I'll be at the drift and drag for Urban Racing next weekend doing exactly this. First time and I was approved for media. Can't wait actually. One big tip I got from the video itself is, it's best to be at the turns for good angle shots. That and of course capturing the drivers as possible.

Awesome video I know its almost a year old but if you havent already start experimenting with lowering your shudder speed. It takes practice but the cars wont look parked on track! Sick work either way!!!

That was very cool, i'ved tried sometimes to shoot drift events, they are very nice one thing, that i dont understand as much its what SD card u guys have, mine can handle the sony burst mode xD Great vídeo as always 💪💪

Do you typically run a higher shutter for drifting/Motorsports events? I’ve been trying lower shutter panning for that motion blur effect but the success rate is usually pretty low 🥲 Epic video btw!

Yea I think he missed a big opportunity with runnnn in g the high shutter speeds. It’s certainly more risky but those photos are worth it in my opinion. They tell a story of the speed these machines move at

He’s a Sony shooter. They shoot everything in Burst mode at f1.4 with 1/2000 shutter speed. 😂

Seriously though, the shutter speed should be 1/(the speed the car is moving) as a rule of thumb for panning. Drift cars aren’t moving fast in a straight line but they have a lot of lateral movement. I usually shoot 1/50 or 1/40 on average. Don’t be afraid to lower it below that for more artistic shots. And don’t expect your hit rate to be high in the beginning. A 10% hit rate is pretty average for moving Motorsport photos.

@@theothersmith9570for drifting I like a little faster than that, like 1/200 or so so the smoke plume doesn’t smudge too much while still keeping a decent amount of motion. Personal taste at the end of the day.
