Interior quality levels in the procedural city

A showcase of how the quality level of the interior affects its design and atmosphere. It will affect the gameplay as well - higher quality interiors will be more rare, more interesting to explore, and harder to get into. But I also wanted to make sure that they are visually distinct to give the player an instant clue about how much value they can expect at each place. Keep in mind though that everything is randomly generated, so there's always a small chance that a level 1 interior will look like level 10 and vice versa.

This is cool idea but I can't see much difference in quality between the levels. They all look high quality. I would expect quality level 1 to be an old sofa and a mattress on the floor. Maybe it doesn't fit with the aesthetic though as these buildings look like prime real estate. Anyway, keep up the good work.

Yes the differences are mostly stylistic. I want to implement dirt and grime as a separate system that ties into the quests.

was this done mostly for variety or was their a performance aspect bbehind this system? also love seeing your progress, keeps me motivated 💪 keep it up.

This looks insane. Are those pre-built rooms/floors randomly put into the buildings or completely procedual placement of objects in the rooms? Either way hugely impressive!

Thanks! The placement is fully procedural and rules based, there are no pre-built rooms.

@@Orange_Pear There are rooftop terraces with trees. Any building has a chance to spawn one.

So, is say a random interior room on the 32nd floor of a tower accessible, or is interior access only on street level? Does the system differentiate between residential homes, office space, libraries, clothing shops and industrial pipeworks, or is everything bars, cafes and restaurants?

All floors are accessible via elevator. Yes there are offices, libraries and shops, but I haven't added industrial or maintenance spaces yet. I will though.

It's so weird that you don't mention which engine, 3d applications and software you're using... A secret or something like that? :)

It's just UE5 + Blender, pretty standard these days.

Yep, it's really very standard. Thank you for your reply! Houdini or AI procedural assets would be a... more original approach. But maybe you use it sometimes too

Not yet. I'm hell bent on releasing this project though, so I'm working hard to get it ready for a public demo :)
