If the families of the Tsunami victims were to say they find it distressing, thats one thing, if not, we really need to stop getting offended on behalf of others.
until Ed said this, not once had I mentally linked the fun / silly footy Tsunami, with the boxing day tradgedy. And your spot on, if this is really a concern, Bombers is just as triggering. if not more so. And please, wont someone consider the unfortunate relatives of those who were tragically eaten by lions
My concern with the Tsunami warning is that it could cause actual confusion in the areas surrounding the stadium, where people (and emergency services) think there's an emergency unfolding.
An uncomplicated draft would not be more fair, as NSW and QLD teams constantly lose played to go home down south. Therefore removing academies would be less fair
If international rules, then it also needs state of origin every other year. With international rules the AFL is far more professional now, so the rules need to be more stacked to gaelic footballers to give them more of an advantage. With State of Origin it needs to be played preseason with the top players being removed from practice matches. With the principle being that the top players don't play any more matches than other AFL players. Also the Origin matches can be reduced time and double headers, further reducing workload. There needs to be compensation for players who get injured and then get delisted at year end. AFL need to administer that for fairness and to encourage players to get involved. Also, clubs need compensation if a key player gets injured. This could be increased salary cap and an ability to recruit players from other clubs or increase their squad. We don't want it to be unfair on players or clubs. If these problems can be dealt with then you have a competition that's feasible.
Tsunami warning could be very triggering to our ex and current service men and women especially as it is similar to air raid warning, don't understand why it would be needed in a game expect to alert for an emergency. Speaking of learning from other sports, i work in gymnastics and we had a Carlton player (no longer plays) come to learn from gymnastics how to spring and jump to assist his marking and rucking, learn from other sports and the greatest game in the land becomes better again
When it comes to the bye, there needs to a massive overall of the concept. At the halfway point, all football stops for a fortnight and every team gets the bye, instead of over three weeks, that way everything is fair and equal. Or a group of teams that have a bye play a team that were in the same bye round as each other. Most cases when a team comes off a bye, all that momentum they've built is all gone and they go up against a team that either hasn't had a bye or had one about two weeks beforehand end up losing.
The Lions also bring back painful memories for those whose friends have been eaten by them. And as for the bombers, well, thats just to painful to talk about
If you asked most supporters if they’d prefer International Rules or State of Origin I reckon they’d say State of Origin. International Rules is a pointless exercise that doesn’t even allow our players to use their best skills.
Pay a Free Kick against players who drive their head into the ground or try to milk any other infringements from their own doing! Would be cool to see another International Series!
Agreed. When International Rules was in play it occurred every two years about two months after the Grand Final. What they should do its one year an International Rules Series and the other year a State of Origin Series, maybe post season after the Grand Final.
