Hello IT Pros! You can try the following process on a HP laptop. Depending on the model if may or may not work. Turn the laptop off, connect the charger to the wall. Next, with the computer still shut down, press the "windows" key and the "B" key at the same time, while doing that press the power button for 1-3 seconds. Then, release ONLY the power button. You should hear a beep or the screen might turn on, (some times it takes several seconds for this to happen. Keep pressing the "windows" and "B" keys). Finally, the Bios recovery process will start automatically, follow the instructions on the screen. If this process doesn't work, repeat it a few more times. If still doesn't, either your laptop model does not support the Bios recovery process or there is a physical issue with the computer, most likely the motherboard. Hope it helps!
@@sumXlegacyYour data (HDD/SSD) should not be affected. The bios is a check up that runs before Windows/Linux is even booted. In other words: IF the problem was the bios and not the hard drive, you data is intact.

Nice video, thanks. I live in the Netherlands and we have a very stable and reliable grid. But last night I updated the BIOS of my desktop Gigabyte AB350 Gaming 3 board to make it suitable for the next gen of AMD Ryzen processors. I had just finished updating the BIOS when about 10 minutes later we had a total blackout in this area which lasted for almost 3 hours. It made me wonder what would have happened if the power had gone down during the update itself, that is how I found this video. In my case I would have only needed a new motherboard but it is still a waste of money and a lot of hassle. It seems I was very lucky.
@@pili9951 Hello TE_Pili, Sorry that happened to you :/ I know it sucks..... Now, it depends on the brand. On a HP model, (again depending on the model), you'd have to use another computer, download the bios version for your model and create a bootable USB flash drive. Once done, connect the USB to the problematic computer/laptop and press "Windows key and the V key" that should make the system to load the USB and install the Bios again. In the computer shown in the video this process did not work. In that case replacing the motherboard is "easiest" solution.......There is another solution which is replacing the Cmos chip itself on the motherboard. Recently my laptop already had some issues and I read one of the probable solutions was to update the BIOS. I have never heard of it and thought it was like updating an app or a driver. After doing little research I found that updating the BIOS is quite delicate and stuff like this could happen. I really got lucky for not bricking my motherboard by my ignorance hahaha.

I think any of us who is looking for a solution to a failed bios update already knows the consequences of interrupting the update whether it's by a power interruption or by a bad install or bad code or compatibility issues. The $60 million dollar question is how to UNF**K the pc or laptop afterwards? Basically taking a laptop and dropping it 3 stories just to show what would happen to it is a no brainer, everyone already knows the outcome without the demonstration.
If you turn off the PC during the BIOS update it make render your motherboard unusable. You must fix it yourself or send it back to the manufacture for repairs It will be a big hustle
If your motherboard had 2 BIOS chip follow these steps 1.Swich to the second chip and boot to Windows 2.While the PC still on switch to The first Bios chip and run the Update 3.it will repair all broken files
I have always wondered what would happen if the unfortunate happened and I lost power in the process in the middle of a bios update like this I had a strange feeling that the computer would be toast and it looks like I'm right if anything it's always best to have a UPS connected to a desktop computer just in case something like this does happen but it looks like there's no fix for something like this
Today, I update my laptop's BIOS and it wasn't going into Windows, but restarting. I almost panicked a bit before remembering I needed to do an EC Reset. I did it, and thankfully, Windows was back, instead of my computer being in a shutdown/boot loop. I updated the EC Firmware after that, and I didn't forget to EC Reset. But seriously, my heart didn't stop racing when I was updating the BIOS. I felt like defusing a bomb.

Hello Om Shiv, A UPS helps a lot. A bios upgrade process most of the times goes well. Now, few times it might fail. When that happens depending on the model it will revert to the previous working version or you might need to do something like pressing some combinations of keys on the keyboard to recover it. It can be easily fixed With the computer off, press and hold the Windows key and the B key at the same time.Still pressing those keys, press and hold the Power button on the computer for 2 to 3 seconds, and then release then release the Power button but continue to hold the windows and B keys until the BIOS update screen displays or you hear a beeping sound but this works in some laptops only in that case you can still flash bios file to usb drive and insert it and do the above mentioned procedure...This combination works fine in hp model
Hello, Weird, normally the BIOS updates are tested by the manufacturer before release. However, something I have seen on other HP models is that it takes a while for the windows to show up. Another detail to check is if the there is an app blinking in the task bar, that might be the what you need. Other than that, download the BIOS update again, close all running applications before updating, run the BIOS file with admin rights, (right click on BIOS file and select "run as admin"). Im stucked in the same scenario. My MSI is turned off while the BIOS flashing / repairing. Now the PC dont boot anymore, if I press the On button the screen is black while the keyboard is lighted on. I have no chance? Nothing works, F8, F12, and other combinations. Just the back light of keybord is on and a tiny noise of the fans. What can I do?
if the bios is interrupted and the system does not post like this example is only the motherboard dead or is the cpu,ram, hdd,ssd, etc all dead as well ie: what components are salvageable

Hello Oliv, If it has been in that screen for a long time (more than 30 min/1 hour) with no change, i would reboot the computer. I mean, there is no other option available. In my case, after BIOS update, laptop didn't restart. It just having charging light on hours (even when it's unplugged) and nothing else. I tried to long press power button but nothing happened. Just charging light on and black screened cold laptop. Any suggestions how to mend this problem?

It will give deep information about computers and IT in general. There are also courses for it in Udemy and here in RU-vid, look for "professor messer a+ 1001" and you can watch that as well. Another that is great imo is the Google IT support professional certificate, that's a payed one in Coursera. To get more practice I'd say, if you have the means, buy a used computer in Ebay like the dell optiplex 7010 or a laptop, and on that you can replace/add/remove the ram/processor/ssd/video card install win server/win10/win11/linux etc. Not sure if you in the US/Canada, if you are, getting the Comptia a+ or the google cert gives you have way more chances to get an IT job in places like Walmart/Amazon, just to name a few. In this case, (again, I dont know the history of the computer, so i can't be 100% sure ), if there is no change check the manufacturer's website and look for the problem you are having, if it's common issue other users may have seen it as well. Great show. Have ?. I have a dell xps8920 with Win10 pro. I want to downgrade the os to win7 pro. Problem, dell prevents you from installing win7. Even starting with a fresh clean HD, every thing will load from the dvd fine and then.....when the 1st screen for entering what country etc pops up and your ready to hit next.....you find your keyboard and mouse are no longer connected. You can watch it happen as your num lock lite and an optical mouse lamp disappear. There's got to be away around that, I would think. Any suggestions? Thx Dave

Rats! I was just browsing the bios on a Dell M4600 that I had just received from eBay. Had no battery, only the AC adapter. Only thing I was doing was looking at the specs, cord came loose...kaput! Win + B + power method doesn't work. Trying the CMOS battery remove for 10 minutes now. Will update if works. Thankfully the mobo can be had for less that $20
I don't know if this would work.... Unplug the Laptop Hold the power button for at least 30 seconds. (System should try to power on and power off again while holding the Power button, but don't let it for at least 30 seconds). Once 30 seconds has gone by, release the power button... Plug it back in and try powering it back on with a simple click of the power button. I know this works when I've experienced a black screen and overactive fan in the past (but this was usually due to the system not being able to load properly or problems with the BCD. Not guaranteeing this would fix the BIOS issue, but if all else fails, it's worth a try!)\
My laptop has updated the bios and now it does not go beyond the "lenovo" startup logo, it does not let the bios or the recovery through the NOVO button, it helps
Hello Taraza, The answer is: It depends on the manufacturer and the model you have, the most recent your laptop/desktop is, the more likely will be to perform a "BIOS recovery process". For example, in the video I show an HP laptop. That model does not support a "conventional" Bios recovery process, in order to fix that laptop I need to either replace the Bios chip or replace the motherboard. Thanks for the comment!
My laptops nvidia 940mx got burnt while updating bios. Everything was good power and the conditions still it destroyed my GPU. Now i am using inbuilt intel hd 620. Bios update is shitty thing.
The method for BIOS recovery is different for the many manufacturers. Besides, if the methods do not work, most likely, it is because the motherboard suffered a severe damage and needs to be replaced. Now, in the video I intentionally messed up an HP laptop. Bios updates are somewhat questionable, sometimes they help support more or better things and help system stability and sometimes just causes system instability, i recommend looking at what the bios update adds before updating
In the specific Laptop model in the video, the way to fix it is to replace the motherboard. The reason is that the device is from 2012 and it does not support Bios recovery.
