@@hpotter2954 Totally amazing how someone can ignore what T has done. His handling of COVID killed a million plus in America. Jan 6th where he incited a riot that killed patriotic defenders. How can justify that, it's way beyond WEIRD !!
Yes! I watched Mitch steal those 2 seats with naked pride and a smirk just to be sure everyone knew what he did. For Barret to sit in the seat of RGB is judicial blasphemy.
Formerly incarcerated people, that served their time and re-entered society, fundamentally should have the right to vote because they still have to pay taxes. What happened to no taxation without representation?
If you don't drink alcohol in excess. If you don't smoke( not sure if he ever did smoke). If you keep your weight under control...it's completely doable. It all takes discipline and self esteem. Good genes helps too..
Great conversation. I thought I had a pretty good idea about how elections work. But listening to conversations like this one has helped me realize that I have alot more to learn about our elections and voting systems.
Very informative interview. It is always good to see Former AG Holder and Symone is an excellent interviewer. This felt like an enlightening conversation between friends that we got to sit in on... which it probably was.
It really did. She was on Pod Save America with Jon Lovett yesterday, and it was the same thing - like sitting down with fun, well-informed old friends!
They say that the wheels of justice and government turn slowly and that is true, however, when something is imperative, it's good to know that those wheels can be re-oiled so they speed up. It was absolutely imperative the vetting process of Tim Walz be done fully and quickly. It certainly was and knowing Eric Holder, it was done thoroughly.
A most interesting & informative interview, very helpful, beautifully presented. Loving MSNBC Election coverage. I find it educational & watch as often as possible from here in the UK.🇬🇧🤝🇺🇲🥰
Love you Eric Holder - great job vetting Tim Walz and your job in the Obama Administration and the important work your doing now. Thank you!!!! Vote blue 💙
I also believe ex-felons should be able to Vote. How does it help anyone who paid their debt to society, and far removed from incarceration, hopefully thriving, still unable to cast a vote. Laws should change around this voting issue.
I have disliked Symone for years, but she did a good job here, a really nice interview. i have never seen anyone interviewed about vetting a candidate. Holder has been doing vital work since he left the Obama admin. "In 2023, Holder was one of the lawyers representing Tennessee politicians Justin Jones and Justin J. Pearson, who were expelled from the Tennessee House of Representatives for leading a protest in favor of gun control on the House floor." this work and his work protecting our voting rights has just been....great.
@@oliviaturner7388 She's a very strong personality, and doesn't care to try to fit the mold so many others struggle to jam themselves into. Many people find that off-putting or intimidating.
She’s a political expert. She knows the topics well. She’s great. Plus she’s skilled at not “overpowering” her guests with her confidence and her intellect, which is a tough thing for highly intelligent black women to do successfully, without being called “aggressive.”
If we are going to expand the SCOTUS, we may want to follow the thinking of 1869, when the current number was established by Congress. Back then, we had nine Federal Courts of Appeal, a population of 38,558,371 and did not allow Blacks or women to vote, and we had 37 states. Now we have 13 Federal Courts of Appeal, a population of between 335,893,238 and 345,694,376, depending on the source, and 50 states. I believe the SCOTUS should be a reflection of that. I also believe in term limits, but that would require a Constitutional amendment.
In Wisconsin, for *15 YEARS,* Democratic votes for state candidates and initiatives were in the strong majority more than 90% of the time, but we only very rarely won an election due to gerrymandered maps giving republicans a supermajority in both houses. Personally, this has affected me, because people with severe chronic pain have been determined to be criminals by our legislature and are either no no longer able to get opioid medication, because their physicians are regulated by a MAGA filled “medical board” which has the power to take their licenses to practice if they go outside the “legitimate opioid use is banned” parameter. For long standing chronic pain sufferers as I am, this criminalizing of a legitimate medical condition means that _my daily dosage of an opioid-which had managed my pain to a level that I could stand it _*_FOR 15 YEARS_*_ without one increase-had to be cut by 90%._ Just think about that for a minute. *My dogs get better pain management after surgery or injury than I do, and THIS IS INHUMANE AND DISGUSTING!!!* We are so debilitated in our daily lives-I am now in bed 95% of my life-that we can’t get together and fight it. This is fascism, vile, cruel, and completely unnecessary.
voraciousreader: I understand your anger, because I share it. Not only are we treated like criminals for having chronic pain in any medical setting, we are shamed as if we're less than because we have pain in the first place...
I hope something can be done about this. If they were the ones to suffer pain they’d be thinking differently. May God intervene and take away your pain.
A friend's husband had a slow form of pancreatic cancer but he did not get morphine until she put him in hospice the last few days of his life. I told her afterward that he could have been a hospice patient for years but too late for his years of suffering. My husband was a hospice patient in a private nursing home for three years. All his physician did was write that he might die within 6 months. He got help from Hospice techs who could monitor his care also.
Sorry, vetting , what did they think they may find in Tim Walz's past that would be anything worse than tRump. I wouldn't care if Tim picked his nose on camera, I'd still vote him and Harris.
Thanks for a discussion of an important topic. Fairly drawn districts are crucial to arrive at officials that are truly representative said district. These weirdly drawn districts must go!
The Fl legislature then made it mandatory that released prisoners must pay their court fees in order to vote. They arrested anyone who tried to vote. Mike Bloomberg then paid the court fees of that crop of released prisoners so now they can vote but the court fees is still on the books as a deterrence to voting in Fl.
How many weird voting regulations you have in America . Here all who are citizens the same rights. You need to get rid of the slavery laws before you can call your country a real democracy. Get rid of the Electoral college and the Filibuster too.
Freedom in our own bodies, Freedom in the exam room, Freedom to love, Freedom to read, Freedom from gun violence, Freedom where Noone is above the Law. We choose Freedom.
The beauty of real democracy is that everyone who ever they are wherever they are have right to vote because they are still citizens of that country and they are also human beings that make mistakes some great mistakes some not so big but they are still citizens and if you take them that right to vote then they are less than slave's and that is not democracy. Greetings from Switzerland and Croatia. 🥰🙏🥰✌️❤️🇭🇷❤️🇨🇭❤️🇺🇲❤️
Up here in the great State of Maine all of our incarcerated citizens have full voting rights. This does no harm unless you unless you think trying to include those of us who have so far have already failed to actually participate for whatever reasons in those civil and social obligations that help all of us strive to participate for a better future will in the end pay off as a collective whole. Does further exclusion from our social norms only give them extra motivation to work on being a more useful members of what you are already excluding them from? If punishment is the goal and rehabilitation is not a desired outcome at what cost to our common welfare are you willing to pay for this punishment?
I lived in Florida at the time of the amendment to restore voting rights. What they did, after it passed, was to twist what "completing the sentence" means. As far as I'm concerned, things like not restoring voting rights amounts to a partial life sentence.
Term limits should be limited but 18 years is still to long. Six years is more than enough for a decision that is unfair to masses of people. Why is 18 years being considered? takes to long for it go drop down to 9 something?
Donald Trump has had years to develop policy and he keeps talking about Hannibal Lector etc. For a man born into tremendous wealth 😅 he does an awful lot of complaining when he needs to be giving his policies to the public.
I disagree with Eric Holder on the expansion of the SCOTUS. It may work in a Democratic presidency, House and Senate but what happens when there is a vacancy during a Republican administration. We could find ourselves in the same predicament as we do now. I think term limits are a more reasonable option and that every Justice of SCOTUS go through a process every 2-3 years that would be tantamount to a re-vetting with medical and psychological testing included.
TLDW: The interview with former Attorney General Eric Holder primarily focuses on his role in vetting Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as Vice President Kamala Harris’s running mate. Holder explains that the vetting process was notably intense and fast-paced, taking only 15 days to complete. He assembled a team of 70 lawyers from his firm, Covington and Burling, to review potential candidates. Holder highlights that Governor Walz was chosen due to his strong record as Minnesota’s governor, his military career, and his chemistry with Harris. Despite the time constraints, Holder expresses confidence in the thoroughness of the vetting process and in Walz’s potential as a vice president. Holder also touches on his experiences with similar vetting processes, such as the one that led to Joe Biden becoming Barack Obama’s running mate. He reflects on the political challenges and criticisms surrounding Governor Walz, particularly regarding his support for voting rights for former felons, which Holder defends as a progressive and historically significant stance. Beyond the vetting process, Holder discusses his continued commitment to voting rights and redistricting through his work with the National Democratic Redistricting Committee. He addresses concerns about gerrymandering, the role of the Supreme Court in current political issues, and potential reforms, including expanding the court and imposing term limits on justices. Holder downplays rumors about him potentially becoming White House Chief of Staff, emphasizing his contentment with his career thus far.
Did he say 70 or 7 lawyers vetting the VP shortlist? Heck, I watched a lot of RU-vid videos on each.. I guess I vetted Walz too and I was rooting for him before she made the announcement.
She neglected to bring up how the DNC is fighting to keep RFK Jr off state ballots in spite of him having enough signatures. I guess it's OK to disenfranchise independents.
@@jveebklyn1644If this is true, I'm not OK with that. However, RFK is not a serious candidate and I'm not interested in another of those. We've got enough issues without adding more.

“We are not enemies, but friends. We must not be enemies. Though passion may have strained, it must not break our bonds of affection. The mystic chords of memory will swell when again touched, as surely they will be, by the better angels of our nature.” ― Abraham Lincoln, Great Speeches
I am suspicious of term limits. I think it would go a VERY long way just to write and enforce strict ethics guidelines. Decent salary, benefits, retirement plan, should they retire. ZERO participation in investing. ZERO income from sources besides their job. If they can't be happy on the salary and generous pension, I don't want them on the court.
Me too. Suspicious of them. I like the elegance of the arcane: lifetime appointments and even the electoral college and I can see both are being pillaged for the immorality of unearned repute.
There is a certain elegance to lifetime appointments and service, but ensuring political power to already wealthy people without the ability to remove them outside of impeachment is the way you get a court that is not representative of the people's will. You are not going to incentivize rich people with a salary. They are only incentivized by influence; term limits are a way to balance that tendency.
Guess Timmy Tampon obsession with fire and tampon wasn't a red flag? How about the stolen valor? Guess not, lying and cowardice is in the Democrat DNA.
As the election draws near, I’m considering how potential policy changes could influence market growth. Election outcomes often impact sector performance, create market instability, and call for adjustments to your investment strategy due to shifts in legislation.
Unemployment might rise and the economy could get tougher, but there are still good investment opportunities right now. My $150k portfolio grew by 70% over the last four months by investing in volatile sectors.
