It's true they respect the foreigners and tourists in the Philippines. That's one good thing about the Philippines. And it's easy to communicate with them because almost everyone can speak English 🤗👍
When I was living in Turkey while in the military, I said the same thing that you go back in time and things slow down. I look at my future retirement in Phillipines as a combination of some new technology and some old technology. Having today's retirement from the west and going back in time approximately 80 yrs.
I have been listening to Calvin for over a year know and he is the best RU-vidr in the Philippines. I listen to Calvin as he is brutally honest. Just subscribed to your channel Alex. Greetings from Toronto.
I'm looking for tips. My family of 4 is looking into moving in the Philippines. We're tired of the living here in the US. Cost of living, violence, dry condition, and people that don't give a F! Mind you that I actually live in a nice city and yet still feel this way. We want something new.
Have you been here or know anything about our country. I would start with that first, you might not like it, to each is own. I'm leaving too next month, just sold my house and finally retiring early. If your young still in the 40s or below, I suggest get your finances in order and have some side hustle income in the states.
@@jetd9716 which country you talking about, Philippines or US? I was born and raised in the Philippines, didn't move to the US till I was 11yrs old. I'm 35 now and I was just back home month ago. Im Thinking of opening a business and I'm somewhat financially stable with just student loan in my way. Soo yeah...
@@A-do-bo Oh ok John I know how you feel, I am in the same boat I currently live in Phoenix but born in P.i and just sold my house to retire there next month. Not sure what tip your looking for, I am not an expert (lol) in the P.I living as I've not live there for the last 30 years but in terms of business there, I know people close to me who have done well operating a mobile BBQ manok or Baboy francise or a washing machine biz taking in 15-30K pesos a mo. and initial investment is not much @ $10K US. Also, once you get to P.I network with like minded business people as they have tons of ideas to share, P.I is active and has great support for small biz operators, the gov't runs a qtr biz faire in and around the islands called "NEGOSIO" the helps new biz enterpreuners hit the ground running. For you look like you are still along ways from collecting SS so you definitely need to get a biz going in order to survive there unless you have $$$ reserved to last till you get to 62 yrs old. I kinda went around from running a biz there and instead established a biz here that will support me while I live there in P.I. GL!
@@jetd9716 lol. Yeah I'm in Cali and still have long ways till retirement unfortunately. But I figure I need some sort of income even tho it's not much. My wife on the other hand is very successful with her career and I hope she finds something that'll allow her to work overseas (p.i). Thanks and happy retirement!
Sir calvin i humbly and so proud of you i hope you and your family stay as strong with love and respect filipinos are so caring it does'nt matter you are black or white we respect you as long you return that respect to us thanks so much
The thing with Filipinos in general, when you show us respect and love, we give it back. We do not discriminate a whole race based on mere stereotypes. You show us respect, we give it back to you. As simple as that. We definitely respect our elders and the elderly and women are old fashioned to some respect. I myself believe in a patriarchal society but that doesn't make us weak because of that mentality. Men to me, are supposed to make a living, while women should help raise the children and the household but it doesn't mean we have to quit our jobs to serve our husband hand and foot. We value our independence also. So balance is key... . This has been a very interesting interview. I enjoyed watching it..
@Jenny - That's Not 🚫 totally True! Respect!🙄 It has nothing to do with that because many that are respectful to Filipino are treated poorly just like many Filipino abroad in the middle east or other countries may be being treated poorly by the locals there despite their respecting them to the highest degree. Everyone on these vlogs wants to make Filipino As a Whole seem flawless and words like "Honest" and "Hardworking" are used, what a JoKe 🤣🤣🤣 are most Taxi driver's in Manila not Filipino? Are Carpenters not Filipino? There are people that do wrong everywhere including the Philippines. All one must do is really be Truthful about the injustice discrimination and hatred that goes on in many places in the world and especially as well in the Philippines. Respect is always a word used that even many racist have used currently and in years past. Say that you personally haven't experienced it doesn't mean it's not happening! And yes i know of experiences of what some might call less fortunate Filipino that have been discriminated against by other Filipino! Two many examples to list here, many that are personal!
@Jenny - Generally speaking I agree with your statement about your respecting your Filipino elders! But Not 🚫 all elders especially those that are Foreigners and definitely not those of a darker complexion especially Africans and maybe Indians as well.
So many Americans cannot live with their Social Security income in the U.S. when they retire. A very sad truth. Filipinos whose income come from SS usually go back to the Philippines when they retire.
I have the rest of my life to choose whether I want to live in America or the Philippines I'm only 27 but so far I love it here in the United States of America and good old Sweet Home Alabama...... It takes a lot to move to a whole another country that you can't protect yourself in but I don't discourage anybody else that decides to do that I just don't know if I'm ready for that yet... But I'll be there to visit in July to see my girl friend
Great Channel and loved the interview. This has been the most informative channel I have seen on moving to the Phillippines and what I can reeally expect once there. Thanx for the great information !!!
I agree with you sir!! I just save bit of money from here thermi will decide to buy a small land there to rest. Here its nonstop working just for bills!!!🤦🏻♀️
Greetings from city of champions Massillon Ohio Ohio great state to live in very cheap place to stay lots jobs here. In Ohio Employers hurting for help come to Ohio to live
Show us more interviews of Americans living in Philippines from different places. Your interview with the black guy was good and very informative. What city he's staying?
@@Livingabroadalex maybe Americans are just shy, I married one and he hates camera but he has a good heart and you can approach him anytime if you needed help.
Wow I kind of understand how your guest Sunshine Shoulders feel. I work in the financial services too. Not exactly in sales like an insurance agent or financial advisor but still it can be a very grinding type of work. I guess it really depends what state you live in because I honestly would have a hard time leaving Hawaii even for another State so I was surprised but at the same time I have never been or live in his state of Kentucky to compare it to the Philippines. I think one thing that entices me to try other countries is the cost of living and having my $$ stretch while having the opportunity to experience something completely different in the process. I’m sure if I were to become a digital nomad I would like to come back home to Hawaii as there would be too many things I would miss especially the food. I was reading your older replies on the comment section that you would like to try Norway one day but the budget is not there yet but would you consider Eastern Europe once the war in Ukraine kind of ends? I watched videos that countries like Poland and Lithuania can be very affordable at value too.
I didn't bother to listen to Calvin. I've heard reasons before when I have coffee with some expats here. We are a fairly large family and we grew up in mixed neighborhoods. Yeah, even the government housing projects. I have fond memories of that period.
Calvin what is your Last name the Black Guy? And i just wondering Where u from united states.. I personal thanking to you for Good words in my country .. God Bless u and your Family !
The reason many people want to go to first world countries is to make money, you guys where bless to be born in those countries with the opportunities to achieve greatness and also the powerful passports
Great Interview. And i can see a lot of reasons to move to the Philippines. Especially that the women are still women. I don't know how this all happend in the west and how it changed to the worse. Also no woke bullshit in the Philippines.
People from 3rd world countries migrate to western countries because they think the societies over there are more superior and secured. Also, they think the gov't gonna take care of them. However, these are not realities anymore in western countries. Western governments are messed up. The moral fiber in western societies is erroding. Now, if you're a local in the Philippines, the work environment is also a rat race for us. This is another reason why we try to move to a western country because we can accept the rat race, as long as we're compensated. Wages in the Philippines is not enough! Just wondering, why when expats or foreigners go to the Philippines, the topic of women is always being asked? Imagine me being asian going to France or Italy, being asked by a youtuber what do I think about the French or Italian women. Whatever answer I give, whether favorable or not, I would get accused either as an asian pervert, having an outdated view on women or even a anti-feminist. Besides, I thought only biologists & medical practioners are allowed to define a woman???😂😂😂
I would probably not choose to live forever in US or Europe. My country is a place where many people wanted to settle for good. I have been and visited different foreign country and even experience the life how to survive in a rich country here in Europe for more than 36 years now and I know what I am talking about.
I moved here over 5 years ago. I have a wife, son, business and opportunity here in the Philippines. I feel the same as Calvin. I will never live in the USA again.
Great video and interview! I'm already a subscriber to Sunshine Shoulders. Based on your next topic for your up coming video, you need to play that Rod Stewart song, "Da Ya Think I'm Sexy".
@@Livingabroadalex, Bro, I think this interview is going to pay big dividends to your channel. Stand back and watch, somehow, Calvin has that magical effect on RU-vid Philippines viewers.
I look at it, Americans live like microwaves, and want everything quick, fast, and convenient, Filipinos live like a grill, slow and steady, and in the end, the food will taste better :D,it will take time to cook but it will be tasty.
@@calroach1 hey Calvin,, is that 4 hrs north of Manila? not Dumaguete right? or is this another San Carlos ? Looked like you both were in Ayala Mall in Cebu ? doing the interview... great chat by the way.. Love your attitude and honesty..much respect .
I love the way you ask the openion of other foreign why they choose to expat or visit the Philipines cuz I can relate basenon their experience and adjustments being here in the philippines
Living Abroad. So glad that you being our Canadian brother you are able to tell the story too. I give Canada much respect and honor. I lived before in my life station at Grand Fork Air Force Base, North Dakota. I regret not going to Winnipeg. I just subscribed to your channel. Excellent interview with Calvin. My age is 59 now, looking forward to retiring in the Philippines one day soon in a couple of years. I was stationed at Clark Air Base, Philippines back in the day in 1991. Once again continued blessings on your channel From US American Air Force Security Police Military veteran and past resident of Philippines.
I salute you sir, former US Navy Specialist here in Japan. Same as me, cant wait to go vacation overseas again since COVID hit. Hello from Saga, Japan. Originally from San Antonio, Texas.😄🗾✌️
The questions you asked Calvin were actually good as they were helpful for foreigners considering to move to the Philippines. Calvin's perspectives and perception of life and living life in the Philippines are really praiseworthy. I can tell that he is a wise man. One of the wisest man I heard from RU-vid. Thank you Alex.
For someone who's lived in both countries, in my opinion the difference between two country could be easily summed up by collectivism vs. individualism. These two practices is what shaped the attitudes of each countries citizens, and it's easily recognizable the second you step foot in both countries.
Human beings whether Filipino or others discriminate as groups as well as individuals so that's only applicable in certain instances. It's party why you don't see certain people's openly accepted in many places in the Philippines.
As far as I can remember, when there is a visitor in our house, my late grandma always tells me to buy a soft drink and some bread to offer to the visitor. When we are broke, we just buy some bread and mix some orange juice powder on cold water then serve it to the visitor. When some stranger who comes from manila or somewhere wants to use our toilet, we always let them use it. I live now in the middle east with my family and I feel nostalgic
Not just the best place for retiring, probably move while ur still able and still active, foreigners should invest in the business industry to produce more jobs for the locals as well as some foreigners who chooses to live and stay....not exploiting our youth, abuse them just because they lack education and the extreme poverty, dont take advantage of them just because they are too respectful and too shy, i think u yourself experienced how we treat foreigners and fellow filipino's, we are very loving, friendly and caring people
@@Livingabroadalex thank u, like any other country there's some positive and negative side of each...as long as people respect the culture of each country they go to...speaking for my fellow countrymen, we always welcome each and everyone here with open arms..so nice of u to interview fellow foreigners who visit here and some are already living here for good, different but good content, keep it up... God bless u and ur family 🙏❤😊
with that positive attitude this guy can live anywhere in the world ...... but I'm glad he found peace, love & happiness in my country ....... good luck to you channel man ...... mabuhay !!!!!!!!
@@Livingabroadalex ..... hey man, since you're a canadian ...... you should meet up kulas & interview him ...... he's the most famous canadian vlogger in the philippines ..... he's just built a beach house in davao area ...... he has channel called "becoming filipino" .....
I hear a lot of people here talking about racism in the country where they're from and why they would like to move to the Philippines. I get that. I'm Filipino American living in San Diego California. have i experienced racism here in the US? Yes i have. Did it stop me from living my life? Hell no. Fight back. Don't let anyone step on you. You see the problem nowadays is people all over the world especially in highly industrialized countries like the West( US, Canada, Australia, UK, Europe, etc) is that everyone is so highly sensitive, underinformed and is full of hatred. Both sides of the political spectrum are no longer listening to each other and both are so manipulative. I blame the media and the governments for this.
I love this interview I love how Calvin’s talked about his exp here in the Philippines. More power to ur channel and enjoy ur stay here in the Philippines 🫰🏻
Yes I agree his telling the truth I when I'm going to retire I wanna apply dual citizenship I missed my country the last time that I went home year 2004 when I sent my mom home I do I missed Philippines 🇵🇭
Hi Calvin, Just by watching a few of your videos you seem to be genuine. I wish you the best in your new life many blessings fall on you. Being a good role model, and loving those beautiful people right back. God bless
I am a follower of Sunshine Shoulders for almost two years now. Brother Calvin inspires me in so many ways. I am from South Africa 🇿🇦 and that day I bumped into Sunshine Shoulders on RU-vid, I never left, that's the day I was touched by the channel and eversince, I have been flowing with the streams of Sunshine Shoulders throughout the times. It's good to see you interviewing him here in your channel, that has now made me your subscriber. Keep well
@@Livingabroadalex Thank you so much Alex. I look forward to seeing more of your vlogs and your viewer subscription growing into millions. Stay blessed brother 🙌🙏
I used to watch him as well but he treats filipinas aa second rate women and see them as someone he can manipulate that would always lay down for him. He encourage other expats to come to the philippines to grab as many women as they can. Borderlime predator, bragging how many filipina he slept with or dated. He cant do that in the US so he goes to the philippines preying on poor gullible women.
Hi, Sir Alex new subscriber here. Sir Calvin is telling the truth. Proven that his been living here for many years . Good job for this vlog, keep it up! God bless❤️🇵🇭
Yes he is telling the truth.as long as you show you are friendly to the filipino you will see to yourself how filipino will interact. We are hospitable and and easy to approach.
If you have money to retire in the Philippines, the place is better than the US, Filipinos come to the US to earn a living, save and once ready to retire then we move back home and live a comfortable life.
am with you, me i dont wamt also to live in america for me its better to lived here in the philippines coz more freedom and simple life specially if you live in the province
