After the 24.02.2022, Butscha falls under the complete control of russian occupation troops. The occupiers begin to selectively arrest and murder male residents. Also indiscriminately shoot other civilians who are on the streets or in vehicles. The morgue was soon overcrowded and not functioning due too the cut electricity.
Local authorities were looking for a way to bury the many dead for a short time, so that they can be buried with dignity after the liberation.
"This is the 'russian world'. Where the 'russian world' is, unfortunately, there is death, there is looting, there is rape. We do not want this russian world."
Father Andriy Halavik stayed in Bucha during the occupation. He tells, how it came about that his church became the site of the mass grave from the 10th of March, 2022, on.
