The rocker assemblies on my spare International Harvester 345 V8 were shot from oil starvation. We take a trip to the junk yard to find replacements in this video.
Toolman , I really enjoyed this video to the salvage yard and your attention to details on the engine and on your old Binder . American Iron all the Way . God Bless You and Your Family. Thanks Again.
The rear cam bearing supplies oil to the top of the engine. When they sit for a long time that bearing will stick to the cam. When started the bearing will spin making it so the oil can no longer flow to the upper part of the engine.
Nice vid. I had a Scout ll new in 78 with a 345. Rust took my baby too fast but she still lives on in my heart. I enjoyed the ride thru the junk yard, was that by chance some russian folk music we were listening to?
I remember someone commenting on the Binderplanet forum that Scouts started rusting before they left the factory. Sorry for your loss. I always choose music from the RU-vid audio library. The song in this video is called "Dude, Where's My Horse" by - Nat Keefe with The Bow Ties.
If you're looking for engine parts, I'd be more inclined to check with Windy Hills in New London, MN. In the distant past, I tried calling ahead and was told I need to come there in person. Things may have changed, but it's less than an hour from me, so I just drive out there. The guy who runs the place knows his inventory well. Good luck on your rebuild.
It's called "Dude, Where's My Horse" by Nat Keefe and the Bow Ties. You can find it in the RU-vid Studio audio library or by searching for the song title in RU-vid. Glad she enjoyed the tune.
I'm not sure. I don't think an International SV engine is something people routinely hot rod. Go fast parts for them are nearly non-existent. The people looking for high revving horsepower usually opt for a small block swap.
Blowers are bolt on power for these. Stock low compression is pretty forgiving with turbos. EFI swap will make it a bit easier but you can build the oem carb fairly simply for a few lbs from a turbo. Two small Sabb turbos from a junk yard seems to be effective.
I found the parts I needed through a combination of Amazon, ebay, NAPA and Google searches using the original International Harvester part numbers. When you own an International, part searching is just part of the fun!
Last week I winterized and tucked the pick-up in for a long winter nap. I have the replacement engine mostly assembled. Next I'll stab in the distributor and a new set of plugs so I can fire it up. If that goes well, I will add a radiator to the stand so I can run it for an extended period of time. I want to shake it down good and fix any problems that arise while it is out of the truck and easy to get at. I will post additional videos as I make progress.
