Spearfishing, Sharks, Kingfish, make for an intense encounter as we get my mate Jack onto his first Kingfish on the spear. We are greeted with amazing clean water (relative to Auckland) and get stuck into some nice eating Kingfish, fighting off hungry bronze whaler sharks in the process! We gather good feed and filled the freezers for xmas.

If you know where this spot is (most people from Auckland would as it's one of the most well known fishing spots in the country), as I have said in the video, I do not recommend diving there unless you are a very experienced diver. I don't want people getting hurt. I think it is a good showcase of how Bronze whaler sharks can act in a well fished spot and people should understand what can happen in similar spots. There are much easier and safer places to dive around Auckland that produce the same quantity of fish. Good luck out there! Dive within your limits and dive safely. Cheers, Ollie.

Hey mate, I'm sure it works. Personally I don't bother as less gear the better for me in my opinion, less stuff to get tangled etc. I like to keep it as simple as possible. Also we mainly only deal with Bronze whalers here so not a big issue. If I were in another country like Aussie or somewhere with plenty of whites/tigers/bulls then I might change my stance.

Hey mate I don’t like the idea of more stuff strapped to my body which could get tangled up etc. The more simple the setup the safer. Probably more risk of getting an extra tangle, stuck under water than having trouble with a shark (just my opinion)

They were all well legal. Most around the 9-10kg mark and around 90-100cm. Not the biggest Kingfish at this spot but good eating size, beautiful

Hey mate either smoke them or use them as burley for snapper. Not a whole lot of meat on them if fillet correctly

Try soup. Just boil a head for 40 minutes, drain the water, put whole onion into it and potatoes, cook for 10min, put salt and bay leaves, cook until potatoes ready and soup done.

Yeah me too! Well I've actually seen one about 15m away while surfing in South Africa but not while spearing. When are you coming over? Won't have any issues getting onto a kingi they are all over in summer
