My ideal community is one in which everyone recognizes that that we are each 100% responsible for our own experience. And we will all get triggered and project and be human and the community becomes a place to help each other process and figure these things out. And, second, everyone agrees to clean up after themselves 😜

Hello friends, I lived in some comunities during one year when I was a nómad, but after that time, being patience and more patience, I became very tired psicolgicaly and emotionaly, then I came back to the city living and working alone and started a love relationship but after 6 months always in patience and more patience with her triggers, I become very tired also. And now I am alone again but in a permantly state of inner peace and calm.

Very true and real tips. It really is a individual shadow work to understanding oneself, understanding/respecting others and how to relate with them... But i also think its important to bring that to the land and the local community around you so that one isnt just living on a island with a other people. Its all must be connected on a micro and macro scale.

Great video guys, thanks. It brought back memories of my one and only stay at a community. I was so full of hope before going there but I arrived to find the place in meltdown ~ huge conflict between the leaders. It was only the other workawayers that made it a good memorable experience. I still believe in community life but if I try again, I will reserve my expectations.

@@NewEarthlings There is a US commune that has accepted members harassing one another for decades. I've even heard a report of physical intimidation. Yet it makes money and has a steady stream of visitors year after year. It has failed to honor it's commitment to non-violence, in a way. Always ask a place you visit what their rate of turnover is.

Great video. I am a 35 year old man who had a little experience of living in a community in my country (Brazil). The main challenge in my opinion can be the daily human coexistence and also to always keep yourself motivated in individual and group activities. It's certainly not for everyone.

This is a really amazing video. You guys seem like great people. I'm very tired of living and working in such individualised alienating capitalist conditions, so I tried searching for alternative ways to live and stumbled across this video. I would love to join a community like this. I saw another comment where you said you're looking to set up another community so I'm going to do some more research and see where in the world you are! One question I do have is, do you ever reassess the principles of your community as a group, to try to make improvements? Or are you very strict with sticking to the original ideas?

You said that "this is not the community for you" regarding someone who doesn't want to have connection with others on a daily basis. So you find those who have a different need for connection/privacy are maybe a threat to your community? Everyone in your community is expected to be very extroverted? Do you feel introverts aren't loving and kind? Or maybe just not as loving, kind, creative, resourceful, valuable...as you feel extroverts are? I guess I'm just trying to understand why you wouldn't welcome introverts into your community.
@NewEarthlings
@NewEarthlings 3 года назад
The community space at that time in Berlin didn't allow big amounts of privacy, there where contrary needs, for majority we needed more connection and to contribute to the collective awakening. And that requires hosting events at our place, and because the place was not big enough. Our friends was uncomfortable. If the community would own a bigger house or a bigger land that will open space for all needs. It's important to acknowledge limitations regarding resources also so we are not playing lose lose game. There is nothing wrong with being introvert. We welcome everyone :) I hope that made it clear. Much love. Ram

@byronbrigden

Also why does it mean that just because someone feels fulfilled and would only like to socialise every few days that it wouldn’t not be the community for them? That’s not very welcoming and actually the complete opposite of what you’re preaching! You’re projecting you’re needs of wanting to be around people everyday on someone that doesn’t need that and saying they’re not welcome because of it! Community is supposed to be inclusive of everyone! If one person doesn’t feel like being social then you should accept that as it’s natural, an you can find someone else to socialise with! Not conclude that this means this isn’t the community for you just because they wanted some peace and quality time alone.
@NewEarthlings
@NewEarthlings Год назад
It seems you miss understand the hole point. We didn't say this person is not welcome in community, we said we are not compatible to live together because our community is about expansion and meeting new people. We are not making people wrong for needing some peace and quality time alone. we our-self need that. but in that case we mention our friends want us to stop doing the activity that our community was based around It's not healthy to change the fundamental of the community if a member has a different needs. It's better for them to find something that they can be happy with without creating fractions . It seems that you have a projection of what community should be like, and that's fine you can look for a community that fulfill this needs for you. we will be happy for you :)

But also have very clear personal boundaries and don't accept any extreme behavior. I was in a spiritual community where an older guy loved to hug and kiss the younger woman. He was clearly abusing and overstepping their boundaries in the name of love & light. It was ego and lower urges driving him, taking advantage of vulnerable girls with no strong boundaries. I also met some very unstable people that loved to talk and share their problems with me and then other times they completely ignored me as we had never spoken. It can really affect you in a negative way if people around are too unstable and you don't feel safe.

As a communalist of 44+ years myself, I loved this. One subtle point of pushback, or maybe just a point I'd like to hear more on, is the idea that an individual must become self-realized before being a member of the community. I tend to see this as a dance back and forth... a needy individual is nurtured by the community, then in turn (if s/he finds nurturing) is able to nurture the community as a whole. This ends up not being an either / or but a both / and. And then of course there are those times this simple does not work, for various reasons... community ends up being not for everyone for sure! Thanks for this good thinking / heart thinking.

Hello and thank you. I am interested in the idea of an intentional community. But i am over 50 and disabled with very low income. I hope to find an intentional community run by and for people with disabilities. I do NOT mean a institution. I mean a place that is planned out, by consensus, by the residents for mutual aid. Something like a senior community where younger seniors would do errands to help older seniors. Affordable housing with friends who help each other. No creepy, unnecessary restrictions for being disabled.

I‘m a „little“ late, but your last point of advice confuses me. To paraphrase: Direct and immediate communication, say what you feel and need in a non-violent way. But when someone says something to me or does something that upsets me, I rarely can immediately tell what‘s going on. I usually can’t even tell that it upsets me. When something like that happens I usually get a little bit of distance between me and the other person, calm down and think about what happend, what I didn’t like about it and maybe think of ways to avoid that in the future. This can take several hours or even days (also depends on how often I see said person). During that time I will distance myself from the person, telling them that I need space in a polite, neutral way, but will still work with them if required. After that I will approach the person and, as you said, directly and non-vionlently communicate whatever I need to in that moment. But I really can’t do that immediately. Does that mean I‘m not suited for a community?
@NewEarthlings
@NewEarthlings 2 года назад
Hey Ageamiu, thank you for sharing your process and experience. Actually what you are doing is really great and this is what is needed in community "self reflection asap" What we meant is not to be avoidant and deal with the trigger immediately and share it with the other side as soon as you can. From what you shared you might have enmeshment trauma where it's difficult to recognize what's happening in you regarding others in the moment. We both had that and it gets much better with doing inner work. If you like to start or deepen your healing experience feel free to reach out to one of us and we would help you. Much love 💓

@@NewEarthlings Thank you for your kind words! Yes, I definitely have quite a bit of trauma, however I‘ve never heard of the term „enmeshment trauma“. I‘ll check that out! I do dissociate a lot and flee from reality, which I‘m working on right now (quite a challenge if I‘m being honest). I was just asking if my current conflict-resolving process is okay, so just to know if I need to work that. It really comforting to know that, with a bit of work, I could join an IC. My talents, personality, and skill-set aren’t really suitable for capitalism, they are however, I believe, really useful for an IC. Though I definitely need to work on myself. Much love to you too!

@@TooSickToDressVictorian fir what it’s worth, your process sounds pretty healthy to me. Different people process information and emotions differently and some need more time. One thing i see sometimes is the pressure,even if its subtle, to enforce values (or at least the leadership understanding of it) on everybody. Also the pressure,again sometimes subtle, to partake in all group activities. You see that often,specially in communities with a religious or spiritual strong orientation.
@NewEarthlings

I think the values should be clear from the beginning and those who join agree fully and share those values. Then there is no need to impose. If there is a need to impose values then there is a serious incompatibility. Everyone should be choosing the values because they believe in it.

I would like you to share your insights on a few things. How do you meet the needs of all with regard to noise levels? Do you find that there is little respect for silence in this world? Do you offer a place to be for those who need silence to meditate, do art, yoga, read, study...and so on. Also, do you ever deal with someone attempting to discredit someone's need, treating someone else's need as unwarranted, silly, ridiculous? What do you say to that person? Also, what are the rules about children running and shouting inside? Thank you.
@NewEarthlings
@NewEarthlings 3 года назад
I think it's important to consider those things before living together. For example, if there are children, there's bound to be noise. Members need to be clear what their needs and boundaries are and communicate them. If someone consistently discredits other's needs, they are not suitable for living in a community and should do lots of inner work before

This is an interesting and informative video on commune living. Emotional support is something I may not have thought about before. One thing I kept thinking watching, maybe bc I've lived with so many ppl throughout my life and worked many farms, is this should already be understood if you've ever had roomates or partners you're not compatible with. Other than that I enjoyed the video and think its a great resource for those looking at this option

Cleaning up after oneself is an obvious expectation in communal spaces. It's okay to have different ideas about cleanliness in one's own space. Where space is shared by others, basic adulting skills, such as cleaning up after oneself, should be applied. No one should be expected to clean up another person's mess. This is both an unfair and unspoken expectation. In my extensive experience of living with others, asking someone to clean up after themselves leads to resistance and hostility more than cooperation. Showing appreciation is also a basic skill. Wantibg to be apprecuated is not a special need, but tends to be treated as one when the larger group is either uninterested or doesn't know how to show gratitude. Everyone is deserving of it. In fact, gratitude is a show of inclusiveness and social maturity. It is rare where a person can ask for appreciation or a show of gratitude without being attacked or mocked by the whole. In communal settings, large or small, a natural show of gratitude goes a very long way and shouldn't be virwed as special treatment or a special need..
@NewEarthlings
@NewEarthlings Год назад
We do still think that it can be valuable to communicate expectations about cleaning, because people have also different standards. We cannot expect that everyone will automatically match our ceaning standards. However often people are open to put more effort if it is expressed. Of course appreciation is a beautiful thing! But it can also be a tricky shadow when someone starts giving, not from a place of generosity, but from a place of expecting to be seen and appreciated. This comes with strings attached and can lead to resentment.

Sorry but I completely disagree that if someone triggers you by doing something stupid and acting like an idiot that this is something you need to look inside yourself to resolve. You should definitely and absolutely tell them and make them aware of this issue because in a community everyone’s feelings should be considered and unfortunately we’re not perfect so sometimes people do stupid things including to each other and the only way move forward positively and correctly is to address the issue with the person or people that caused it not just to look within yourself especially as they’re probably unaware of how they’re acting or maybe they don’t care. This is reality and it doesn’t need to be so deep and introspective! It can definitely be as simple as this. When you try to over complicate problems and make everything introspective you can easy overcomplicate very simple things and cause yourself more stress.
@NewEarthlings
@NewEarthlings Год назад
It's always important to look at the pain within and it be the priority and that doesn't at all undermine setting boundaries with idiots. both are important. What we refereed to is to look where this pain is originated, and healing, using the external trigger to do the healing work that it's so important for healthy living in a community, and in many cases the expression of healing is to set boundaries

The numbers are more along the lines of 97% fail. The only way a commune can truly survive is by implementing the following: 1. Vet all those who come in, a commune must consist of like minded people with the same goals. Communes that share the same beliefs (mainly religious ones) tend to last for decades. When you pack a bunch of people into an area with conflicting views (religious, political, etc) it is doomed to fail. 2. Only permit those with reliable work history and ethics to join. A commune is like a clock, all parts must put in equal efforts to function properly, your only as strong as your weakest link. Lazy people hinder progress and become a drain on resources. 3. Access to water, power (whether it solar, wind, etc) and waste disposal, food production. If you can't sustain the communities needs it will fail. 4. Annual income, you must have a way to make money to pay for property tax, medical needs, etc. I own and operate my own private commune 84 residents, since 2006. I'm currently starting a 2nd commune using opod tube housing as residential homes. That commune will have a YT channel devoted to it and will be based on the 1st commune.

@@latitudeselongitudes1932 I agree, it doesn't have to be a religious community it just has to be a community where all members are of one mind set (the reason why religious communes are so successful is they all have the same mindset). @@latitudeselongitudes1932 Indeed, yet with community's of multiple personality types they have a small margin of success (take the hippie communes, there are only two such communes today that I'm aware of that still exist (New Zealand has one and Canada). This is a really good video, for every day life, not just in some sort of community group. I have been getting triggered a lot myself lately, and also recognise a lot of what you have described in others too. One big one is I find a lot of people have unspoken expectations, and get really sulky and difficult if you fail to meet them, yet they refuse to tell you what they are. I had some friends like that, they always seemed annoyed with me but would always refuse to say why and instead would deny being annoyed which felt like gaslighting to me. It became very draining and miserable so I left the friendship group. I really like how you've framed this in a way that doesn't make anyone necessarily 'bad' or 'wrong,' it's just about different people's needs and the importance of expressing those, and moving to be around more like minded people if you find yourself in groups where the needs of others conflict too much with your own needs.
