Hi Dr Tinawi! Regarding question 1, at what point would you consider conventional HD? At the presentation of symptoms with current labs? If so, which symptoms would present as more immediate?

This is a great question. Indications for hemodialysis are: Overt uremic symptoms: not just mild fatigue, for example: nausea, vomiting, weight loss, itching. Uremic pericarditis Uremic neuropathy Hyperkalemia or metabolic acidosis not responsive to medical therapy Fluid overload not responsive to diuretics

@@Tinawi thank you! With patients that would not necessarily tolerate a 3-4 hr treatment due to hemodynamic instability, would low efficiency dialysis (ie. 10-12hr) be considered if CRRT is not available? Or would concurrent hemodialysis be utilized first? Thank you for your videos!

Slow continuous dialysis is a great option and an alternative to CRRT.
