Thank you for posting this. I would not have known of this artist. This is a very honest interview. He has his own style yet is part of a visual language. The video has a nice edit quality of sitting interview, artist working in his studio also some street seen mixed in. The content of his words says much for the quality of his artistic pursuit as he explains what he can regarding his expressive approach that is of a school of thought actually, coming from so called primitivism and modern art abstraction as is automatic art making of an expressionist.

His work is beautiful and strong for me. I read it , look deeply pick up a vibe ( over the internet) . Personally, what ever makes him happy to talk about… I don’t look at color of person I look at color of painting which is beautiful

Art is about culture. Nice to look at the artist while doing some painting. Like his artistic expressions. You are right spiritually is not connected with words, it is inside, in real content. Love the explanation and relation with the exhibition’s title. “Crossover”

When I first saw this guy...that is, before he had even opened up his mouth...all I saw was 'a person of colour'...a 'black' artist...how, truly, strange a thing is that...?! Then, he started to speak...; and, instantly, I recognized his English voice...not American English/but, British English...more specifically, London English, just like myself...; and, right away, I felt a really strong 'connection' to a fellow artist like myself. Then, as he went and gently explained his art...it all made 'perfect' sense to me...and, I realized this is not another completely crazy artist guy; but, he's actually intelligent, clear minded, perfectly logical, in fact. It made me want to hear/see/understand more about him/his life and culture/too, creative thinking process. So Glad someone decided to go and create this video. -Thanks, your efforts are much appreciated. ;-)

@@tonisumblin2719 The way we are brought up...mostly, watching TV...but, also, viewing other media...radio, newspapers, magazines/-etc. It all serves to 'indoctrinate' our minds; so that we can't 'see/think/feel/behave' like an 'individual', anymore; and, many of the people who do both own and control these various popular media...are, frequently, very highly prejudiced themselves..which, unconsciously, serves to colour our own judgement...whether we like it or not/or, indeed, are 'aware' of it or not. It's why big companies who can 'afford' it...like to invest in the sheer power of 'mass media' marketing/advertising. So, that when you go walk into a shop...you find yourself totally ignoring...all other 'unknown/unbranded' products/(which are, often, far 'cheaper' to go buy)...and, instead, do end up buying the more 'expensive'...Pepsi/and, Heinz baked beans...Gola/Addidas/-etc.; all because you feel you were already very highly 'familiar' with such stuff...; and, so, it's like seeing/and, meeting up with a member of your own 'close' family; naturally, one ends up gravitating towards the things/people who we most tend to know...; than, having anything to do with total strangers/or, strange things who we don't even know, yet...? I recall watching a TV documentary, once...where they showed a classroom of 'coloured' teenage school kids, guys...photos of 'mixed race' girls...asking them to select who was the most beautiful; and, they nearly all selected the 'white' ones...; in preference to people of their own 'colour'. It's all to do with mass media 'brain washing'. I suppose, that all makes sense...when, mostly what we see is only 'white' people are meant to be civilised/and, everyone else is nothing but 'a filthy foreigner'/a 'born savage'/otherwise, are categorised as being 'criminals'. ----- We actually have to fight back really 'hard' in order to be able to recover what is our own mind/and, hearts...and, deep down internal mental programming...programming served up to us even as small pre-school kids...the 'white' Cinderella/'white' Snow White/'white' Jesus Christ/and, mother Mary/-etc. Everything telling us 'white is right'/and, everything and everybody else is all 'wrong'...! All saints/angels are 'white'...therefore, it's a 'whites only' club...if you're coloured you can totally and completely forget it...because, you are NOT allowed in. (I was brought up strictly Roman Catholic Christian.) ----- When I was younger...I would save up all the money I had...to go and buy a £100.00 Gucci t-shirt/or, £200.00 Gucci shoes...from Bond Street (the most 'expensive' street in the whole of London); and, would come away feeling really very 'proud' of what I'd just gone and done. Now-a-days, I've very slowly come to realize...that Gucci is already a rich family...consisting of muiti-millionaires...; and, so, there is no point at all me giving all of my money to them to make them even far richer still...while I myself do remain poor...after having given away all of the money I have...thus, leaving me totally flat broke...but, nevertheless, looking good on the 'outside' wearing Gucci! The truth is, it's all 'show'...whereas, in reality, I'm broke! Now-a-days, i go into stores...and, buy 'unbranded/or, far less well known' products...which do cost merely a fraction of the price of buying what is an authentic Gucci piece; and, frankly, I've no regrets...as I still have plenty of money left behind to go and buy other things, as well. But, I'm not going to lie...and, say, I never buy 'branded' products...if it's going 'cheap'/or, on sale...I will prefer buying the 'branded' product...over what is unbranded. As it seems to give me street cred...at least, in other people's eyes...namely, he's wearing Addidas/or,.../-etc.

I'm sorry to say this. But why does it always come down to race stuff. Just to sell your artwork. It's like a excuse to promote stuff now.

I have to agree. He has pictures of big black figures in them. So it is clearly about heritage with this artist. He has painted the figures literally ivory black, not even a skin tone, just ivory black which is political rather than realistic. You should not be sorry for stating this because it is a clear case of using wokism to get relevance.
@jeffreyolson2139
@jeffreyolson2139 2 года назад
Really? This is a black man making art based on his experiences & feelings, so that shouldn't in any way be influenced by his heritage? Are you offended that he depicts black people? Did you even bother to listen to his thoughtful explanations & insights? It sounds like you might be the one making it about race! Then you're saying he depicts what he does just to sell artwork? How do you know this? Too bad reality is so uncomfortable for you & yes, you should be sorry!!

@@strictlyyoutube6881 what a pathetic & toxic comment! Are you offended that the artist paints "big black figures"? And why is that automatically political? Not the real skin color huh, it's called abstraction! Did you even bother to watch the whole video? I seriously doubt it, because you comments don't reflect it. Should any artist not be influenced by their background/environment or heritage. Again, does that offend you? Or are you a scared little man because you feel so powerless & insignificant? I came on here for the art & to learn what the artist feels & has to say about his influences & message if there is any. Instead, I can't even get away from the less than subtle bigotry here. So, do us all a favor & crawl back in your hole, please.

@@jeffreyolson2139 Don't talk wet. It is just to sell his art. And if you can't see that, than you are blind. It does not matter what nonesense you write. That is what's going on here, playing the victim

@@neilsaxton109 thanks for clarifying your position, which is now beyond doubt. You didn't even have the courage to say what you really meant, instead, tiptoing around with the "sorry but..." schtick. Your self loathing & insecurity is obvious. You must feel very lost & insignificant in this world. It's okay that you are scared & confused & bitter, but it's embarrassing that you show up commenting on a video about a man's art & process & make & YOU try to make it about race with your insensitive, weak statement! You are a coward.
