I have been blessed in that I was born into the Traditional, Extraordinary Form of celebrating the Eucharist. The nuns taught us how to pray in Latin. This continues to this day! TY gentlemen.
Contradiction in terms. The Bugnini 1962 missal had the Canon altered, among other changes, and was only used for 2 1/2 years, so it isn't traditional.
Just purchased as this is so appropriate as Bishop John Iffert of Covington Kentucky has cancelled the priests of the MSJB of Our Lady of Lourdes unjustly. Was considering other parishes outside of Covington’s diocese, such as Cincinnati. I believe Old Saint Mary’s is a Latin Rite with priests from the Cincinnati oratory with a charism to Saint Philip Neri. I was hoping to read the authors chapter on SSPX to gain perspective. Thank you. Great interview
So why would Pope John Paul II excommunicate Levebvre for ordaining bishops outside of the Holy’s See approval, when he did the same thing in Poland before he was pope?
I find it amazing that "traditional Catholics" are up in arms over Francis, when JPII and Benedict XVI were just as apostate. Even more so in certain areas.
It wasn't the same. Wojtyła ordained priests, he did not consecrate bishops. Wojtyła had NOT been issued two explicitly written orders not to ordain. Wojtyła was behind the iron curtain. Poland was under authoritarian rule and the church was facing suppression. It cannot be ruled out that permission was given but not made public, so as not to draw the ire of the Communist authorities. But even if not, and no permission was given, Paul VI subsequently approved the ordinations. Clandestine ordination of priests is not an excommunicable offense and no excommunications were declared.
Pope Paul vi gived a interdict, suspensa at first and then excomunicated. anathemaised lettae senthentiae Lefebvre already in fact in1976.John Paul lI exagerated iurisdicted that excomunication de iure in 1987 and officialy in 1988 later he John Pauln ii in last days off his Papacy he John Paul ii lifted a bit the excomunication in 2003 , and then later it was partly anulathed by Benedict xvi in 2009 but the anathema on the fsspx from times off Paul vi from 1976 is stil a fact,😕
So it's interesting that John Paul to ordained bishops when Pope Paul the 6th said not to and yet that's the very thing that he excommunicated archbishop for. How ironic and hypocritical
We needed Cardinal Siri (who was elected but … something happened) instead of John XXIII. Let’s just say the enemy took our knight. Many things today would be different, certainly better.
Very informative with vindication of the positive role and direction taken by Abo Lefebvre & those who stood up to carry Tradition forward. My experience is that at the period from 1968-70 is one of deception and down right lies by churchmen leading faithful along the wrong road.. Fortunately, ultimately, we found the SSPX & TLM. In Eastern Australia SSPX ins constantly gaining faithful & reasonable number of converts from Protestantism. I do not contribute to diocesean funds but i certainly throw the way of SSPX. Trouble with modernist is that people like me, 81 years of age, remember. It would do well for people to read the writings of Canon Grogory Hesse, Father Luigi Villa, Fr Nicholas Gruner & Mr John Vennari. Don't forget "QUO PRIMUM" & Council of TRENT see all online. God Bless Abp. Lefebvre & Bishop Castro Meyer, both knowing the truth & stood firm against heresy. 🦘
If we refer to various accounts, it is commonly believed that 1) there existed a pope who was younger than eighteen years old, and 2) there was a female pope. If anyone possesses factual information regarding these claims, kindly provide a detailed narrative.
They were very good Popes! I grew up in times of communism and I was a child when Pope John Paul 2 was elected a pope . All my youth / student time he was a Pope and he loved Our Lady and the Catholic Church!
It depends who you ask. Everyone has an opinion. I think they were generally good popes who listened to some very bad cardinals and acted on some horrible advice. Of the three, Paul VI is objectively the worst because he allowed (though he could have stopped it) the destruction of the liturgy and the prayers of the Church. Francis, however, is more destructive than the three of those popes put together.
C-Mon Peter, stop blaming the hippies and a certain generation. It was your ilk, the learned, academia and theologians of several previous eras that brought this ‘messe’ in! The sheep in the pews were thunderstruck for the most part. But went along with the changes in obedience and humility not from certainty or happiness.
As long as man possesses a free will endowed by his Creator, a pope may chose to be fallible. Holy Orders does NOT convey perfection, sainthood, or infallibility upon any man. A pope may thus choose to be sinful, evil, or fallible or good according to his free will. God does NOT take away a man's free will to chose error over truth or evil over good just because the man was elected pope. A great grace (and responsibility) in bestowed on a pope by God through His Church. How that grace is received and acted upon by that pope depends on his free will for which an accounting will be demanded in the Day of Judgment.
Papal infallibility is not an everyday perk of the office. It has occured only twice: upon declaration that the Blessed Mother's Immaculate Conception and Assumption are doctrinal for Catholics.
I just can't help it. As a 40+ year faithful of the SSPX, it galls to hear this basically Johnny-come-lately condescend to "allow" that Archbishop Lefebvre, who is solely responsible, humanly speaking, for the survival of Tradition, i.e. the Church, did something that was *okay* after all. The truth is, there will never be a "uniting of the clans" because the SSPX is the only group that has the correct position regarding the Second Vatican Council and the Novus Ordo. Sure there are priests of the FSSP, the Institute, and even regular diocesan ones, who like and prefer the old Mass, but that is nothing compared to the stalwart position of the SSPX who OFFICIALLY hold the correct position, not just a priest here and there. Officially, the others cling to Vatican II and all of its spawns.
< the SSPX is the only group that has the correct position> The SSPX tramples on Church teaching on the papacy. That is not traditional and it is not Catholic. Also, the SSPX uses the Bugnini missal which had the Canon altered and was only used for 2 1/2 years.
solely responsible? you must be either joking or seriously ignorant. There were other brave priests and bishops. But the archbishop did finally get in line with VII when the charismatic Karol came along.
Two SSPX Chapels I attend are overflowing with people at Sunday Mass. One needs to arrive early to get a seat. I grew up in Novus Ordo and dropped out due to boredom and a feeling God was not there. I never new TLM existed until decades later. I love attending Mass at the SSPX. The standard of the Society's Priests is high.
To go to a TLM I would have to travel 250 miles so the NO Mass is the only Mass that's available. We have Nigerian Priests and a priest from India who are very reverent and make it work for us. Even during Covid lockdown our Nigerian priest had a daily Mass. I feel that no matter what they will love and care for their flock.
Dr Kwasniewski please convince a novus ordo traditional Catholic that it is not a mortal sin to receive Holy Communion in an SSPX chapel and that Archbishop Lefebvre was not an arrogant disobedient prelate who was excommunicated rightly. He believes that God would have found a way for tradition to continue without this disobedience.😢 thank you for sharing your brilliant mind with our church in crisis. God bless and protect you two very intelligent humble men of God
Wondering what St. John Vianney would think about an ordained priest blessing a same-sex couple before baptizing their adopted child whose Godparents are "transgender" Catholic school teachers?
Yes Kennedy - I agree - these are in my opinion 2 of the wisest and most important voices in the Church today (and I would include you as well) - I follow them very closely (ha and I follow your channel closely as well) - you all seem to me to be very sincere and humble lovers of Jesus and His Church -
If we refer to various accounts, it is commonly believed that 1) there existed a pope who was younger than eighteen years old, and 2) there was a female pope. If anyone possesses factual information regarding these claims, kindly provide a detailed narrative.
I assume the phrase "current situation" is alluding to a kind of Frankenpope consisting of Borgia's moral theology, Luther's faithfulness to tradition and Harnack's approach to revelation in general.🫣🧟♂️
I would say ignore Pope Frances!!There have been many bad pope's in the past and the church has survived ,the laity help any church to survive---they are the faithful followers of Christ.
Our salvation depends on being united to the pope. He cannot be ignored. If Francis doesn't have papal authority, then it is an entirely different story.
Read St. Peter Damian's Liber Gomorrianus. St. Peter Damian is a Doctor of the Church, founded by Our Lord Jesus Christ, which means that his words are Truth, forever and always.. He explains in great detail, exactly Why Not, and what to do about it.
That is such a complicated question, Rick. I think we should celebrate that gay people wish to be included - and honestly, the church never excluded anyone, anyway; in fact the much loved and revered Catholic theologian saint, st John Henry Newman lived alongside his platonic male friend whom he loved so dearly that they are buried together. Love, true love, comes from God. The complicated thing is sex - to quote Cameron Diaz in ‘the Holiday’ “sex makes everything complicated”. God bless you Rick.
