Beyond the fact that this music/movie is absolutely stunning, does any musician noticed that this music was composed on a tempo of 60 bpm ? Like minutes, seconds ! Time. I'm sure this was intentional. Like the fact that the ship is made like a clock, 12 parts, turning ... Hans Zimmer, Christopher Nolan, you fucking geniuses. Best movie ever.
I noticed that and I'm not a musician. It's a ticking clock because time is such a big part of the movie. We're kind of used to hearing a tick tick tick sound when we're stressed or pressured, so this music fits perfectly. There is also the imagery of the spinning station that's like a clock. I love this music. And the pipe organ is haunting and beautiful at the same time. It also brings in sort of religious meaning for some people because most people hear the pipe organ in old churches. Altogether a very deep movie in both story, visuals, and music.
"There's something very human about it because it can only make a sound with air, and it needs to breathe. And on each note you hear the breath; you hear the exhale." - Hans Zimmer on the organ
SuperRedux Number 15: Docking Last thing you want when docking with the Endeavour, is Matt Damon blowing out an airlock. But it turns out that's what you might get.
Hans Zimmer going nuts with a brittish church organ, there is no way that wouldn't be so MINDBLOWING x3 This guy...will never stop blowing my mind and ears...
Stryke It's because of some other reasons, not really about being loud and epic. It covers the whole human hearing spectrum and allows you to produce many layers of music with just one person. This piece is really nice but organ use is quite simple in it.
that1dude0092 i kept searching and i didn't find any other movie that was as epic, intense and moving as interstellar, do you guys know any movies as awesome as this?
It has a sense of "human" to it, despite it being a sci-fi and out in space, Like Hans said, you get that from hearing each time the organ "breathes" out its notes and pitches. oh my god it gives me chills every time
Cooper: "Analyze the Endurance's spin" Amelia: "Cooper what are you doing?" Cooper: "Docking!" CASE: "Endurance's rotation is 67... 68 RPM" Cooper: "Okay get ready to match our spin with the retro thrusters" CASE: "It's not possible!" Cooper: "No... it's necessary"
+AustinTheWeird123 Cooper: CASE, Get ready to put on the parking sensors. CASE: It's not possible. We dont have parking sensors! Cooper: So, It's not necessary?
jkh301 no lol I took the AP Physics 1 midterm over the summer that's the exam I was talking about and yeah dont sweat it the average is usually that low even for the regular year.
***** or when the movie ends and you realized the soda you brought with you was untouched the whole movie. (that happened when I watched Pacific Rim, me and my mom realized we didn't take one sip of our drink)
Saw this in IMAX, can't remember any movie before or since where I refused to close my eyes for a whole sequence because I didn't want to miss seeing a single moment
the ending have just destroyed my brain. Tha was the most scientic scifi movie I have ever seen. And with one of best soundtracks I have ever listened. Hans Zimmer and Christopher Nolan, congrats. You have created masterpiece.
One of those pieces that just sends chills through you, toying with your emotions, eventually leaving you with a feeling of victory, or of smashing accomplishment. Brilliant.
Words fail to describe the stakes of what this scene represents. The improbability of the action being undertaken against the forces at play with zero margin for error. The very fact Cooper makes the decision so quickly is his only chance. As ridiculous as it is, there is no hesitation. In the most unforgiving of environments this is a hail Mary because no other options remain. To score such a scene, to capture it's essence so exquisitely leaves me speechless. HZ just seems to improve with every OST.
One of my top 3 favorite movies of all time and this song gives me the chills every time it comes on. What I would give to be back in the IMAX theatre listening to it again.

This song fits perfectly in the new Dunkirk movie If you watched it already just imagine it The feeling of urgency in the movie with this tempo Perfect
Cette musique... Ce film.... J'en ai des frissons à chaque écoute, quand je l'ai vu au cinéma j'ai voyagé pendant 3h La BO de ce film nous transporte dans un autre univers
I had no reason to be tearing up at this moment in the movie but the fact that humanity's existence in the movie was so dependent on an AI unit and human working together at that moment to Literally save the rest of humanity that it was almost poetic.
I just watched the live at Prague version of this song, and my god, every hair on my body stood on end and I teared up, I don't think music has ever done that to me.
Ooooooh Man! How could I have forgotten how BADASS this track (ney the entire Album) was……… My Stereo begs for mercy each time I put this album on!!!!….
When I get Star Citizen, I'm going to play this piece as I travel at light speed to another planet. Hopefully in a desperate attempt to aid one of my online buddy's.
I like Star Citizen's design way better. It's a personal preference. I want a great looking first person universe experience. The only game out there for that is Star Citizen. It's great to have other space games though. The more variety in the genre the better. It will only draw more people and help overall.
ASN Uhm..I'm sorry but Elite is getting an update sometime next year that allows for first person walking and multicrew. So everything you just described Star good to be as, Elite will have it all next year.
Yes but Elite is not Star Citizen and the same thing applies vice versa. Star Citizen has many things Elite doesn't and the same thing applies both ways. I prefer Star Citizen because to me it has far better visuals and game design with a skill based system and first person focus. Elite feels like a major grind with slow and not fun combat to me. Also Elite is not an mmo. Star Citizen is designated as such. Additionally Elite has no Singleplayer while Star Citizens Squadron 42 has one of the best game casts out there. Also Elite is far too procedural and empty. It's all preferences. Apples and Oranges.
If I have only 5 min till death , I will put on my ear phones and listen to this magnificent music and no this isn't a joke , then I'll die gracefully.....Hans Zimmer is God
When I saw the extras on the blu ray about Hans and the amazing organ player man the tears just rolled down my cheeks, I love Hans Zimmers work and I doff my cap to the organist.
Such an awesome song for the scene. Starting with a clock-like softly beating, then this explodes in making you feel the urgency of docking while spinning faster than 1rps.
When someone asks how big is this universe is, just play this music to them and let them decide how vast this music composition is and how deeper it is.
Music like this just makes me realize that science is a magnificent and glorious tool for the many, especially in the future up ahead. But that's what I believe, I LOVE SCIENCE!!
If you confuse science for a tool, you don't know sciene well enough. Read some philosophy of science my friend, some Heidegger if you'd be up for it ;)
I'm not saying science isn't a tool: of course it is an instrument as it can be used for a certain means to an end. But it constitutes an entire view of nature, knowledge, truth and brings a long certain values and is much more. I think maybe you're referring to technology more than to actual science? a lot of people don't give a shit about science and don't know science but still can pick it's fruits through technology's use of science. I recommended Heidegger because he proposes that science actually already uses a way of thinking that is essential to modern technology: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Question_Concerning_Technology There you go buddy, enjoy the great music :)
This is the feeling you get when you decide to pin it on a motorcycle in traffic. Once you throw caution to the wind like that, your instincts start screaming at you and your mind has to clench down to survive over body and fate. This is the sound of attempting to cheat imminent death.
This was an "F*** Yeah!" moment for me when I saw this the first time. Where else are you going to find a piece of music that has a pipe organ dishing out power chords!?!?
