I met David Gilmour in 1984 back stage at a concert in Hollywood Calif. He gave me a signed album that I have in my music room. We talked for 22 minutes. I called him…“The Master Of The Stratocaster” He smiled. I asked if I could shake both his hands that make such great guitar solos, he smiled bigger and said “Sure” and shock both hands at the same time, making a cross between us, I smiled HUGE. I asked him to describe his technique of playing guitar, he replied… “I strike a note, bend it, shake it and then release it”…. Yes, he does that quite well.

Not many people who achieve that level of fame can still be so comfortable just being themselves. David has that vibe. I’ve watched and listened to all his interviews and he’s always the same, appearing to struggle to really care about the interview, but polite and willing to play along. He only gets uncomfortable when someone lays praise upon him. I like that kind of human.

David Gilmour is such an incredibly intriguing and a fascinating person! Pink Floyd is the most fascinating band I can think of! After seeing the live performance of DSOTM on the pulse dvd bonus disc and having seen them live in 94 its my opinion that Waters wasnt too difficult to have someone fill his shoes for live shows! What Nick says about school, about the necessity of learning to work and enjoy working, is so important. That's the primary issue I see with institutional education, and with policymakers' measures towards it. There's a singular focus on content rather than process, and it leaves so many students behind not just academically but in life in general. I'm one of them, sad to say.

Had a chance to see Pink Floyd a number of times. NYC Carnegie Hall, Hollywood Bowl and Saratoga, NY. At Saratoga I couldn't hear anything when they finished. Totally deaf. What scared me was the drive home with 1,000's of other cars on the road who were totally deaf as well. Carnegie Hall was a midnight concert. At the Hollywood bowl when we bought the tickets. We went inside and smoked a joint behind the control booth in the center of the Bowl. Two heads popped up and reached out to get a hit. It was Gilmore and Waters. They just took a few hits and passed it back to us. Didn't say anything and went on stage for a sound test. I couldn't believe I actually got stoned with Pink Floyd.

One of the biggest reasons "Dark Side" stayed in the charts is because everyone (especially audiophiles) kept buying it over and over again as soon as there was an clicks or pops (much less skips!) on the vinyl. You wanted that pristine, and the beginning of that album is so quiet that you don't want to hear all that crackle burying the music. (I feel like that's one reason White Album also sold so much over the years; you couldn't hear 'Long Long Long" if the record had too much wear on it, plus you had all those acoustic tunes on side 2. Not everyone kept their vinyl so pristine.)
