Only two weeks to go 'til The 1975 play Auckland's Laneway Festival! Music 101's Charlotte Ryan spoke to frontman Matthew Healy about meeting Greta Thunberg, touring, and taking a DIY approach to music making.
and when she said “i dont know if you can relate to this feeling” i couldnt help my eyes 🙄 like not every bad thing you felt matty can relate pls enough with his experiences havent they got the answers already 😩😭
Matty is like all of us. Trying to be relevant while careful not to be cringy. He's so talented and everything he says can be sensed that it has come from careful thinking.
I have that look. It’s mainly a result of having no real sleep pattern, that’s the biggest factor for these artist having a crazy inconsistent schedule. Drugs do make a difference though, especially the following morning, expect to look fucked up.
U just have to admire this blokes ego...I’m always drawn to his interviews and he never disappoints!! His music is most definitely not for me but at least he talks about interesting things occasionally, which , like he says, literally no other mainstream pop artists do anymore, Good luck to him
I'm glad u like Maty's personality. But just out of curiosity, (Not an attack) what brought u to this interview? I only ask because u said his music is "definitely not for" you. You mentioned his interviews draw u in. I have to ask because I normally don't stick around an interview or search for musicians that I don't enjoy.
For me, when a artist conceptualizing ideas thats the peak of the creative point! Being relaxed and in a present vibe is key! Ive had ideas in the bath and just record into my phone whilst laying in a womb like environment! I love the idea of a studio bus! Chilling on the road feeling the vibe in motion. When ever ive had pro sessions in big studios I dnt believe Ive ever sounded as good. Just doing it when you feel it literally makes you perform better. Most artistic people are night people! The best work always gets done whilst the world sleeps. Love The 1975. See you in London in July guys.
The best work always gets done while the world sleeps? I know at least one multi-million album selling artist who will disagree with that! Damon Albarn only makes Gorrilaz and Blur and solo records between 10am and 6pm Monday to Friday!
@@mattiemclean9882 Sorry let me be specific, I've done my best work while the world sleeps! Also most people who I've met who are artistic are night people! I love Damon and Blur though!
@@Kellyjellycones78 Ive been in the music business for many many years as a working drummer. Sometimes with bands, sometimes with singers, sometimes producing ambient music. 95% of that work has been between 10am and 10pm as they are the hours most studios operate in (unless you want cheap down-time). Your comment said "The best work always gets done while the world is asleep." This simply isn't true You may have done your best work while the world sleeps but that's not what you said. Could you give an example of your best work? I'd love to hear it...
A couple of points, how can a band touring the world be 'eco-friendly' and how does it make sense for him to presumably fly to Stockholm for Greta Thunberg to be on the track?
The physical copies of their new album are going to be eco friendly, for their NOACF tour £1/$1 from each ticket goes to the organisation one tree planted, they have upcycled and sold all of their unsold merchandise in recent months. As for touring, maybe using more sustainable power sources or more eco friendly stage production? I'm not really sure on that one tbh
What?? Really? You think? I didn't pick up on that......at all. And neither did a single other person in the comments. Are you sure you're not............idk, wrong?
I'd say no, Just seems anxious and a lot going on with the focus being on this new album and all the date changes. He seems fine- just exhausted. Hope they don't over do it
Lmao a man that's been on tour with his band for months and is tired and your idiotic twat ass asks "Is He On DrUgS?" News flash, just because someone is and looks exhausted doesn't mean they're back on drugs. Grow up.
@Crystal Petruska speculating that he's on drugs is disrespectful regardless of his past. he has a close support system that hold him accountable and keep a close eye on him. He's been touring for well over a year whilst making their new album nonstop. Give him a break.
