In this masterful musical act, multi-instrumentalist Cosmo Sheldrake creates a symphony of sounds featuring the sun and British birds in collaboration with his own vocal assortment of beat-boxing and singing.
** There were some difficulties with the recording of the sound. We apologise if the quality is not always the best, but are confident that watching this video will nonetheless bring a smile to your face, and maybe even get you grooving along **
Cosmo Sheldrake is a master looper, multi instrumentalist, who played jazz and classical piano from the age of 4, and regularly performs on banjo, loop station, keyboards, double bass, drums, didgeridoo, penny whistle, sousaphone and more. An inspirational singer and improviser, he draws on numerous and disparate musical traditions from Mongolia to West Africa, blues to classical and folk to Balkan brass. Cosmo is a composer and a producer and has written music for film and theatre. Based in London and Brighton, he runs vocal improv and beatboxing workshops, youth empowerment and wilderness camps. He teaches workshops in schools and runs a regular community choir in brighton. He also sings and performs with his brother Merlin; both play with the Gentle Mystics, who released their debut album in 2011.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

Dude this is Rupert Sheldrake's son. That's so cute him and his dad both did tedxwhitechapel together! They are an insanely intellectual family.

He and his brother, Merlin, are *very fortunate individuals.* If *we all* could have been *as lucky* in regard to the *parents and learning and life opprotunities* we were born to or grown up under the guidance of the world would be in a *far more humane condition. :)*

I would love to see an animated or perhaps puppeteer-ed version of this with each of the types of owls singing their parts, I think it would be really cute and also informative on the types of owls used for the song!

I saw him perform live. It was tremendous. I’ve never seen a musician who is so naturally musical. He created two or three songs on the spot, improvisationally. He would put a sound on a loop, and then just go from there. Once, he wasn’t happy with how it started. He restarted the sound, and a whole different song came out. It brought out just how truly improvisational each one was. They were just as good as the rest of the show. It was a tiny venue, I watched from about 5 feet away. A very special night.
