Interview with rock band Ace Monroe in Dallas, TX before their show at Ruins in Deep Ellum on May 31, 2024.
Whoever said rock ’n’ roll was dead had yet to hear Ace Monroe. The quintet from Nashville, TN proves that rock ’n’ roll is alive and well, and they do so one soulful, gritty riff at a time.
With their influences ranging from the Rolling Stones to Lynard Skynard to Motown classics, the band’s sound is a melting pot of styles blended together to create a unique sound of their own.
Consisting of vocalist Robbie Dylan, lead guitarist Josh Alfano, rhythm guitarist/backing vocals Jack Kaiser, bassist Erik McIntyre, and drummer Jonathan Tatooles, the first unofficial jam session happened in a college dorm room between Tatooles and Alfano, with Kaiser as the lone audience member. He knew immediately that whatever was forming, he wanted in on and joined the band. Next to join up was Dylan, who was recommended by a mutual friend, and finally, after answering a Facebook ad and being put to the test through various meetings and rehearsals, McIntyre was added to complete their ensemble.
Their debut LP, Shelter in Place, was recorded in 3 months on weekends in Alfano’s apartment and was released in 2022. They followed that up with the self-titled album Ace Monroe in 2023.
