Hell yeah that was awesome! I and my family used to live in Tacoma and crossed the Narrows Bridge more than a few times; however, they were just starting to talk about building the second bridge when my family and I moved away from WA State so we didn't see it get built. My youngest son and his wife and our grandchildren live in Lakewood, WA - it wasn't surprising that he moved back; he was born there after all. :) Keep up the awesome videos! My husband and I enjoy them all; especially the WA ones that bring back a lot of good memories. :)
I used to live in Tacoma on the corner of 6th and Jackson. I was talking to another tenant in my apartment building and found out he was the supervisor of the bridge painting crew of the 1950 bridge. He offered to give me and my wife a tour of the bridge including a ride in an elevator that went to the top of the east or Tacoma side tower. I and my wife jumped at the offer. The view from the top was breathtaking. You could see over a hundred miles in each direction.
Awesomeness, all around. I-705 may be neatest short interstate in the country. Love the rebuild of the I-5/WA 16 interchange; I have not seen it since work began to rebuild the whole thing. Great job on this!
+FreewayBrent Thank you very much Brent, I have not seen the interchange prior to construction, but it looks like the whole complex of WA 16, I-5, and I-705 looks to be a lot better than it was and makes it easier to transition between the 3 freeways.
Excellent video, loved the bridge, the effect it gave going across- so I give it a HELL YEAH! Nice ride! Very nice ride! Always loved suspension bridges by the way... and those are two cool bridges! That is one road that has for years been on my bucket list!
When the music kicks in dad was like what u knw about this song.Goes to the garage rips off the car cover an a hefty 1970 dodge challenger 462 old mopar starts up Immediately hits a 107 miles an hour on the 1 10 highway hearing 100 bald eagles screaming down the highway🤣🤙
Hell Yeah, I saw the story of Galloping Gertie on TV pretty wild and now to see she's been replaced by a nice stable but foggy bridge, thanks for the ride as always
Great video Kyle (HELL YEAH!!)! Would have loved to see SR-16 eastbound from Gig Harbor to I-5 to see if WSDOT have finished the I-5/SR-16 interchange reconstruction. Having lived in that area before (Bremerton) August is the best time of the year. Thanks again and congratulations on another outstanding project!
Another excellent video Kyle! That is a short connector freeway! Really enjoyed the Tacoma Narrows portion! That was neat to see the fog laying in over the Sound as you crossed the bridge! Yet another 2 thumbs up from Iowa! Mark in Iowa. Keep them rolling in as you are able Friend. Mark.
Excellent video Kyle for the new span it permits lane changing just like the 101 fwy golden gate bridge, I-80 SF bay bridge I-95 George Washington Bridge, I-76 Walt Whitman Bridge I-676 Ben Franklin bridge I-295 Del Mem Br since their road decks are wide and it seems that Washington permits hov occupants to cross the white line for exits
No. They tore down the towers. The original bridge only carried two lanes of traffic. (One per direction), but each of the existing bridges carries four lanes of traffic. The original towers were too narrow.
Hey Kyle, I have a request: I was wondering if you can do a driving time-lapse with a Christmas song of Merry Christmas Everyone by Shaken Stevens. Could you do that for me please?
+Mountain West Highways The Eastbound bridge opened in 2007 to help ease the congestion on the bridge we went over in this video. That bridge has one extra lane. 2 lanes in each direction on the 1950 bridge was indeed a nightmare! The traffic problems are almost non existent today.
Nice vid. Really interesting freeways flanked by lots of pines. Yes, the foggy bridge was spectacular but a little annoying to have the video slowed to match the music. Often that doesn't work and especially crossing the bridge which would have been better with one graceful sweep down, on and across.
it's weird, I was playing this and the song hello by Adele was playing and I thougjt that was the song on your video but still had given it an awesome effect then I realised it was my brother playing it.
+Wildman The dislikes are all from one person, who is trolling the road filming community. The story is over Freewayjim and InterstateKyle's Road Warriors if you are interested in following the trend.
1940's design cross section |------------| | | This design is flawed due to steel plate girders catching wind causing to do torsional vibration. 1950's and 2007's design cross section |------------| X X This design allows wind to pass through without affecting the bridge girders.
