Betty's book, Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain, probably had more POSITIVE impact on me than almost the entire first 9 or 10 grades in school. I only wish this was taught at the beginning.
thank you for this interview. I am not an artist, I am horrible in drawing and I gave up this skill long time ago. I came to know Betty Edwards two weeks ago after searching how to develop and improve our cognitive abilities. I bought her book and wow her explanation in how we view things has already helped me in seeing a different world. This is not just drawing, it helps in viewing your inner self as well and to appreciate the world we see. Many thanks to you Paola and Betty ......Grazie tante
Outstanding video. I've read and learned how to draw better by using Betty's first book. I also purchased her newest book and have found it very helpful.
I work as a pharmacist, the creative skills I learned in her book taught me to invest in houses and make them look nice...I made much more from that than pharmacy and improved a few neighborhoods...it also encouraged me to view fitness aesthetically and take care of myself, most colleagues of mine are very unhealthy and out of shape...strange for a 'health' industry, its like they are blind to these things not to mention beautiful music Her books were one of the most influential and inspiring things of my life and I'm very grateful, she is one of my "idols".
One of the things I love about fitness is when I look at my self in the mirror I can see the shadows and light. I ask myself, if I were to draw me, how far should I push the blacks!!! Weird I know but it's a fun game...
I'd like to sincerely thank Dr Betty Edwards for changing my world and opening the door that was slightly ajar. It's probably the most impactful book in my life. I now SEE the world.
I tried the experiment with pointing and closing one eye, and then switching eyes….B. Edwards is correct. Optics have long been a subject of fascination from Newton to the present day. I will further be interested in how such theories of brain physiology can be used for the joy or artistic expression.
I always thought it was a game of paper rock and scissors...the left brain the intellect that cuts, the right brain the bleeding heart artist that is a paper like a hand open...and the rock the fist that is the action and energy of the body Somehow the intellect, artist and athlete each balance eachother out Mind, soul, body..they all have their own 'zone'
From what I have read about reading faces, the left eye represents the persons feeling about their past experience and the right eye expresses their attitude about the future. Any thoughts on how that correlates to a dominant eye?
Hi great video what is Michael’s full name? Or his social media if you know it and he’s ok with other artists reaching out to him. I have some art related questions based off the healing from trauma book he mentioned I wanted to ask him about if possible
Here's my take on the "We don't want our kid to be a starving artist" argument. I'm an Engineer and have excelled at science. However there is a big part of me that loves the creation side and the visualisation. Engineers and Scientists typically have to visualise and document concepts. We had technical drawing classes at University. They were good but I definitely would have gained more with Betty's approach. Maybe I would have become an Architect (which I've always loved). There is no down side to teaching kids this.
A professor tried to get me to read your book when i was in Architecture school. I thought the right brain was the bully side - i had the characteristics totally opposite. Because i had just been bullied by another professor, i thought it was another attempt. Very unfortunate. If only he had given me the book! Back then there was no money for yet another book. Architecture is an expensive education.
