Hello Sarah! So I want to ask you if you recommend studying in Yorkville? On the other hand, how much demand is there in Canada regarding interior design? Do you have continuous work with this career or is it for projects with seasons without work perhaps? I'm undecided whether to study interior design or digital marketing...
@edr3567
@edr3567 10 месяцев назад
I am currently a student from Yorkville University and I would only recommend this school if you're studying online. The reasons why are that they have so many intakes (4) that on-campus students barely have on-campus classes. Also the program lasts only 3 years if you take 5 courses per term and take no term off these 3 years (a term in this university lasts 3 months). That being said, you only have 8 weeks off school scattered through the year (1 week off between terms and 1 week off during midterms). Therefore, if you take 4 terms off throughout the program it'll take you 4 years to conclude. An important thing is that although you barely have on-campus courses available, the best professors and learning experience are from the on-campus courses. The professors are exceptional (most of them) and they all work at other big universities as well. The professors really sit down with you to work where you can improve while being extremely professional and emphatic. In general the team that Yorkville has is very good, their real fault is not really offering on-campus course meanwhile advertising it. This is a problem because students move to Toronto to start university only to find out 1 course is on-campus and the rest is online.
@edr3567
@edr3567 10 месяцев назад
Talking about the campus in Ontario... it sucks! For interior design students it is located at 2000 Steeles Avenue West - Concord, ON, L4K 4N1, and I can assure you that a 30min bus ride to Finch Station -Line 1- can easily take 1h30min in rush hours because there is no subway station nearby (only to the east side, Pioneer Village - Line 1). Then you can finally reach the subway (it takes me 20 min). Another campus issue is that there is only 1 restaurant nearby, and the campus only offer vending machines. So due to these reasons having a vehicle would be the best option. To conclude, the campus itself is very small, exactly what you see on google maps, only half of it is from Yorkville, so don't count with any sports on campus or things to do nearby. In regards to the tuition, it is the most suitable Interior Design school for International students, and a complete joke for domestic. They basically charge CAD$1050 (it will increase this fall on) per course for domestic students, and there are 52 courses we must take throughout the program, you can double check on this link www.yorkvilleu.ca/programs/bachelor-of-interior-design-online/ . The price is the same for online or on-campus since they are mainly online. The tuition for international students for the same program is the same as domestic per course but another CAD$1000 fee for each term (I'm almost certain, but I'll double check it). Just make sure to remember Yorkville has 4 terms a years. Many software used the school do not cover so you have to pay out of you own pocket. So comparing all the facts for international students it is one of the most affordable options, but for domestic, please jump right out (unless your province really don't have an ID program). I forgot to mention there is no support when it comes to internships, in this school you do you. What I can say is that they have someone that helps you developing a resume (never used it, so I cant say much). A cool thing they have is peer support, where students with exceptional GPAs can teach you for free (1 class per week - each course), and these students get paid. Note that they are not always hiring and you have to have an A GPA and not a high grade in that specific course. Also, for students think about getting into YU and then transferring credits, since YU is a private school many universities and colleges deny transferring credits, even though it is accredited by CIDA. The only school at GTA (Great Toronto Area) I have seen accept credits from YU is Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson). I can speak for other students that Sheridan does not accept it! By the way, SHERIDAN COLLEGE offers both HONOURS BACHELOR OF INTERIOR DESIGN and Interior Decorating Diploma. Sheridan has an excellent BID program and reputation for Interior Design.

It's always better to take a 4 bachelor degree if you have the option to do so. IDI course is more meant for those who have are looking to add it to their portfolio while already having a degree and don't want to go back to a 4 year commitment
