I feel like this is absolutely the dynamic of Vulfpeck: Everyone plays a bunch of stuff 'cause they're all great omni-talented musicians and love bouncing around but no one bothers trying to play bass because Joe Dart exists so why bother.
love watching him say that he hopes heartbreak hits will be someone's 'thing' one day and it's literally become my whole brand since last year i love this man and his songs sm
after seeing this interview i can say for sure that theo is the most humble and honest man alive. and maybe one of the best musicians ever. loved the interview, the vibes were just awesome. thank you so much!
that whole idea of catharsis is what i love about this album: sure, there are songs that'll have you crying on public transport (lookin at u, good to be alone), but there's always an absolute bop right around the corner to pick you up. it's definitely helped me through all stages of getting over someone and it's so well balanced; the mix of sounds and styles is v fun & fresh and i love it a whole lot! not least bc i'm also a denim bro tank guy. (also good job allegra! #ginger4lyf)
this is the most inspiring interview i've ever watched. Life changing words right here. Thank you for your awesomeness (both of yous) and god bless the Vulf!
So true about scenes. A group of friends working for one another will always be greater than the sum of the individual parts. Music is a cooperative activity. It's so much more enjoyable to share making it with friends.
dang you really know your shit and you're definitely interviewing the right cats, great personality and pretty adorable to boot. got yourself a big fan, keep up the good work
Hey Theo would you consider releasing the notation for the drums on El Chepe? I've been trying to figure out the hi hat but can't wrap my head around it. I'll name my next kid Theo if you do. Thanks and much love.
Where's the outtake footage of Theo's COMPLETE skirt-steak-strangulation-early-20s-Robert-Plant-style-singing impression?? #RipCordCut And thanks for the Emily King rec! I stopped what I was doing (watching this interview) and discovered her.
Theo, the way you described Ingrid Michealson is the way I describe Stephen Bishop live.. if you haven't checked him out .. do it .. you guys are brothers of different mothers!
SuperSaltyFries - Damn. You got it spot on! Hyde & very early Elton John. Like the Honky Chateau cover. Or the pic he chose for Greatest Hits 1970-2002...
2:58 I can't believe he also says "Fender bass" every time. He's been corrupted by Jack! EDIT: also, he says "like" so much, it's almost hard to focus on what he's actually saying
10:40 hahaha, reminds me of when I had to take classical piano lessons in 1st year of Conservatory. I'm an audio engineer student and a guitarist, but classical piano was probably the worst thing I ever went through. Then I found out about Vulf some time ago and I picked the piano back up and writing songs on it. If only the Conservatory would just send production students to pop piano lessons it would have been so much more useful instead of that "drag" that Theo is talking about here.
Got almost the exact same story. Wanted to play music, got put in front of a piano, and thought the layout of the keyboard and sheet music was the most illogical thing ever. Then I played rock guitar, and 10 years later I too am writing sheet music and relearning piano, just because I understand how it's cool and useful to me. All those kids who play a classical instrument when they're young and then just drop everything as they grow up... Imagine if even a cello or trombone student learned to just play the melody of their favourite song first, instead of twinkle twinkle little star. Build from the foundation that's already there, so the house doesn't just blow away with the first breeze
