices. there are some good cards on the market for the casual gamers. i hope the next generation would be better performance with better pricing. i dont care about high end stuff, my usual customers pay 600-1000 euro for a gaming pc. and when one single component is higher priced than your whole system... well i guess you are one out of one hundred the few who can afford that just for play some games and spend one or two years later the same amount of money to hold the line.

I use a A380 for Linux OBS encoding, it does a pretty good job. I have videos on my YT channel just playing games etc.. Twitch is 6k, and YT is 10k AV1 _(thought YT I think automatically will convert or show vp9 unless you force it otherwise)_ I USE A AVERMEDIA CAPTURE CARD ON THE A380 _(usb, on linux, no fancy software needed)_ I can turn off HDCP I believe on the capture card(usb) side, but the easy fix is just avoid hdcp content. Not hard.
@gerarderloper

Intel claim you can disable HDCP in the registry on their website. For Windows at least, I don't even know if the Linux Intel Mesa drivers allow HDCP or if it can be disabled.

Oh I have an Aver too as my main cap card, how do you disable it on the capture card side? No option in obs that I could find. I'll check out the regedit too, but why can't they just make an option like nvidia and amd?
@gerarderloper
@gerarderloper Месяц назад
@@techyescity The AverMedia come with their own software to configure the thing and once set you can just move it to any machines USB port and it will keep those settings. There is a HDCP setting in the AverMedia software's settings section somewhere.
@GeminionRay
@GeminionRay Месяц назад
Alternatively you can just bypass HDCP completely. I've done that on my PS3 and my Samsung devices with an HDMI splitter that also doubles as an HDCP stripper. It's a bit clunky to set up but it works when you need it.
@gerarderloper
@gerarderloper Месяц назад
@@GeminionRay Yeah you can but not all splitters can do it, I think you need a 2-output one simultaneous. And if you have a 120-240hz 4k setup then your options get even more limited.

As an A770 owner, I will say it’s a solid gpu if you can get it for under $300. On newer games like Ratchet and Clank it performs wonderfully especially taking advantage of the 16gb vram. I could deal with drivers issues since Intel told us from the beginning that it could be rough and older apis wouldn’t be ideal. I bought it to give Intel a try and support. I’m tired of Nvidia screwing gamers over with insanely high prices.

These drivers will continue to be improved and developed, even if Arc dies as a discrete graphics card competitor, because this architecture is what is going into future iGPU, APU, SoC, etc from Intel. They needed these cards out in the wild for some real world beta testing, and driver development is a years long huge undertaking to bring things up to a legitimacy comparable to Radeon and Geforce. if Intel could in the next generation or two get something like the A770 baked directly into their consumer CPUs and LP SFF budget upgrade cards, they could have something people would seriously consider over giant power hungry expensive monstrosities that even "budget" and "midrange" GPUs have become.
