Moving on, let's look at the Meteor Hammer (MH) this time! ☄️
You'll find this is a great warm up for your wrists and fingers as this pattern forces you to work your pinching muscles due to the way we are holding the rope.
I find this to be an excellent warm-up not only for the body but the mind as well as you really have to concentrate to coordinate the pattern, especially when you are first learning it.
Sometimes I find myself getting lost in this pattern for what feels like ages as it can be quite hypnotic and really allows you to achieve that 'flow' state, a true pleasure to practice once you have nailed it.
Get practicing this ready for part 2 where we look at transitioning from underhand to overhand!

I gave up on this because for fear of getting hit. Today, I celebrate being able to perform the overhand meteor hammer!

One week later and I can now perform underhand and transition to overhand and back. It's totally worth it!

This really reminds me of the multi section staff or dart work done by the shaolin monks. Great tutorials

Thanks for your meteor hammer tutorial! I started to learn and the underhand seems to be much harder than the overhand, but … in slow motion I realized, that I'm doing it "wrong" skipping the matador part doing more a race & chase variant. And … while trying the meteor hammer underhand I take off my glasses, since really got a butt hitting my face (softly, but I fear my glasses, currently 😁)

This is essentially a 3-beat weave (OH & UH) for anyone who also plays w/poi. Love seeing all the ways fundamental patterns can be applied to different implements!

Thanks Tony, interesting how you draw the comparison to poi! I didn’t even think of that. Happy flowing my friend

Love your flow lessons mate! In this tutorial I'm left pretty confused though... You first explain it with the matador, but in the end it is 1 beat on one side, 2 beats on the other side no?
@spiralflowropes
@spiralflowropes 7 месяцев назад
Yes, there is something I should have better clarified in the video actually. So you should notice that at any one time during the pattern there will be one hand which is crossed over the body and one hand which is not. Let's call the hand that's crossed over the body the 'closed' hand. You'll notice in the video that the closed hand does indeed perform 2 beats on one side before bringing the rope over to the other side and then becoming the 'open' hand (not crossed over the body) where it will perform one beat on that side. So in effect there are a total of 3 beats per side. 2 being performed by the closed hand and 1 by the open hand and then it is repeated on the opposite side. That's the best way I know of explaining it in written form! I hope that helps and this will help me explain it better in future videos hopefully

Whacked myself hard on the ear with the handle trying to do this one. I may have to wear a helmet until I get the hang of it. 😮

How often will a knot hit your head, when you start practicing? Asking for a friend.
@spiralflowropes
@spiralflowropes Год назад
It is true that you are more likely to hit yourself with this exercise so more care must be taken but as you get better you will hit yourself less and less until you don't hit yourself at all anymore!

@@spiralflowropes thanks, will do! I wear glasses, and things like Cheetah's Tail or this one are always tricky. Very cool move, thanks for sharing! Very interesting channel.

I found it hard to get a rope for this particular sport. If I would like to DIY, what kinds of rope do you suggest? Cotton rope, climbing rope or ??

You can visit www.spiralflowropes.com and get yourself a top quality rope for a fraction of the price of what other rope flow companies sell them for my friend!

Where do you recommend to buy a rope ?

Hello! You can actually get flow ropes from our website at www.spiralflowropes.com! We’ve got the Thunderbolt V2 12mm rope or the Inferno 14mm rope. For beginners the Thunderbolt would be an ideal choice! Hope that helps

I saw matador at one side and figure 8 at the other in one hand movement. Am I correct?
@spiralflowropes
@spiralflowropes 3 года назад
Yeah so for one hand as the hand is on the outside of the body it does one beat and as it comes across the body it does two beats. Hope that makes sense. So essentially a figure 8 with an extra beat when the hand is across the body. That's the best I can explain it

@@spiralflowropes I found it much easier to perform the exact same move on both sides.

Do you have a transitional move for the meteor hammer to include it into a flow?
@spiralflowropes
@spiralflowropes 3 года назад
Hi there, do you mean to transition into meteor hammer from other patterns such as underhand matador for example?
@janmoetting1571
@janmoetting1571 3 года назад
@@spiralflowropes ye, i mean from other normal flow forms

Yes, I'd like to know this too!
@janmoetting1571
@janmoetting1571 3 года назад
@@jamescheynne2879 I tried a release on underhand, just throw away the right handle and let it come back to you. U can catch the handle normal and continue to flow, or try to catch the rope in the middle, so you can transition into the meteor. Did not work really good so far, but something to practice :D
