A water barrier is not required. The rubber will not be damaged by water. However, water may become trapped beneath the rubber. In which case, it would be a good idea to lift the tiles; dry underneath, and lay them back down again.

In most cases, they are fine over hardwood. Sometimes, however, rubber can react to certain finishes. To prevent that, we recommend putting a layer of craft paper underneath the rubber flooring.
hi, if I wanted to use these mats on top carpet would I have to use plywood first then the mats or do I need anything else before placing the mats? please help.
+inlovewithkarate22 Interlocking rubber floor tiles are not recommended for installation over carpeting. They are intended to be installed over hard, flat surfaces. Greatmats does offer a few flooring solutions that can be used directly on carpet - such as StayLock Tiles or MaxTile Raised Floor Tiles. Those floors have a raised plastic base and are often used for home gyms, dance floors and anti fatigue flooring. I hope this helps.
