Internet Upset At Deion Sanders For Telling Colorado Players To Transfer, Misinterpreted Speech? 

If you’ve ever played football at any level what Deion said was probably one of the nicest things you’ve heard from a coach 😂

I am a huge Colorado fan and I was happy with his speech .All he said was if you gonna be lazy get gone.

Yo McAfee is a straight beast. This guy speaks his mind with no hesitation. That’s the kind of sports coverage real fans need. Not a scripted response to “breaking news”.

As a CU alumni from the Coach Mac years and I'm super thrilled about CU landing Coach Prime. I listened to his whole speech to the CU team and found nothing wrong with it. In fact, it made me want to go back to school there. :) Also, I loved his meeting with his JSU team to discuss his departure. His JSU team displayed more gratitude and class than most when it comes to handling Coach Prime leaving. It's a testament to him as a coach and as a person and why JSU went undefeated.

Them boys won ONE game. Good on Prime to set the tone from the jump. Some players didn't even show up to the meeting, get the BS out.

Colorado fan here. This is absolutely 100% what he needed to say. This team has been dogshit for years now, especially this year winning one single game. His job isn't to be sweet and hold their hands. He's changing the culture, and if they can't put the work and time in, they get gtfo

Deion’s doing exactly what he needs to. Setting the tone and expectations on day one. No beating around the bush, no BS. Either give 100% effort in or football isn’t for you.

Being direct is a very difficult form of teaching, not many people have what it takes to look at a young man and tell him the hard truth, sometimes it could be an easy truth. A lot of coaches choose to lie to your face and act like they believe everything they just told you. What Prime did was show the upmost respect to these young men & told them the absolute truth so they fully understand what they’re up against. This team will succeed fast if they buy into what he’s selling!

Prime basically said it is the end of the participation trophy era at Colorado !

If my boys played college football and I heard a coach talking like that there would be no other options. That’s exactly the kind of man you want mentoring your young men.

Deion Sanders was being dead honest. He is bringing a winning culture to Colorado and wants the dead asses gone. I watched him play here in Tallahassee at FSU and he gave it all. He still comes here and it’s good to see him when it able to catch him around. He is still down to earth and a God fearing man. Colorado some how got lucky and landed him.

Every single program does this. Colorado went 1-11. They need better players. Deon's gonna go get them.

A snapshot of the culture in the Colorado football program was revealed when one of the player's asked what the Summer Training was going to be like. It's going to be hard, and you might miss that family vacation you got used to enjoying, but it has to be done to go from losers to winners. The good news is that the quality of player, both on and off of the field, will be markedly changed for the better.

Deon has some serious balls to take this job. If Prime can get Colorado turned around, he would become the greatest college football coach in the world. I think Deon is going to get it done.

Deion made it very clear that he only wants people who want to be there and will work to win. In fact, he just gave those players a look into the real world. You perform or you get out.

It's hard to look at those beautiful facilities and accept the lackluster performance from that program for years. COACH SANDERS IS A GREAT BLESSING for Colorado

That speech reminds you of when a new Commander of a military unit that has performed well under expected standard is before the troops for the first time And talks about what has gone before what is expected now and in the future. The fact that the players didn't really ask questions when they had a full opportunity to do so tells you.. . a lot about the team culture and atmosphere that needs to change

I’ve never been to the state of Colorado or watched a Colorado football game, but I can tell you that I more excited for Colorado football than I’ve ever been in my entire life

Day one when they walked Saban around the Alabama facility he stopped in the weight training area. He looked up at a huge TV screen and told the person conducting the tour to have the TVs out of the weight training area that day. It set the tone.

That speech was excellent! I felt like I was going to lose my spot on the team to someone more accountable, and I don't even play football 🤣that's the kind of vibe they need to change a losing culture

He's building courage and teamwork and winning to this team. The way he holds PLAYER'S accountable is NECESSARY 💯💯💯

People being upset is a really good indicator as to how people have gotten soft. The man is a certified winner. He knows what it takes to win. And you can’t win without structure and expecting the best at all times. Like he said some of them won’t make it and it won’t matter because there will be guys that have no problem buying in completely to his philosophies.

He didn't tell them to transfer. He said if you're not on board go ahead and transfer. There is a difference. Anytime a new hire comes in that's what happens. Players leave, those not performing get their scholarships ripped, all Deon did was not sugarcoat what was about to happen.

He basically said I'm coming to bring you a Championship. Winning attitudes, dedication, and hard workers will be rewarded! All others...you will be dismissed! Love It!

He didn’t say that by the context they tryna project.. he straight up said I’m telling y’all it’s gonna be some fast winning changes when I get back, so if you don’t wanna change bad habits.. hit that transfer portal ASAP 💯

I loved Coach Prime's speech to those players. That team clearly didn't have that accountability and discipline if they went 1-11. Deion doesn't hold anything back and will keep you accountable. He makes you better and has very high standards for his players. If you can't hang with that, I don't know what to tell you.

My college coach basically did the same thing. We were his first college recruiting class. So for the previous team he made sure to weed out the week with winter conditioning. And ran the heck out of them to make sure the ones that really wanted to play were there.

Coach Primes speech is exactly the attitude I want in a head coach. What I got out of it is he wants kids that want to compete and win and are not entitled to it. I’m really excited to see what he will do for the Buffs and I’m not even a Colorado fan!

I was listening to the radio this morning and Ben Leber was on, as usual, and he was saying how bad of a speech it was. I listened for myself and I got the same impression as Pat. Seemed more like Prime was calling people to step up more than anything.

He said what needed to be said. Kids don't want to work or be held accountable anymore. We have a "microwave culture" that's destroying work ethic in youth; kids want everything handed to them in a millisecond or they want to transfer when the going gets tough. Great job Coach Prime!!!

I feel that the reason that a lot of people are upset is that they have never been held accountable!!! They don't realize that "Iron sharpens Iron" and that the program is in need of a major culture change. I am hoping for great things for Colorado and being told that no one is safe is a good thing. They get to decide if this is what they really want for their lives....

Deion is exactly what any team or organization (sports or not) needs for a turn around. Accountability/discipline and a mindset on success.

His speech was inspiring to those who are willing to put in the work. His job is to not only build a culture but to weed out those of weak mind and body. The ones who stay will be pushed hard and they will get stronger day by day. They will play for each other. They will never quit no matter how difficult situations will be. They will be successful on the field and more importantly they will be successful in their personal endeavors.

Prime is able to be brash and confident because he backs it up with integrity and standards. That combo is valuable to young men.

We live in Centennial…near Boulder…the buffs are putrid and irrelevant…it’s about time a REAL coach shows up and cares and wants a winner here in Colorado!! I’m a military vet and love how hard he’s going to be on the players!

I read a story about Chuck Noll the day of his first team meeting with the Steelers. He talked about how he was going to turn them into winners then said that most of the players in the room wouldn’t be there when it happened. Nothing Deion said crossed a line. He’s sending a message buy in or go somewhere else.

When I played football in middle school, our first day the coach told us we are expected to play like a team and work hard, and if anyone is not willing to do this - hit the road. We were not even teenagers yet, but nobody had a problem with this way of thinking, and nobody's parents complained about special treatment for their 'little man.' Therefore, nobody at the D-1 college level should have a problem with this message either. Coach Prime is doing what every good coach does early on, which is establish leadership over the team he was hired to lead. Regardless of what age you are, which level you're on, which division you play in, or which team you play for, if your team's record is 1-11 then Coach Prime's message should be a welcome one. If you don't feel that way - hit the road.

Unlike a very long list of coaches that dump their team Deion spoke to his jsu team first. He is finishing the season with them and advising/helping those players. I'm amazed not 1 cu player took their hat off after coach said no more hat wearing for team meetings...

I'm 60 years old and played my last semi pro game in 1985. After hearing Deon's speech, I wanted to head out to the practice field and start workin!

I watched the whole speech and was inspired. As a long suffering Buff I am glad to see Coach Prime at Colorado. I do feel bad for the kids at Jackson State and I have admired his work there. Many of those kids will come to Boulder and have many more doors open. Only because the stage is a bit bigger. I wish the Program at Jackson State well and will cheer for them.

When he says that no one will be wearing hats in the speech, only one guy in the back row took his hat off. 4 guys in the front row heard that and didn't take their hat off...says a lot

I don’t really hold a College Program close to my heart but watching that speech makes me want to buy a jersey! I love Primes message and style. Save your Family! those players looked scared, but I hope they stay. It will be a great experiment to see what a change of culture will do to that 1 win team.

His meeting and speech with the players reminded me of coach Boone in the movie Remember the Titans 💪🏾🔥💪🏾🔥

Colorado hasn’t been really good for awhile. When I attended we destroyed Nebraska and were contending for the division championships every year. There needs to be large change. He’s an old school coach and I love it.

Old school! I loved it. ACCOUNTABILITY a lost word with these kids of today. He’s gonna hold everyone accountable from the waterboy, to the trainer, to the AD!

CU is known to have very strict transfer rules. However the new athletic director is a CU alum from the late 80/ early 90s, back when CU was one of the top dogs in the CFB world. The new director has heavily relaxed transfer rules so give Deion a few years and CU is gonna be legit. I'm excited to see what happens

I thought it was messed up at first, but after watching the whole video and not a 5 second clip I changed my opinion. I think he’s more so saying if you’re not constantly committed to excellence, winning, & the grind that comes with it leave because I can get more people in here that won’t settle for the standard Colorado has had recently.

I was initially upset at 1st being a blk college but prime did wonders for them now on to a bigger stage I'm prime all the way I'm happy for him and the opportunity to make another school great

Johnny Majors gave a similar speech on arrival at Pitt (no phone worries then!) and players bailed. He had to drain a couple of jc's to round out the team. Winning commenced immediately.

Honestly, he said what needs to be said. These young athletes get coddled so much nowadays they think they can act and do as they please. That's all fine and dandy if your handling your shiet but if your 1-11, a change is in order. My brother did the Same thing when he inherited his HS band program. He said you're either gonna give me full effort and if not, there's the door. No one is forcing you to stay. And a few years later, his band placed first in their division marching band competition and he has a group of committed and capable kids now. Need to change the culture first and foremost

I've been a Buffs fan since I was a kid (the 80's), and I can say that Dion was right to tell these kids to leave if can't play at this level. It's time to light the fire under this program, those kids needed a wake up call not coddling.

I was one of those who was upset at first but now that I had a couple of days to think about it, I understand what he is trying to build. He is going to prepare those kids for the Everyday NFL player life!

The internet would have went ape on Chuck Noll in HIS first year with the Steelers when he told the entire team that they stink and probably need to be replaced. Just consider that when pillorying someone like Deion in this situation. Totally support Prime here. Totally. One win ball clubs DESERVE speeches like that.

Watch any one of his talks with his team. Tears may come to your eyes. This is the guy you want your kid to play for. He will bring a team of men to every game. If you're not you're out.

Going to a one win team is smart. If you win, you’re a hero…and there’s no immediate pressure to win. I like some of his message, and some of it could’ve been worded different. Those kids are not the reason the coach got fired. You don’t ever put that on the kids. My Dad was a great high school coach who always said “kids win and coaches lose”.

All people want is honesty. That is probably the most honest a coach has been to them since they got the CU. At least they have the portal as an option.

I love what Coach Sanders said about rules and conduct. Colorado needed this and I heard over 200 kids have been in contact with Colorado.

Deions speech was great. At first I was like "wow, that's harsh" but I get it. The team sucked before he got there and he is doing "tough love" to help get the players to grow and improve. Anyway, he spent a lot of time asking players to not go through the portal and play with the team for their sakes. Deion really was showing that he cared about them. Whoever that is accusing Deion of something different didn't watch the whole thing.

I went to Neville High School. One of the best schools in the state of Louisiana as far as football goes… Our former coach, Mikey MCCarty, held players accountable like Deion… As a results, we have multiple players in the NFL including: WR/ Returner Kavonte Turpin (Cowboys) DL Justin Ellis (Giants) A guard for the Jaqs and a DL for the Commandors.. I think the best route is to always keep it strictly 💯 w/ these players. Rather they like it or not

The best thing about all this is Deion is coming with "prove you wrong" energy from the previous school. Because nobody from Jackson State wanted to invest in the team, he's making sure that the money that comes to the Colorado program will result in a winning team. I freaking love it.

Kind of like the first ten minutes of Marine bootcamp with your new "coach" drill instructor LOL, but there's no transfer portal once you've signed those Marine "letter of intent" papers LOL. At least these guys can leave if they don't like it. Go Buffs!

Any team that has been in the cellar as long as CU has been, any good new coach would clean house. The current players clearly weren't cutting it on many levels.

That’s how most people lose scholarships. If you’ve never been at a school and when the last HC walk out and the next HC come in, that coach will bring his own crew in and anybody from last bunch, is not promised to play the next season.
