One of the Greatest living Cellists!! Thank you that was very interesting. Please post more cello chat and playing.. Come back to Scotland UK when things get back to normal. I still remember Jian Wang performances in Edinburgh from late 1990s and more recently playing Bloch.
Very nice hearing a great performer speak about their musical ideas and how they connect them to everyday life. I agree about removing whatever masks we have when performing. I have heard one or maybe two others mention this as well. "If you have some hidden demons, they will come out in your playing." Something like Dvorak Concerto - this piece is really subtitled "A Hero's Life". Any good performance of it requires that the performer really feel it. Of course, it should come out of the instrument, as the soloist is the storyteller. Thank you for doing this insightful commentary.
lovely interview and information, thank you. The 1.5 year cycle makes a lot of sense and I really appreciate it the information about the bow hold, I will give it a try!
Thank you very much for unselfish sharing the experiences. You are one of my favorite cellist and your sound is most beautiful among the all the cellist’s nowadays in my opinion.
Thank you for such a precious interview. Your comments helped me a lot to understand cello itself as well as proper attitute that musicians need to have to be a better performer.
