In either 1972 or 73 I purchased my 1066 new with TA and a Hiniker cab w/ heat. also a new 710 6-16 in the furrow plow. Total cost was $18,500. tractor and plow were brand new. The following year the price started to increase.

In 20 or 30 years, this bad boy will still get its job done, unlike modern plastic crap. Yes, it is noisy, smelly, it is slow and has no AC and fancy buttons and joysticks, but at least you can repair it yourself. Just imagine that these machines from 1970s are almost 50 years old now. Half century of hard work! Cheers for the engineers and metal workers that built them and farmers that fed their families with those machines and kept them in working order. Cheers for the generations that grew working with them!

@bigtractorpower I have to correct what you said at 2:27 about the power increase, saying it occurred in 1976. I've never heard any source say 1976 for that change, but I have seen many say 1973. However neither is correct... If you look up Nebraska test #1124 for the 1066 higher power output to 126 PTO HP (achieved by increasing rated engine speed from 2400 to 2600 rpm), you'll see the test was done in April 1973. I am guessing the timing of that test (as well as the 966 & 1466 updated tests) is why so many sources/books say that the power change happened in 1973. But of course the change in production happened before the new Nebraska tests. Consulting an IH 400 series engine service manual, you'll see that the rated speed was changed from 2400 to 2600 rpm with "chassis" serial number 23000 in the case of the DT414 in 1066. (Yes, 23000 even. All 66 series models had their respective serial numbers rounded up to the next even thousand for the speed/power increase.) Or, just look at the first page of Nebraska test #1124, it says "Chassis S/N -23000 and up" right there in the title! If you then look up serial numbers for 1066, you'll see that #23000 would have been built in late 1972 (my guess in November 1972), since #24205 was the first one built in 1973. It is well known that the power increase occurred with the rated speed increase. So that is solid proof/evidence that the power increase of the 66 series occurred in late 1972 production. While on the topic, using similar lookups in parts catalog listings cross-referenced to serial number lists, it can be determined that 66 series Deluxe cabs changed from the white cab to red cab in late 1973, and the "black stripe" graphics began in late 1975. The timing of those two changes are often mistaken too, so hopefully you can use this correct info in future videos. If you want to, you can look it up yourself first as I described here! :-)

Awesome vid👍ours International is 511 they were very popular here in Australia, ours split box with two doors, one fertilizer n other for seed. Seed was either wheat, canola, oats, barley or triticale. Next neighbour used sow 1066 with 511, our tractor was A554 International. Uncle had later version Case International, these were all tine with 7 inch spacing or 24 rows, optional 28 rows which wider seeder. International seeder could ease modify with different undercarriage tine or disc, bin extensions, 3rd box for clover/rye n tyres. All Internationals that I mention had ag tread tyres not smooth ones in this vid because of volcanic soils. Horwood bagshaw n Chamberlain were International competitors.

Jamie Shields where bouts in Aus are ya mate. Coincidental, we sometimes pull two 28s or a 28 and a 24. The 28s are 511s and the 24 is a A6-1 Inter. As a young bloke i used to run the 24 or the 28 behind a AW 7 inter then a 544 inter until the back end of the 544 gave up the ghost. We had half a dozen AW6s and 7s so i put the back end of one of the wrecked 7s onto the 544s motor. She lookss like a 7 coz i liked the look of them over the 544s front grill. She’s done nearly 12000 hours of hard work too but she now burns a bit of oil. And she still starts straight away with her glow plugs even when freezing cold. She also has the extra extra wide deep dish rims on her back end.. For a little 55 horse motor they are very very torquey and just keep lugging along and blow a bit more black smoke. Back in the seventies we also bought a Chamberlain Countryman 6. My dad used to drive that and id drive the W7. During seeding time we would have two 7s pulling a 24 and the other a 28 and the Chamberlain pulling another 28 while a Chamberlain C6-100 would pull a Chamberlain scarifier and another 28 run 511 seeder hooked behind that as well. This one had a culti-trash undercarriage under it and it left the paddocks like a billiard table. Now a days we use a Case 2290 to pull a 24 disc Chamberlain plough and one of the 28 run 511s behind that. Makes the Chamberlain plough track better and behave itself when pulling across the sides of hills. We also sometimes pull two of the 28 run 511s using a twin pull set up a little bit like this one but different. With both of the lids open and the ends blanked off, you can almost double the amount of seed they will hold. They are an excellent seeder and very accurate and almost infinite amount of gear selection for both seed and fertiliser.. Like you we also grow Triticale, lupins, oats, barley and wheat. No conola though. With the two 28s hooked together you cN cover a fair amount of acres in a day. Good ol machines them Inters. We r in WA.
@jamieshields9521
@jamieshields9521 4 года назад
Steven Owen I from Victoria in Nth East, can’t grow lupins because of frost. Our A554 suffer like other A554 crank failure, then we used International 786, next was NH TM125 n after that we went to Steiger 9370 with 40ft airseeder. Although we still used 511 with McCormick MC130 on small paddocks. Driven most of old Chamberlain tractors but didn’t like their seed drill because of plastic cogs in box with age the cogs would snap. Have ever done centres on your 511? We have n heard the centre is weakest line on the 511.
@stevenowen4150
@stevenowen4150 4 года назад
Jamie Shields the centres??? If you mean the over run ratchet set up that makes the clickety click click noise on corners, yes. We buggered two up last year. The first one was in a two hundred acre paddock and i noticed it straight away luckily. It was on the second round, so i walked back and just by good luck i found all the little driving dogs in the ratchet set up. Needle in a hay stack huh. They are a good design but not quite strong enough if you over load them. The only other thing i dont like about the inter seeders is that theyre shits of things to clean out when switching varieties.. Personally, I think theres a lot of keeping up with the neighbours with super duper fandangled ways of putting seed in the ground at exactly 2:738 inches deep and all the rest of the bullshit that goes along with it. Two years ago it was too wet to even pull a seeder around one of our paddocks so we used a broadcaster to spread 50 acres of Triticale. I then ran a 35 ft wideline scarifier over it taking a very shallow scratch at about ten mph. It was the best crop out of all we put in and averaged nearly 20 bags to the acre. The heads were ten inches long in some places but about 10 acres got frosted. Back fifty years ago if we werent getting at least 25 bags to the acre we thought it was a dismal crop. My dad back then used an old Horwood Bagshaw combine. It had a bridle draught undercarriage on it and it was a proper mongrel of a thing. All open gears and to change rates ya had to swap gears and buggerize around like that. The wheat and barley never failed to grow a good crop though, even when some of the seeds were planted four inches deep and the row next to it some of the seeds were left lying on the top. When he bought the A6-1 24 run combine he thought he was pretty hot shit. No more swapping gear sets around, it had hydraulics to lift it and 24 rows. It was huge.lol. Ya couldnt overload them though coz the hams on the axles were cast and they used to snap off. That is the only difference over the next three models of Aussie Inter combines. The 511s had welded steel hams instead of the fragile cast ones on the A6-1 and A6-2s. And the 511 went out to 28 runs too. One of our 28 511s has been set up for no-till with a complete different undercarriage that need the whole machine raised by about 16 inches for it to fit under it.. the downtubes are set on a parallel linkage system held together with bolts. You could sink the points in up to about eight inches and the metal boot filled in the furrow and the seed would drop into a two inch furrow and at the back of the seeding boot a tungsten tab would cover the seed. Worked well until after a day and all the bolts would wear out and snap off . Iv since converted it back to a very narrow point and the metal boots are bolted directly and solidly to the tine. No doubt, no till has a place in marginL rainfall areas, but our area is as safe as a church. But thirty years ago we would be seeding in May, now we start probly early mid june. Its not climate change, its calender change.lol. A big wide airseeder would be nice though, i. Roke my back in two places five years ago and now six hours of bouncing around in the Case is about all i can handle for a day then i almost have to crawl. Im not getting any younger either and at 86 me dad aint as active as he once was. He still demands and insists i pick him up every day though. He is one that will never ever retire. Good luck mare with this years program. After all this Coronaclap virus has pissed off and things get back to normal, all farmers deserve a break from the stress and toll it has taken on everybody. Good luck be with ya.👍👍

Steven Owen interesting👍we Sunshine 500 before International 500 with no hydraulic ram you had turn crank handle n pull rope to engage seeder into gear. The tines were old school it was slow sowing with Sunshine. You are right cleaning out 511 and turn crank handle it’s tight spot near tyre. Hope your sowing season goes well, stay safe👍

Plenty of 511's imported into the UK in the 1970's, and some are still is use today, either as a wet weather drill when tyre packers cannot travel, or for min-till. (Just seeded Spring oats with mine). Never seen the disc or DD undercarriage, just the stump-jumps. They change hands for £500 or so.

My Uncle bought a brand new 1066 with hydrostatic transmission probably 1972. Great driving tractor but the early hydrostatic transmissions had issues. When they got hot, and if you then pushed in the clutch, when you released the clutch the transmission would not engage. It sometimes would just sit there for ten minutes. It could be a dangerous situation sometimes.

Good video, hey on the related subject with IH, what years were the 806 made, and they had a power shift called a TA is that right?
@farmboy5622
@farmboy5622 4 года назад
The Farmall 806 was manufactured from 1963 to 1967. Yes, they had a Torque Amplifier (TA). The TA lever was on the left side (as in sitting in seat looking forward) of the tractor cowl, near the instrument panel. It is around a foot long or longer. There was usually a round black rod around it, that was used as a handhold to climb up onto the tractor. The TA is a gear reduction device that works on the go. You did not have to use the clutch. When the lever was pulled back, it reduced your ground speed and gave you a little more torque to pull through the tough spots. When the lever was pushed forward, it would increase your ground speed. You had to be careful in the higher gears and traveling fast. Because when you pulled the TA lever back, it would almost instantly slow you down. I learned this the hard way, before seat belts. I was thrown into the steering wheel and almost fell off the tractor. I also learned the difference between hydraulically actuated brakes and mechanically actuated brakes. I was around 9-10 years old back then.

Why are you seeding so fast? Video makes the machines to be travelling around 20 K's or 12mph, that would not be so ,is it ?it looks like a race field .

Rather than say "Central Illinois" why not just say the County. Central Illinois takes in a lot of territory, I was born in Champaign in 1944, we lived for several years in Ivesdale. Dad was actually born in Mahomet.

This narrator is the same joker that said the cotton gin would turn the baled cotton into clothing and other products. Bahahaha! He should do his research before making an @ out of himself instead of just reading a script handed to him!

What are you talking about? I do not read a script. This a bobby if mine. I have watched this Machinery all my life and talk with farmers about what I am filming and read the original sales brochures. There is no generic script.
