a misconception of outsiders or non native speaker is that silat is 1 single style, its not, there is no such thing as indonesian silat, malaysia silat, brunei silat etc ... silat basically means martial art, and there are thousands of style across south east asia, some similar to each other, some not. so i cringe when foreigners argue online about the difference between bersilat or penchak silat, there are no difference in the word itself, silat is silat, "ber" denotes a verb, and penchak is the style or flair, so different silat will have their own penchak, when you are doing silat you "bersilat". like maul said there are hundreds or registered style, but there are thousands of unregistered style.
@FMAPulse
@FMAPulse Месяц назад
That's some really good information. There's always an argument on correct spelling on "Penchak." We've seen it spelled "Penjak, Pencak," etc. When it comes to Western world they need a definitive meaning and answer to what a word translates to, even down to the correct spelling.
@eddsterfalconian
@eddsterfalconian Месяц назад
Wow "bersilat"? Cringe worthy. There are sooo many silat styles that it frustrated me. I learnt 3 styles in my youth. I'm pretty sure 2 of them were unregistered local styles.

As an Indonesian, I like studying Nusantaran cultures (maritime Southeast Asia) and I love seeing the similarities. I remember when I first saw FMA unarmed fighting and the first thing that came to my mind instantly was “ini koh kaya pencak silat sih? (Why does this look like Pencak Silat?)” Then I started looking into history and such of how Nusantarans fight and cultural and historical backgrounds. It’s funny to me how when the Philippines was choosing a Lingua Franca (common language) in the Philippines, a form of Malay (like the rest of Nusantara) was put as one of the candidates due to historical and regional reasons. If that had gone through in a different timeline then FMA would just have been considered another form of Pencak Silat and the Filipinos would be speaking a weird Spanish-English hybrid of Malay. 😂
@FMAPulse
@FMAPulse 8 месяцев назад
Definitely truth to what you're saying. Whatever disrupts the natural eco system of a culture, it adapts and mutates to what it is. Same thing with the Creole language which derived from French. The further away you get from the original source, it becomes something different based on external factors.

if you're trying to imply that silat is only good bcuz of wing chun then you're just delusional and ignorant. silat existed longer than wing chun, back in the days before it was known by its name today. besides, despite its flaws, silat is still miles better than wing chun as it also comes with sweeps and takedowns that are used along with striking techniques that it has.

Ask Maul if he remembers when he was exposed in BK , Thailand by a very qualified Martial Artist. Glad to say that many have seen the screenshots before Maul was able to erase them or use pathetic excuse.There is no doubt he is skillful and charming . So was Yuri Gellar

According to world leaders and world historians, all islands, mainlands, continents in Southeast Asia, chickens, cows, goats, and all animals belong to Indonesia. clothes, culture, religion, the sea, the moon, the stars, the sun, all kinds of fish, boats, minerals, all belong to Indonesia. all the people and all the nations in all of southeast asia and around southeast asia have robbed and claimed what has been Indonesia's property since this world existed. other nations in this world have nothing, everything they have is stolen from Indonesia.
