I love that you caught the moment the street lights turned on. Let there be light, indeed! And yikes at the guy leaning out of that car window with the camera taking pics or videos. One wrong move and it would be pretty awful.
Looks like that guy during 3:30 was filming a freeway video of his own and nice job on picking the local lanes instead! It’ll be interesting to see what the future reconstructed M-39/I-96 interchange will look like since it’s really getting up there in age. Anyways I really enjoyed the video! I always love seeing freeway videos in the Metro Detroit area
yeah, it'd be quite the rebuild when they ever get around to tackling it. The interchanges along the I94 corridor will probably be pretty cool once they finally get to those as well.
The segment of I-96 from the start of the video to the massive I-275/I-696/M-5 interchange opened in 1957, but was signed as US-16. It became signed as I-96 around 1959 or 1960, and US-16 was decommissioned in 1962. Of course, that interchange did not exist in 1957, it first became an simple interchange in 1963 when I-696 was built, and then in 1976 it became huge when I-275 was built. Then in 1994 the Haggerty Connector, or M-5 freeway was opened, making the interchange even bigger. The segment of I-96 that is overlapped with I-275 was opened in late 1976.
Nice to see another Detroit driving video. Must've been during some automotive festival. Smart for taking the i96 local lanes instead of the express lane during the construction. They're planning on expanding i75 north of i696 to 4 lanes next month, speaking of which maybe a i75 north towards Downtown would also be cool now that construction of that is finally done.
Thanks for the memories back home being gone since 1987. Was there in 2011 and main drags are like driving on a washboard. People will slam into you ther and not give a fuuuuccckk😁
5:34 Where Davison Avenue turns off the local lanes was supposed to be another freeway: the Davison Freeway, which would have run through Highland Park and meet another freeway coming off of I-94 that would run into Warren and Sterling Heights where it would link up with the existing M-53 freeway. And I see Michigan doesn't use blue signs for its freeway collectors the way Ontario does.
That Davison Freeway extension would have been very useful in my opinion. I prefer Ontario's approach to colour coding the collector lane signage over that of the US. I find it way clearer to identify the sign than how the US signs their roads.
I-96 have the same type of express lanes through Detroit as Dan Ryan Expressway in southern Chicago (I-90/I-94) and two separate express lanes in Ontario Highway 401 through the GTA. 5:04 During that time heading back to Toronto, why was there traffic in the express lanes of I-96?
Nice ride- and a question- did you film the Ambassador Bridge as well? Asking cause I have been on it years ago- and always liked it- nice ride going into Detroit via 96, have been on that and 94 as well in Michigan- so nice to see the highways upgraded- especially the area near the Ambassador Bridge! Nice ride!
i think the guy in the red car was filming something for the white car in front of them. Both of those cars were performance model Mitsubishi’s (the white being an Lancer-EVO and the red being an Eclipse) and they were driving together. Probably explains the dude sticking out of the car haha
Nice to see the Ambassador bridge at the end. I'm not familiar with the area around it so I wanted to see what it looked like driving up to it since it's been in the news quite a bit this month (Feb 2022), any plans to film the drive up to the bridge from the Canadian side?
I bought mine used from an online classified site. Sometimes people sell things for good prices that way. The only thing I’d say about using a ‘real’ camera is that the footage needs to be graded in your video editing software before it gets uploaded. Just me 2 cents

the guy in the red car and the white car in front of him were together. Those cars are really nice Mitsubishi’s (the white being an EVO, red being one of the higher trim Eclipses) so i think the red car was filming the EVO for something.
