I have always been intrigued with the mini albums but never had the desire to make one until I watched your mini school album. I loved it, and your tutorials are excellent.
I have a tip for those that don't use wet adhesive and prefer to use score tape. If you put a piece down and you find you need to remove it, the most careful way to do that without ruining your paper and still using the adhesive that is on there all you have to do is heat it up a bit with your heat gun and slowly pull it off and then reattach. I hate waste of paper and of the adhesive, so I find that that works wonderfully. I think your tutorial was good. Do you have a video on how you bind the pages. I just love your book. **Addition: I found it on your romance part 1. Thank you for doing this lovely tutorial
I cannot thank you enough for this tutorial. I am new to mini albums so I am learning all I can. This tutorial was exactly what I was looking for. Headed to the craft room now to start a mini album using these pages.
Love your tutorials; I am going to use your pocket pages for the 9 albums I have to make for next Christmas grand-nieces' gifts. This variety of pages just suits me, very interactive and so much room for more techniques: belly bands, waterfalls (I like the cascade ones I have seen on other tutorials), sliders and much more. THANKS THANKS THANKS!!! :-)
I think you did a good job, the instructions were very clear and easy to follow. I like that there are not alot of measurements and your using all the paper. I am a very frugal crafter myself. I'm going to give it a try. Thanks for sharing.
Hello Scrapbook Maven! Just wanted to let you know that I attempted this album and was really pleased the way it turned out! It was my second mini album and I want to thank you for sharing and making such a great and easy tutorial to follow! 😊
Thank YOU so much! I have been looking for an easier way to do these flip pages and pockets from the way others have described them, I can relate to how you described and shown how to do it. Now i can finally make my friend her scrapbook/journal.
Fantastic tutorial! Your instructions are very clear. Can't wait to give this a try. I may even try to size it down to 4x4 mini. Thank you for sharing!
Love page four flap. I've done or seen your other pages done before but that is the first I've seen setting your flaps up like that. Can't wait to try it in my albums. Great job! Tfs
Great tutorial. My mom just passed away two and half months ago. She was a fantastic cook and family meals were always so important. We (my sisters and Dad) have her handwritten favorite recipes. We also have an old bread box full of old recipes going back to 1900's from grandmothers, great grandmothers and aunts. Many of the pages are worn and brittle so this will be a great way to archive them We are recreating 4 books including many of the recipes and I am photo copying the old original recipes before they are ruined and also old pictures in some of the cookbooks. No copyright infringement but the most awesome retro pics to include these keepsakes. All the sisters will get one. It might take me some time, I have RA but the tools today make this a labor of love. Thank you for great instructions.
Thank you so much for this tutorial. Making my first album and between this and your one on the cover I think I can do this. Don't have score board yet so am scoring with my bone folder and ruler. it works but I just have to be careful when folding the lines. Lol stayed up till 4am to finish the cover and spine. I never new scrapbooking was so creative and fun till I watched your work. Saving for the Sizzix Big Shot Plus now 😍 You can spend a fortune on this hobby 😵 Thanks again love your work.
+Jami Womack Hi Jami! Thanks so much for watching my videos. I'm so glad they helped you! You sure can spend a lot, so little by little I am growing my crafty stash :) You will have fun with your Big Shot once you get it- it's a scrapbook must ;)
I think you're wrong about that...tutorials are definitely your strong point. Hehe. I really loved it and made my pages right along with you. I made a few adjustments (that's what I'm calling my mistakes these days) I'll share it with you when I'm done. Thanks so much for a great design!
Candi Zimmerman Hello Candi! This is Danielle and I hope you enjoyed this Pocket Page Tutorial as well as whatever you may have watched on Kona's channel :)
I really like this tutorial! It is so well explained and for someone like me that's a big deal ha ha ha. I'm doing this one for sure and it is going in my favorites. Tfs, DD
your tutorials are wonderful. I have learned so much from you. thank you for sharing your passion. I am using your pages in a chinch scrapbook, I just add a double edge to it so it will not tear in the cinch, so far so good. again thank you
Wow! Been looking for a tutorial for pocket pages like this. Im going to use 8.5x11in paper, so i will have to change the measurements for scoring. Other than that, thanks for sharing the general concept! :D
Hi, I did it! A 4x4 version. My pages followed yours except a couple might be a bit backwards. I referenced your video on my blog and in the notes of my video. Hugs Nan. Thanks for inspiring me!
Thank you for the link. I checked it out and left a comment. You did a fantastic job! Thank you for thinking about me and letting me admire your work :)
thank you for your tutorial. It was a little difficult to cut and fold at first because I couldn't see the bottom of the screen when you were cutting... but paying more attention helped. Thanks again!!
Beautiful! Very well explained thank you. I’d like to make this using rings instead of a binder style. Do you have a tutorial showing the pages for rings on the sides? Great work! Thank you for sharing.
Thank you so much for this tutorial!!! It helped me so much and you were great at explaining things. The first one took me 5 tries...lol...but that's because I was trying to make one for an existing mini T album thingie that Dawn helped me with yesterday and I added the pocket but used different measurements. But I finally figured it out for a 2.5 X 3.5 all on my own!!! I'm so bad at this!!! o_O So thanks again and your mini that you already made looks beautiful!! And I love the Romance Novel papers. Thanks again!! ((Hugs))
+vegasjill21 That's awesome! I'm glad I helped and you stuck with it. I appreciate you leaving a comment and wish you the best of luck in your next project :)
Hello, Maven, how are you? I loved the explanation of each interactive page !!! This mini album was very beautiful !!! Deoration and impeccable finish !!! Thanks for sharing, Kisses from Brazil !!! :)
I love your album. You do a great job on the tutorial. Very well done, clean and to the point. No hunting for your scissors etc lol. Do you have a album tutorial for a 6x6 using rings as the binding? Thank you for sharing this is one of the BEST tutorials I have seen.
Hello Lulu! Thank you! I don't have a specific video for using rings, but if you go to the end of the following video it should show a way to use a similar page style with a ring binding: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-47f_URQA8hY.html It has been a while since I made it, but I think it may be what you are looking for. :0)
Thank you for sharing the method ! You've shown it very nicely making me believe that I too can do it .. Haha By the way how thick should the card stock of the base of pages be ?
I love your albums and think your 12x12 pocket pages are great! I'd love to make an album with these 6x6 finished pages but I'm not sure how big to cut my chipboard and spine. Do you have dimensions or tips to figure out how much larger the cover should be from the base pages? Thanks for sharing!
HI Julie! I like to make my binding first and see what the finished size is. That helps to figure out the spine's width. If I use a 3/8ths spacing, I can get away with a 2" spine usually. It totally depends on how dimensional your embellishments are, as well. For the front and back covers, you can make them the same size as your pages. I like mine to be a bit bigger. I like everything to be enclosed withing the dimensions of the covers usually, so I 1/4 larger on each side: 6 1/4 wide by 6 1/2 high. If I make tabs for my pages, I take into account how far they stick out and increase my dimensions accordingly. Hope that helps a bit. In the beginning, when I wasn't quite sure, I would save my cover for last and make all my pages and tags, attach them to the binding and then measure from there :)
Thanks, Leda! In the tutorial I used the regular 12x12 sheets in the value packs at joanns and michaels. Maybe 60#. I have since found 80# core-dinations cardstock and its night and day thicker/sturdier. I don't know where it can be found, so I sell it in my store so I always have some :) scrapbookmaven.com/product-category/binders/
Hi, when making the very first pocket page you used 6x6 1/4. I'm guessing these are the page sizes. What if my page sizes are 8x8? How would I created that? Would I begin with the 1/4 and then 8, rotate 90 degrees and score at 8 1/4 then cut off the excess?
Susan M. Simmons Hi! I used the binding in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-D4FGd39R55A.html I no longer like to use tyvek as I use an 80lb cardstock and find that it holds nicely.
Hi! The 3rd page is the same as the base page. The only difference is the addition of a flap that opens down. I showed it in cream cardstock because I had it on hand and it was easy to see. It is an extra piece of cardstock, from a new piece of 12x12. For the pocket under the flap for my Eerie Album, I just used the design paper. If you have a specific question, I'll try to answer more specifically :)
Really love this tutorial, I'm doing it for Christmas How many 12x12 pieces of cardstock did you use in total for all of the pages? Thank you :) Hello from Spain!
Hello! I used 1 card stock sheet for each page, so for a 4 page album you would need 4 cardstock sheets plus another sheet to cut for the photo mats. And I used another for any pockets I want to add or extra flaps. Hope that helps!
Hi, Julie! I use round disk slice 8 x 1 mm magnets from eBay. I hide them between the base paper and the design paper using wet adhesive usually as that is what I primarily use. Sometimes I do stick it down with scor tape without removing the backing if I want to put the magnets in place so as not to forget in the process of figuring out what paper to use. HTH!
Hi! Thanks. This video is my favorite binding method: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-D4FGd39R55A.html I don't use the tyvek much anymore, though. And, I go over attaching the pages very briefly. In this video I share another way to do the binding: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lLGEZ-o6vpk.html This third video has me adhering the pages onto the binding at 56:50 in more detail: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9_Dpn-A8LlI.html HTH!
Mt. SAC EAGLE HI! It's the Tim Holtz Alterations Brackets Die. It is my all time favorite edge die to use in my minis. It will definitely step up you mini album look!
Iam Scrappy Hi again! I use Aleene quick dry adhesive to adhere my papers because I like how it does create a stiff and sturdy page. The only drawback is that it can cause warping especially if you use too much glue. To minimize this I like to put my pages under something heavy throughout the creating process for it to dry flat. So, there's definitely a trade-off you have to decide which option is best for which project.
+Larissa Laform There are tons of tutorials on how to bind, so I felt silly repeating. This is a good tutorial based on Kathy Orta's binding: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-W1A2doGIuyk.html Kathy Orta is amazing and most everyone uses her binding method.
Marianne Petralia I like to use Core'dinations 80lb. cardstock for album pages: scrapbookmaven.com/?s=cardstock+80&post_type=product When in a pinch, I go to Michaels/Joanns and buy their cardstock, it's 60lb, so not as nice
when I used this for Mini Romance Album the pages were different please tell me how I do this especially the second page were you went across when opening. I have been at this for two weeks on and off due to frustration. Please help I will not give up
Geraldine Ciotti Hi Geraldine, I'm sorry this has been frustrating for you. I will do my best to help. For the Romance pages I just rotated the page the page 90 degrees to the left and flipped it upside down. This makes the opening which WAS the pocket opening for the Eerie album now the binding opening for the Romance album. Now your page flaps should flip down and to the left on the front-side of the page instead of to the left and up on the backside of the page. It is the same page constructed the same just turned and flipped so that the interaction is on the front when attached to your binding. Once that is established, for the second page- you are removing/cutting off the flap that flips down on the romance page (on the Eerie page it flips out to the left). On the section that is removed, create a hinge by scoring at about 1/4"- this hinge you attach to the left side of you front page to create the flap that fold out to the right. Keep in mind that you will rotate and flip your page once you are done re-attaching your other flap. Same construction as the Eerie page starting at about 11:05 in the video, just once you construct the page in the tutorial, you rotate it and flip it for the Romance page and the flaps opening up and down will now open across. If you need further clarification, please let me know and be super specific so I can be more helpful! HTH!
Sorry it was confusing for you. For the third page, you will make the page exactly as you did on the first page. The only difference is that you will cut another piece of cardstock to whatever dimensions you want your flap to be, adding a bit to score and fold a mini flap to attach at the bottom front of your base pocket page. My flap is in ivory to show that it is from a separate piece of cardstock and not part of your base page until you attach it. I also added a pocket to my original album by gluing a piece of cardstock (about 6" by 2") on three side (bottom and sides) to the front of the base page. That was not gone over in this tutorial.
