he's 88 now, and here he must be what, 84? Cognitively perfect, what a great man a true genius in every sense of the word, what a treasure

Yes! John Williams is legendary. Jerry Goldsmith was an extremely talented composer as well! He was famous for his many movie scores, included that other sci-fi franchise: Star Trek!

Thank you, Larry, for sharing that Time w/ Mr Williams... We, present & former USAF members, can be mighty proud that, he also chose to wear Air-Force-Blue... His talk of, thematic-idea-searching, gives just a hint of the effort that Composing entails... A very Introspective Video, and so neat to be On-line for our enjoyment and enlightenment......

A fun interview. Thanks for posting! There was some talk in the beginning about traveling to hear other orchestras- which reminded me of this story by Andre Previn. He was introduced to the Great Pierre Monteux in SF by Leonard Bernstein in 1950. This was when Andre Previn was in the army service. Previn thought Monteux "That there was absolutely nothing pertaining to music that he didn't know." But he states Monteux seemed unaware of worldly happenings and didn't "take in" that he, Previn was in uniform. One day he told Monteux he would probably be put on the next posting to Japan. The great French conductor replied "Listen, my dear, you are making a mistake. Oh I know that the orchestra in Tokyo is meant to be good, but believe me I have heard them, and the winds and brass are very undernourished. You can do as well without traveling such a distance"
