Chris White missed having his name on the Brothers in Arms album that catapulted Dire Straits to another level of success, not to mention the extra money involved! Hal Lindes also missed out for the 'official' reason given by John Ilsley in his book, My Life in Dire Straits, Hal was inviting John & Mark to have dinner with himself & girlfriend but not the whole band... A crime punishable by being sacked from the band! It's more likely John, not wanting to cause any controversy or risk his friendship with Mark, gave this ridiculous reason - Mark liked the idea of having his mate, Jack Sonni in the band, so goodbye Hal - You can see the dynamics between Mark & Jack are a closer relationship. It's an odd choice given that Jack Sonni, in an interview a few years ago, said he went to see Dire Straits with a friend in 1979 and slept through most of it because he thought they were the most boring band he had ever seen... his friend elbowed him in the ribs at one point and said, 'you might want to listen to this one, they're playing Sultans'
