Probably one of the best if not the best explanation and instruction of a carlin joint. Great job man🤙🏼🙌

Oh man what a pleasure it is to watch your videos. A true craftsman at work that had me wishing I could have shown this to my grandfather. He would have loved this equally as he appreciated ‘a craftsman that never blames his tools’. Thank you.

Thank you. And I blame the tools all the time but they just throw the blame right back at me.

Love it. Thank you for another excellent instalment. Keeping your tools sharp may take time, but in the end you work faster and more accurately, so you make the time back, you need less force which is safer and less tiring.

Nice horizontal belt sander! First time you've shown it.

I’m sure it has been in other videos but it isn’t much of a showboat.

@@bin_chicken80 it oscillates so that the wear is spread over a larger area the belt. Extends the belt life, which is desirable because those belts cost about $30 a piece.

Mark, I think you need to add a little Kevlar to the front of your apron when you make the new one so we out here learning from you don't have to worry about losing you to an injury. The liver and pancreas are sort of necessary. Take care and have a good week.
@Nomadboatbuilding

I’ll consider that.

you just keep getting better. can't wait to see the dude sailing it. I'm sure he watches your videos and anticipates sailing. epoxy is weird, right? loose joint is better? when do you sleep? how do you edit and respond to emails?

I squeeze the sleep in when I can and answer the rest as soon as I can when they come in. Never let it pile up.

For me this is a little like reading a book; what's going to happen next? And how will the events take place? Boyancy foam, deck and then further.. I have some vage ideas about what is going to happen, but how is it going to take place precisely? And is what I think might happen really going to? I enjoy this adventure like story telling very much and how you show each step in detail and explain while doing it. Greets from a dutchboy.

@@Nomadboatbuilding I'm not sure wether the owner of the boat is going to like that or not.. I do have a question: Is honeycomb plate an option for the deck? It's very strong and light and I supose the deck is not going to be walked on. I'm not sure it would save much weight and it doesn't have a wood finish, but it's a sort of "choose my own adventure" in my head.

@@bgt7874 weight is an issue. We have to exceed a minimum for the rules but there is little room above it to stay competitive. We’re going to use a layer of 3mm plywood with a layer of 3mm sapelle laid over that.

When you said, you just need to be careful you don't jab yourself in the liver or pancreas, as you were using that chisel. My father was shipwright and a finishing carpenter and one time he was giving me instruction with a very sharp utility knife and as he proceeded to say never draw the knife towards you, its very dangerous as he proceeded to draw the knife towards himself, he sliced a huge cut into the palm of his hand. Every time I someone says to me never do this! or be careful when doing this! I cannot help but think of that story! BTW You must be a banjo player or a guitar player and builder with that luthier vice! at hand, no?

@@lunkydog True, but at his age it could lead to serious complications if chiseled ? If has to be taken out, you may have an increased risk of infection. The degree of risk depends on age and if you have other diseases. Although risk of infection is highest in the first two years after , it stays high for the rest of life.
