Driving across a whole state, you go from desert/mountains gradually to what looks like a swampy rainforest at the end. Kinda hard to believe how massive TX really is.
From the plains of the Panhandle to the palm trees and beaches of the Rio Grande Valley, and from the Desert/Mountains of West Texas to the oak trees of the Hill Country and to the swampy rainforest of East Texas, yeah Texas has diverse climates and terrain.
Its amazing watching the terrain shift from mountainous desert in western Texas, dry scrub land, rolling prairie land, to heavily forested marshland in east Texas. Seeing this video only confirms that Texas is the transition state between the Southwest to Deep South/East Coast.
I love that sign mileage sign a mile into Texas - El Paso 10, Beaumont 852, speaks volumes. From that sign, you are actually closer to Beaumont, CALIFORNIA than Beaumont, Texas on I-10.
AT @58:00 with showing the fueling pump rattling off the gallons in a rapid pace, that was a nice touch. And just like all your earlier videos, the music bed with this is nice!
twice the speed of an airliner and it still takes forever - i live in san antonio, so i've never driven the entire length at once, but i know every inch of this road - especially between here and el paso... nothing beats high speed desert drivin..
Texas has 9 Eco Zones which are all geographically different. She crosses 4 of these zones first being the western desert through central stepps/ hill country then southern prairie and finally south east marsh lands. Texas changes depending on where you’re at and each region is different from the next.
I drove from Austin to San Diego in 29 hours. Slept for 4 hours and rested when I needed to or felt like it. I was young 23yrs old or something like that.
I plan on doing this drive someday so I wanted to ask a question, which is the better direction to drive this road the whole way, eastbound or westbound?
Ah, got it. I though maybe it was a time lapse with photos. I want to try that if I can bring myself to make that brutal drive (only from Central TX though) for the umpteenth time. Thanks for the info!.
1:06:18 traffic jam in a 75 mph zone! the speed limit FINALLY goes up to 75 in Jefferson County and now suddenly traffic comes to a halt. No wonder TxDot officials in Beaumont want to lower the speed limit to 65 mph on I-10 in Jefferson County, therefore extending the 65 mph limit further east.
I-10 desperately needs to be SIX lanes btween Las Cruces, NM and El Paso. The NM portion already is 6 lanes, then narrows to 4. Only 5 miles into Texas is a major freeway interchange of I-10 and the mountain loop, yet after the loop merges onto I-10, I-10 remains only 4 lanes for another 5 miles. There is more than enough room in the median to pave a third lane in each direction.
Wow! So according to your time-lapse, you traveled 880 miles across the entire state in a video 70.866 minutes in length. After a little calculation, you'd be traveling at 745 MPH in this time-lapse, which is almost the speed of sound. Nice video!
If anyone wants to experience this long and tedious drive first hand, the best way to do this is to take a Greyhound bus from El Paso to Beaumont (or Deming, NM to Baton Rouge, LA if you don't want to miss the state line crossings) It takes about a full 24 hours and is one of the most boring drives you'll ever sit through, because outside of El Paso / San Antonio / Houston, you're traveling through the middle of nowhere.
Sierra Blanca MM 121, FT Stockton MM 267, Ozona MM 365, Sonora MM 400, Junction MM 455, Kerrville MM 482, SA MM 571, Converse MM 585, Waelder MM 668, Houston MM 769, ... Sabine River MM 880, WOW!
They have Bucees in Houston San Antonio and DFW or other state. I 10 in Texas run 881 miles. I like El Paso because they have a mountain and I like San Antonio because they have a river walk and towers of the America and I like Houston because they have a Minute Maid park and NASA space and more in Texas
