Maria Chudnovsky is a professor in the department of mathematics at Princeton University. She grew up in Russia and Israel, studying at the Technion and received her Ph.D. in 2003 from Princeton under the supervision of Paul Seymour. She moved to Columbia after being a Clay Mathematics Institute research fellow and assistant professor at Princeton. Chudnovsky's contributions to graph theory include the proof of the strong perfect graph theorem with Robertson, Seymour and Thomas characterizing perfect graphs as being exactly the graphs with no odd induced cycles of length at least 5 or their complements. Other research contributions of Chudnovsky include co-authorship of the first polynomial time algorithm for recognizing perfect graphs and of a structural characterization of the claw-free graphs.

I don't know how to explain it, but something about her explanation about the process of discovery was profound to me. Maybe it's the look in her eyes that say "worth it".

I've seen her first in that NOVA documentary on mathematics. And then I saw her again when I searched for prominent female mathematicians. It's nice to have a prominent female mathematician role model as a girl who plans on pursuing mathematics.

Look into Danica McKellar, who played Winnie Cooper on the television series, The Wonder Years. She is a particularly well educated Mathematician with a number of honors for things that she helped develop.

She's very accomplished and brilliant and I'm not taking away from that but I find her incredibly beautiful, it makes me even that more immersed into what she has to say. I find listening and learning from her even better because of her beauty

How can she work day after day for years or even months on the same problem? Doesnt she get bored and distracted and depressed and want to do something else?

@@catsaresocute650 thats awesome!!!! I am very glad to hear it - i too have struggled at times and feeling even not capable of having compassion for yourself. I am very very happy to hear it - i too have struggled at times with not having compassion/being kind to oneself, and i can tell u that all the thoughts i used to have back then that were so destructive - were false. some days i think back to then and just feel in awe at how i was able to come to such a conclusions/feelings - it's all incredibly different/incomprehensible to my life now. with that said, glad ur doing better as i know u always can. feel free to reach out whenever - i dont know everything, but the little i know i would like to share with everyone
