What EasyWithAces misses in his En Passant trolling is that it also makes no sense that pawns get to move two squares to start. It should have to march through the pawn's zone of control with two separate moves.

I use to say that Chess is not Startrek : pieces are not teleporting, so the "en passant" rule is coherent with the castling condition "not if the King has to walk through an attacked square". The pawn isn't teleporting to 2 squares ahead, he is moving "one-two". So it is really passing by an attacked square. As it would obviously be quite hard for the arbiters to handle a rule where one player would have to grab his opponent's hand when the pawn is right on the first step (having moved 1 square ahead and before he completes his 2nd square move), and say "Stop !!! Don't move anymore ! Hands up ! I'm capturing the pawn right now !!!" (Imagine ! We wouldn't be able to go to toilets each time an "en passant" move could be expected), I guess that's why it's permitted to do it afterwards. But only at the following turn. The fact that OTHER pieces can't capture the pawn in between his 2 squares move is rather strange, though. That would mean only the pawns can have like a "The Flash speedster acceleration" one or two times in a game (during the 2 squares move, and when capturing en passant) which makes them the true superheroes of the chess game ! And this without having to wear a tight flashy (!) -coloured costume !!!

@40:16 wouldn't it be safer to take with Bishop first at G6 and after that bring the Queen to H6? My thought here is if I play Qh6 first the King can escape to F7?, am I missing something?

Hey, don't know if you'll see this or not but if you are looking for new lesson video ideas, how about one on just tactics? Everyone says tactics are the most important thing in Chess next to not blundering your queen but I haven't yet any good videos or resources on what the various tactics are, how to set them up, and how to pull them off. Would be cool to see some games where you had a tactic in mind and see the moves it took for you to get there

He definitely should learn how to mate with 1. queen and king vs king 2. 2 Rooks and king vs king 3. Rook and king vs king Because all the principles you teach him are meaningless (I'm exaggerating) if he does not know how to close the game in the endgame.
