Here's the translation: Interviewer: Samu you are one of the coaches in the voice of Germany you told that it came quite surprisingly. Apparently you had a record deal to Germany before you had in Finland, how is that possible? Samu: Actually not originally... I: okay I have understood that you had first contact with German EMI? S:No we had in Finland this deal with bonnier music first which was a small label that has already quit the business. We basically had a deal with them to all nordic countries and with their assistance we found the european contacts, German EMI in 2006 back then it was quite exotic that a finnish band got succes even though there were the rasmus, HIM, Nightwish and others that had done it for quite a while, so that probably helped a bit to sell our thing. But we had our record and singles out in Finland first. I: How is your german? S:How is my german? well quite bad. I: You didn't learn it while filming? S: Not really. It's mostly about the competitors singing and you try to coach them. The coaching is mostly just telling them "Hey you can do it!" and "very good" and pat in the back. If someone can't sing in a competition like that... It's more just finding the right songs for them and how to make it interesting. Just the usual maximizing the entertainment but very much fun. I: How much do the coaches actually do? Do they just pick the songs or get involved in the styling etc. as well? Or are there some record company people telling there how to perform? S: Well basically I decide my own teams songs and how they are performed, I have a really good assistant coach who is there when I'm away like right now when I am here with you today. There is also an own vocal coach in every team and stylists and all. It's a good thing I don't decide what dresses they wear. Even though many of them are already touring artists like cover singers or have own bands it's like don't try to copy Alanis Morrisette and make it your own thing. Some of them get it some don't. I get a lot of energy seeing how much some of them develop. It's a big chance and some of them when they get eliminated they curse me to hell and tell how shit we all are and that we don't understand and some are thankful for the journey so far. After all only one can win from the 7000 people who actually take part in it. I: what is the most interesting situation you have been in because of the fact you don't speak german very well? S: Well those moments in battle situations when two sing and only one goes through and you have been helping them both and made them believe in their thing and you just need to send the other one home even though you have said that hey were going to the finals and you can do it! I: Is this kind of like the survivor thing that you've promised to take everyone to the final and you just betray them one by one? S: well that was quite a brutal way to say it but then you just try to say very nicely and warmly to say something in german and you say something you think is very serious and clever and then the whole arena starts to laugh. Because I don't always know what you can translate straight from english to german like underdog is it underhunt (sorry I don't know how to write it I don't speak any german) then they don't say it like that and they wonder like "what dogs?" it may sound a bit silly. I: I understand what you mean with this... S: Everytime it happens the tv crew gives me thumbs up like they want more of that so it's probably funny but it's the feeling when you don't realize why people are laughing when you try to be serious and say something nice. I:your german teacher is very much in love with Finland why is that? S: Yeah when Dirk flew here to live in the Klaus K hotel in august and the weather was really beautiful. He had an thought that there are many technical engineers and ice hockey players here and that people ski. I: but that's exactly how it is! S: Yeah well he came from this really wealthy, beautiful area from Munchen and he was totally shocked how it is here that all the woman are so freaking beautiful (as a finnish girl I say Dirk is a very smart man lol) he's a bachelor in his thirties... I: right right S: ...everyone goes jogging, amazing restaurants what an awesome place. We were just driving around southern Finland. We talked about finnish soccer and Nokia business. He fell completely in love with Finland, he just keeps saying how cool this place is. I: Did this surprise you? Because when you live here... the finnish mentality is well this is just like this nothing special. S: Well I don't know. I think it's same with every place if you stay long in switzerland, the first week is like "what a lovely mountains" and then eventually the mountains start to annoy you because you have to go around them when you go to the town so I don't know... Finland is clearly the best place on earth, for real. There are good and bad things in every place. Maybe the third week of august when it's +26 celsius degrees outside even at night and everyone goes jogging and just looks beautiful and you go to Tomi Björck's restaurants you maybe don't get the "regular" picture of Finland but this is a great place we should be proud. I: What did you get out of the voice of germany except for the basics of german language? S: When it ends around christmas just the experience and feeling of survival. the first day I sat on the chair I didn't understand anything of the briefings, I was just thinking that I definetly shouldn't be sitting here that I need to get home from here quickly is there a way to escape this. Few months from that the feeling of survival. So far so good still have the live shows ahead.Great experience and a break from my own life and career. New people and experiences. I:I must say I am quite disappointed that you have a german teacher I wish they just told you to watch plenty of marienhoff. S: I did.. I:you did? S: I sat on the hotel all afternoon watching german shows. They are actually quite entertaining. I: do they dub foreign shows in Germany btw? S: Yes they are.. It's extremely annoying if you're in a hotel room and you see that there's mission impossible 2 coming and then there Tom Cruise speaks with an fluent Munchen accent it's a bit lame but that's how they do it. I: Sunrise Avenue is doing well in Germany you're probably more known there than here or am I completely wrong? S: I don't know how known I'm here and how known I'm there I: When you go out can't you see if people come rip your clothes off or look at you wondering who he is? S: I don't know... I: Do you get recognized in Germany? S: Well yeah of course especially if we are there like for example in Hamburg having a gig and there's a lot of posters and stories, commercials and stuff but when we go abroad we don't really spend that much time in the town in public we usually arrive there the previous night and then you try to do some exercising and then the next day you go to the arena to play, you don't really spend time there. Naturally people recognize me on the stage (joke). I don't know how many recognize I think the less the better and how much more you get to concentrate on music the better. I: Sunrise Avenue has made a great career the starting point wasn't easy you have told that you had at one point 100,000 euros of loan. What is your financial situation like now and how much do you have loan? S: There's no loan anymore and they still accepted my credit card when I bought a cafe latte downstairs. I:What card do you have? S: I have a debit, it's really good because you can use it anywhere in the world. I: How much is there then? S: Well there is.. but it's not like... what the hell.. How much do you have? How big is your p*nis? ( lol samu.. he obiously said this in an joking manner) I: Do we talk in meters or in centimeters here? Depends on the weather let's say it like this now that it's a bit colder... S: I also always have quite cold weather if I'm with out my pants I: Yeah the same with me. Then he just thanks him for the interview. Phew that was long. I am finnish so I apologize for any grammatical errors :)
