Interview with Cloudwater: Paul Jones, The Pioneering Brewer, Reveals All
Matthew Curtis took us around Manchester and visited a few iconic breweries. We were excited and privileged to chat with Paul Jones from Cloudwater Brew Co. It was fantastic talking to Paul, who doesn't hold back and reveals all about running Cloudwater, the craft beer industry and how it affected his health.
Cloudwater is an independent brewery focused on exciting new beers and hearty community experiences. They have crafted an extensive array of beers spanning the spectrum of old and new styles, embracing both classical and imaginative inspirations. This journey has been a constant evolution of their brewing expertise, a refinement of sensory evaluation techniques, and a series of trials exploring fermentation and process innovations-all in the relentless pursuit of elevating the quality of Cloudwaters beer to new heights.
Cloudwater Brew Co was founded in 2014 by Paul Jones, who had no prior experience in the brewing industry, and James Campbell, formerly the head brewer of Marble Brewery. The pair secured premises, which they furnished with a brewing kit imported from the United States. The relatively large size of the operation attracted considerable anticipation in the British beer community.
The brewery soon gained recognition for the quality of its beers and, within two years, was named the fifth-best brewery in the world by RateBeer, becoming the first and (as of 2020) only UK brewery ever to make the top. At the 2017 awards, Cloudwater climbed to second place.
