IMHPJ Annual Conference 2022, in collaboration with the laboratory of Psychopathology and Psychoanalysis, Kyoto University.
Darian LEADER, is a psychoanalyst and author. His books have been translated into French, Spanish, and Japanese and include Promises Lovers Make When It Gets Late (1997), The New Black: Mourning, Melancholia and Depression (2008), Strictly Bipolar (2013), Why Can't We Sleep? (2019), and Jouissance: Sexuality, Suffering and Satisfaction (2021). www.darianleader.com/
Together we reflect on how the history of analytic interpretations inflect those of other traditions. The lecture is aimed at clinicians from cognitive as well as non-psychoanalytical backgrounds and will provide examples of how different analysts might interpret a particular clinical sequence. Darian Leader lives in London and is a founding member of the Centre for Freudian Analysis and Research.

Switch words: here is a real life example. I must have been seven or eight; it was early morning and I was in the living room practicing piano. My mother was upstairs dressing for her day while listening for my piano mistakes, yelling down and criticizing me. I shouted up to her "why did you ever born me!" She answered back to me, "don't be stupid!" I then realized that I had hit onto something important. I knew I was not stupid. I unconsciously knew that she thought I was smart - to unbury her truth. In reality she was disappointed that I was not a male child who the family doctor informed her to expect. It took me a lifetime to discover how her disappointment would affect my life - and hers. But she died before I could confront her. This is why psychoanalysis is important if one is lucky enough to find an authentic analyst such as this man speaking.

It would be interesting to know where Darian locates himself on this interpretative spectrum?

These transactional interactions are the basis for almost all relationships now. You give to get. Even in families.

I like Darian's quote, 'Your bait of falsehood take this carp of truth': employing small falsehoods to capture larger truths. Frederick Crews argues persuasively that Freud did a lot of that, his revered case studies are works of fiction; now, that's a lot of bait.

As I understand the World status of Psychoanalysis, there are many nations that embrace analysis, having many thousands of practicing, busy and thriving psychoanalysts who attract eager clients in many nations other than the US. Why everywhere else but not here, where I live? The US the American Psychoanalytic Societies and Associations are falling by the wayside, being viewed as cultists or weird fanatics of sorts. (I may be exaggerating) Yet the reality is that I can not get a name of a Freudian PA to assess or evaluate my analysis of me. They have been banned from Universities, it seems. The only analysts available are Jungians who to me are still practicing only because they get mostly religious sorts. (My hunch, only) Jung has some value as far as melding the Animus and Anima together, and I also feel that Individuation is important. Yet in reality psychoanalysis is far more relevant to conflict resolution. I was born a Christian and finally left the church because I wanted answers. Having bee an Analysand for nearly a decade in my mid 20s - 30s, I had the experience that allowed me to correct the mistakes made as an analysand. I knew where to look inside of my dysfunctional family. It seems that the traditional IPA dismissed Freudian Theory decades ago and are now bickering over the rules and benefits of new theories, IDK what their concerns and issues are! To me they are useless and ought to disband. Moreover, like NATO rules over the EU, the IPA rules over the APA. Neither situation yields any benefit to their underlings. IMHPJ is amazing 💫💫💖 This is how psychoanalysis will correct the IPA and the APA. My personal investigation of my parental family led me to many of the same conclusions and understanding as stated by Darian Leader. Perhaps it would be faster and easier if IMHPJ opened a US affiliate. We need HELP over here, as anyone who reads my ubiquitous comments ☺ on RU-vid knows.
