Even if an independent candidate got 80% of the vote, he/she would still lose the election, because he/she would have next to zero electoral college votes. To answer Mr. Galloway's question as to why Israel would do something suicidal like attack Hezbollah, the reason is that Israel knows that US support is proportional to how desperate the Israelis claim to be. When it looks like Hezbollah is winning, the US will send even more weapons and money. And when it looks truly desperate and Israel is on the brink of losing huge amounts of illegally annexed territory and suffering a humiliating defeat, the US will get actively involved (most likely via an air/sea campaign against Hezbollah, but potentially with limited US ground support like artillery and spec ops) because "we can't let the terrorists win." It's not suicidal because they know with 100% certainty the US will bail them out one way or another.
