This video just yanked me out of the life crisis I’ve been dealing with for 3 months. Thank you for becoming a trailblazer and being one of the first RU-vidrs to dive into the specifics of this career path. Cheers!
I studied interior design, I designed living and office quarters for off shore oil drilling platforms and drill ships . Had I not had some drastic life changes I would have continued on this path . Ship builders that build every kind of ship, from yachts , cruise ships, or commercial transport ships, are all possible design opportunities. One could design the interiors for travel homes , or even private jets . There is no end to it. Any space people live in , work in or use which could also be outdoor spaces.
@@nicoleblu5764 hello Nicole. Please do you mind if i know which school you attending for interior design and the cost? My Facebook ( Tiks forreal) will be waiting please
One thing I love so much about most of these projects is how almost all of these architects and clients are so passionate about incorporating is so haven't encountered many that can do that until I discovered designers from Snugverse that are really profound in thinking that way.
Thank you so much for posting about Interior Design. I currently am a senior in high school and looking to go to college with Interior Design as my Major. Your channel has given me hope for my future and helped me get further excited. I'll be sure to show my family your videos when they doubt my decision.
Thank you for this upload, I needed this. I’m in my second year ba interior design in uk. Think the work is getting on top of me and starting to feel intimidated by this profession. Like all degrees it touches on aspects of the profession but when you are nearing the end you feel immense pressure to get your foot in the door. And it seems impossible at the moment. But it’s been because I have been solely focused on applying to firms. Anyway thumbs up for the upload 👍🏾.
I've been binge-watching your videos, and I love love love them! They're all insightful, not to mention your personality shines! I'm looking to study and start a career in interior design, thanks to your videos I'm all the more excited for what's in store for me out there ❤️
I’m so happy you made this video because I’m starting school this fall to become an exhibit designer for trade shows!!! It’s a career path with a lot less written about it, so it’s good to hear about it from you.
That's awesome! And you're right there's not that much info about it online. It's really word of mouth from people already doing it or who know someone who did
I just found your videos and love it! I’m considering going back to school to get a certification or degree in this. Are those positions you can get with existing interior designer businesses or more like freelance work?
Hi Amanda, thanks for watching! And both! You can find jobs like these with interior design firms that do specific work or you can freelance. You might to intern or do an apprenticeship with a firm first to get some footing and go off on your own if you want to freelance.
I went to school for something simple in the medical field. For me working in the medical field is just toxic! As a creative person in my soul... in my kidneys...I need my career to support who I am...I dabble in a lot of creative things...cooking and presentation ...i love decorating... i like staging but i want to be more than a decorator...
U r really doing a good thing, sharing help to choose people their dream job..... But I really want to know how to start studying interior design in US as being a foreigner like from India plzzz let me know, this is my dream to become a interior designer 😭😭😭😭 !!!!
If you go to my website I have a free download of the top 10 schools for interior design. It's a good place to start looking at schools. www.sandysaintilus.com/free-downloads
It would would be the same process as becoming an interior designer, hunn. Some people choose to go to school for interior design/decorating and some decide to figure it out on their own. If you do decide to go to school then you just wouldn't be so stressed about going to an accredited school.
So happy I found your channel! I’ve always been very interested in doing something in interior design, but just so confused as to how to start and what to do! Any advice for a young person wanting to make the first step but unsure of how
Hi Kolby! It can be very intimidating trying to get into the industry I totally get it. Hmmm...have you tried looking up design events like conferences or lunch and learns or showhouses? These things are often hosted by magazines and national design clubs and they always need volunteers
hi I want to study interior design I just want to know witch subject are going to help me in the long run and I need to choose between art and EGD witch would you recommend?
Can you make a video on how to get a designer license and can you like search for “bodies” in Europe bc so far I found that just US and Canada has which I don’t believe
Honestly it depends. A lot of jobs start at $40K but there are others that are more and you can eventually work your way up. But there are also designers with 6 figure businesses.
They don't really have decorating classes in school but you can def learn decorating on your own with online classes from sites like Domestika: www.domestika.org/en/courses/area/40-interior-design?atag=9fcb25&
Is this after graduating with an associates degree? or BA? Is it worth getting your BA? im suppose to graduate with an associates degree in 2023 but im not really sure what to do after?
When I made this I was thinking of a BA, but there are people with these kinds of jobs that don't have degrees, just experience and dedication. Being a design assistant is great way to get started in design. Have you considered that?
There are actors guild and unions in various cities that can help with that or you can research designers in your city that do set design and potentially try and intern with them.
You cannot really design commercial design anymore unless you get your NCIDQ certificate and you cannot get NCIDQ without an education from a CIDA accredited institute. Commercial is very restrictive because of code. This is like this in all state. NCIDQ is lobbying this in every state. Florida made sure to put this in their law. you can get fine or even jail time in most states for practicing commercial design without your NCIDQ certification or without a four year degree. You are not even allow to be an apprentice to a actual designers. Actually they will not hire you because there is a lot of liabilities in commercial and hospitality design. You can go to prison if you do not understand code and material which is require and why they are require. If people get sick a lot from a particular hospital there will be investigation done including the design aspect of the hospital. If you designing public spaces codes becomes extremely tough because of all the things that can go wrong. You have to think about occupants and circulations. with all this you have to understand finished and structural material as well. I wish we did pretty design. a CIDA Interior Design institution will never teach how do to pretty design. The creative part of design is self driven. They only teach you the safety part of design and that is including, lighting, structure, codes, temperature control, material used, specification, and ergonomics, many others. pretty is the least of their worry.
Thank you for making this video! Really helpful, can’t wait for you to make more :) I’m really interested in majoring in Interior Design and the videos you make, make it so much easier for me to get an idea of what I’m going to be learning.
I'm so happy you find my videos helpful! I had no idea what school was going to be like and I started my channel to give others an idea of what to expect :)
Thank you for solidifying my choice to move towards getting this degree! The options are endless and would allow me to flow between different projects and still be happy. I know it! You are amazing!!
Thanks a lot 🥺❤️ I actually had second thoughts on interior designing I owe you ❤️🥺😭🥺❤️🥺thanks 💘 And when you said apple car in 2020 (look at this year 😂)
I'm currently on my last year of high school and this is one of my 2 career choices. You've helped me so much expanding my knowledge and encouraging me about interior design. Awesome videos! thank u Sandy! ❣💫
I got a job right after graduation in a showroom specializing in cabinets and countertops. With slight sales in flooring, tile, sinks, faucets and hardware. Was there 4 years and left to go to a granite, quartz, marble and tile wholesaler. But missing the design aspect of designing cabinet layouts and currently looking :). Great video !!!
Thank you for making this video. you have helped me a lot. I am thinking about being a Set Designer as I have over 20 years experience in Acting on Screen. And Theatre. this would give me another opportunity to work in different capacity in the Film And TV Industry/ Theatre Industry. I also like the option of Realestate Designer. Thank you for helping me before I enrol in Certificate 4 Interior Design And Decoration. You have been very resourceful, helpful and full of good advice
Hi my name is sharmin. Last year I started my college in Newyork. Before pandemic I choose nursing but now the has been changed. Also, I likes interior design. My question can I start my career interior design? If yes, which school or college good for interior design? Pls help me
It's never too late to start your career in design if it's want makes you happy. Here's a list of schools you may want to check out: www.di-rankings.com/most-admired-schools-interior-design/
Hey I’m new here and I want to study that career do you know what I have to know for apply and what about when you finish the career the school help you find a job ?
Some schools do help you secure a job but I don't recommend relying on schools to help you with this. It's better to get internships and make your own connections with designers in your community.
I really wanna do set or exhibition design, I'm already in my final year but I just feel so hopeless and helpless because I love always ran away from doing anything extra because interior design wasn't what I wanted to go for, it was what my parents wanted. Because of this I didn't do much internship or anything for extra credit. I finally had the opportunity to join our university's drama club as a set designer but then covid happened and we were online for a whole year and a half. I don't think there's gonna be enough time in my final year to join clubs. I'm not great with softwares too, so I'm really panicking about getting a job at this point becauseI have less than a year to actually step up :(
I worked in PR for about a year and a half before making the switch. The hardest part for me was just making the commitment. I went back and forth about it for a while but eventually I had to make the jump even if there wasn't a safety net to catch me. It's scary but so worth the it! Start by finding out about the design scene in your area. Where I was it wasn't robust so I moved to a city with a design hub. But you don't have to move to start getting experience if you don't want to.
@@SandySaintilus thank you for your response. I'm definitely going to look into it because I want to decorate homes for sure and possibly renovate as well.
Thank you! I would love to meet you and ask some questions, I am getting the run arounds from people not being honest about what and where to start with interior designing and it is my passion, i’m just looking for the right direction to go in, hope to speak with you soon! Have a great day !!!!!!👋🏾🤩
I always recommend first decidng if you want to go to school or just get hands-on experience in the field. If you want to go to school then research schools in your area. If you want hands-on experience then start by learning skills that designers and design firms can use. For example, take an online course for Sketch-up or Revit or CAD.
Your videos have helped me soooo much. I didn't know that it was this hard to find information online about interior design and the different avenues. Thank you for sharing ❤️
I don't know if you'll ever see this comment, but I want to follow interior design so much! But my parents say that nobody wants a interior designer this days, is it worthy following interior design?
@@SandySaintilus I really like it, but my parents don't allow me to follow the area I want.. I don't know how to explain but, here in Portugal, when you enter 10th grade, you need to pick an area, the best one to interior design is arts, but my parents don't allow me, because the school it's far..
My next video is going to be on design organizations and I'll be specifically mentioning a black design organization. For more on black designers check out the Black Interior Designers Network website.
Thank you so so much. This has helped inspire my future goal. Im looked forward to seeing the rest of your videos and learn more about honestly the first career path that i can see myself being happy in. I watched 2 videos so far and that alone has motivated me, something i have been lacking in my high school life. Again thank you so much.
Yes, please create an internship video! Also interested to hear about how you transitioned from one career to another. Where your interest in interior design came from, things like that.
Firstly, I appreciate your videoes, they're very helpful and reassuring I was considering taking an intro to Interior Design course in the Fall. I'm a bit intimidated because I honestly don't want to be a designer but I want to know what it's about. Are intro courses heavily skewered toward drafting and AutoCad or is it more from a textbook learning Thank you for any input I appreciate your time.
@@SandySaintilus Thank you for taking the time to respond. Today was the first day of priority registration, I signed u for an intro course. We'll see how it goes in the Fall.
