I often watch Leonard's interviews to simply enjoy his humility, kindness and deep, deep wisdom. A man in whose company one would simply shut up and listen.
Well said, Larry. The man is a treasure, and what comes across clearly is that with all that he remains as the lady say, "a normal man". I don't see him that way, but it's revealing that she, living with him day to day, uses those words. You're so right that he is someone we should shut up and listen to. thanks for your note.
I am sad that I only discovered this "international treasure" after his passing....at a late life time, during my own physical and spiritual challenges. I am, however, joyous that his work and his persona have blessed me in so many ways, as I reconstruct myself, and open mind and heart to his joy - and his wisdom. Over the last five years, he has more than blessed this octogenarian, and I am profoundly grateful to You Tube and other sources of his body of work that keep him alive, relevant, and available to folks who otherwise might never have known him. Rest in power, blessed Troubadour, in your Tower of Song..
When you see all the negativity in the world, just for a second think again that the world also offers us Leonard Cohen. People like him make the world a better place to live in. Thank you for everything, Leonard. May you rest in peace.
At 8:30ff, "The real weapons of mass destruction are the hardened hearts of humanity." Leonard Cohen. I immediately paused this interview and wrote this down in my journal and thought to myself, "In what ways is this true in me?" Profoundly resonating. I so miss the humanity and depth of this man and his humility, not to mention the anticipation of new songs and poetry flowing out of him into our increasingly troubled world.
My wonderful wife introduced me to Leonard Cohen about 20 year's ago & I found him fascinating, brilliant & intriguing. I have been a serious fan ever since. I know he suffered immensely toward the end. RIP Sir.
As another late to the party guest, I concur that I deeply regret it as well. But aren't we blessed to have great technology to be able to hear and see this beautiful man; his music of course that, but also his wonderful interviews which give such insight into the character and the awesome soul of Mr. Leonard Cohen. (I've been trying to absorb as much as I can of this amazing human-being since first ever I found him, which was a little over two years ago!!)
@@conniewolf7300 So true! It's never 'late'. I happened to be at the right place at the right time in 1967-68 to encounter the first album. You don't look for something like this; it finds you.

Months ago I came across a song by the late Mr. Cohen and immediately fell in love. His style and flare have a character all its own, and a sound that swooshes the heart away on a journey into the outer bounds of love. It makes me forget all my thoughts and stress and I can only feel swept away . I had never heard of him before. Now that I've discovered he passed away ... I feel a great loss.
I knew of Leonard Cohen, however found myself delving into his last album and the more I found, the more interested I became only to discover just how enriched he was with a depth of spirituality and creative expression of his naked soul in his unique Leonard Cohen way, all the way to the end of his life, becoming purified in truth with great humility. I have a great respect for him!❤🙏
I discovered Leonard Cohen only just before he died and I think he is a magnificent artist and a fascinating man. We are so lucky to live in a time when you can take a deep dive of discovery of any artists body of work on RU-vid alone, as well as concerts, interviews and their life story. When I was young you had to go on recommendation or perhaps one song on the radio and then you would have to buy the album based upon a song and word of mouth. Discovering Leonard Cohen, to the point of rooting out every little thing I can find online has been like taking a wonderful journey and both making and losing a friend. This is the first interview in which I learned they were partners at the end and I'm very glad to hear he was loved and shared his time with such a talented partner that knew him so well for so many years.
Listening to Leonard Cohen's voice , his philosophy, wisdom , his humility, warmth ,insight humor as well as the beautiful poetry that he has put into touching , heart wrenching , hopeful beautiful Music and Song gives me a haunting , compassionate peace and steady heartfelt contentment. My wish is that he had lived 500 years. Much to you Leonard. Thanks for leaving us hope , kindness , and the reminder " when our harden hearts soften we are able to change the direction of this world and be a better people
SADLY MISSED I LOVE WHEN LEONARD SMILES HE LOOKS LIKE AN INQUISITIVE LITTLE BOY, HE STILL HAS THE SAME SMILE HE HAD AS A 5YR OLD AS SHOWN ON RU-vid L.C. THE EARLY YEARS FULL MOVIE, ABOUT HIS LIFE THERE'S A PART WHEN HE'S PEDDLING HIS BIKE WHILE BEING FILMED BY HIS FATHER , LEONARD STILL HAS THE SAME FACE NOT CHANGED 1 BIT, U MUST WATCH THIS AGAIN IF U'VE SEEN IT B4 THOUGH IT'S SAD NOW STILL FUN TO WATCH RIP LEONARD COHEN GENIUS XXXX
I first came to listen to his music in 1969 when someone gave me a cassette full of various artists which had Suzanne by LC on it. I went to the store & bought one album from him & the rest is history. I have all his albums on cassette & LP vinyl, then on CDs. To me the greatest singer, song writer, poet of the 20th century. No one comes close. RIP, Leonard I love so many of his songs but probably, Everybody Knows, The Famous Blue Raincoat, If It Be Your Will are my favorites.
When I first heard Suzanne long ago, I was married to a woman named Suzanne and it was like he had been reading my mail. His songs are filled with such gems of insight and wisdom I am so greatful to have known him via his music
His voice is very nice deep and baritone here. I like his clear voice and sense of the spirit of the moment in this interview. I have been a follower since 1976 with LC. Great artist.! There will never be another one like him. RIP .. my Friend. your songs have been there for me in my down times. and have inspired me to do my own.
"LOSING ALL OF YOUR MONEY..is enough to put a dent in your mood"(Leonard Cohen). God i loved this guy...strikes me he missed his real vocation....STAND-UP COMEDIAN...as well as all of the other successful areas of his life. RIP my "Brother of song".
Message to Al Gore.... WEAPONS. WEAPONS are the mass's destruction, And whichever card you choose to play, Before you take, the whole world on down, Think, think, THINK, what you'll be taking away. And i seem a little pissed, Here's something you may have missed, I forgot to mention all of those fools, Who, in positions of authority, they make the rules. Sonic Foxx Music(COPYRIGHTED). Dedicated to those like my own Grandfather STOKER HARRY PARSONS who died on board of HMS REPULSE...his own son, my father who has shed a million or more tears, wipes those tears away everytime and says.."HAVE WE LEARN'T NOTHING??"...................you decide Joe Public.
Having been robbed of millions of dollars, and still being that relaxed and forgiving about it... I think it says something about how we should live our lives to be happy and loving to other people. Cohen was a true example of humanity!
He was a good soul that sort is often targeted and ripped off he did not let it ruin him as a person but those that did it will burn in hell for it and they know it.
I found his work shortly before his life ended also, can't believe I lived all these years, love all music and somehow missed out on his work. Marvelous work, marvelous career, marvelous person! I think God missed having him with him, as we do now, and called him back home.
Yet it looked like the interviewer thought that he was going to go with her and put his arm out to stop him. Cohen was only being a gentleman and standing when his friend stood up.
Gaaahdamn he's just so cool..I love his interviews...when he talks...I'm hypnotized. I could write a book about all the times he has impressed me over the years...there will never be another like Leonard Cohen..he stands on his own & always will. The whole world lost something precious when he left💔
Leonard was a deep thinker who had a special way of describing his life experiences and those of others. Rest In Peace Leonard you are of the ages now.
I got into Leonard Cohen after watching the Christan Slater movie Pump Up The Volume, and I have never looked back, such a deep, warm soul and his music takes you to another world...R.I.P Leonard, sadly missed.
Leonard Cohen was a truly remarkable artist whose humanity, character, and profoundness shone through in his music and lyrics. He had a unique ability to touch people deeply with his introspective and soulful songs that delved into the complexities of life, love, and spirituality. His lyrics were filled with rich imagery, philosophical insights, and a deep sense of empathy and compassion for the human condition. Leonard Cohen was able to connect with people on a deep emotional level, offering solace, wisdom, and comfort to those who were grappling with their own struggles and searching for meaning. Leonard Cohen's humanity, character, and profoundness were evident in every note and lyric he composed, leaving a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of listening to his music.
Just discovered Leonard's music tonight (via Johnny Cash) such brilliant poetic lyrics and wonderful classical guitar tones. It's striking how humble he is too.
Mother Nature blesses his sublime soul. Hope his grands grandchildren bear a lot of his pure genius, to live sain and safe for ever and ever i memory of such artist.
such a lovely man and sharp as a knife.that correction al gore made at the end over what leonard said before about dark times captures some of the aspects what this great man was all about.i think it comes down to a point of view and leonard might as well be right.
Leonard always stands his grounds gracefully and makes it known, EXACTLY what his relationship is. Which it is NOT a "love story" and Leonard will not be told that he does have a love story with her. Leonard stammered to get it out, almost like he put on the brakes to keep things on the level! Nevertheless He made his TRUTH quite clear about her! 🐦 That's one of Leonard's strengths during all of his interviews ! I admired this quality in Leonard. 👏 BRAVO! Rest peacefully Leonard🙏
The heck is Gore doing there? Didn't even know he was there until 9:00 lol. So mesmerized my Cohen's voice and way of speaking I couldn't see anything else
To the moderator. When Mister Coen rose as Anjani got uo to sing he wasn't doing anything other than be a gentleman. A gentlemanalways rises when his lady does. He was always the ultimate gentelman
(Mr. Cohen adds that he was ordained as a monk while he was there.) He felt very dislocated.)
A REAL STAR AND GENTLEMAN WITH CLASS IN ABUNDANCE. WHEN MY WIFE AND I SPENT TIME IN HYDRA GREECE WE TOOK TIME TO VISIT WHAT WAS HIS LITTLE HOUSE WHERE HE PENNED MANY SONGS SUCH AS BIRD ON A WIRE AND SO LONG MARIANNE.HE IS WELL LOVED BY PEOPLE OF MATURE YEARS IN HYDRA STILL TO THIS DAY AND OF COURSE WORLD WIDE. WE WILL NEVER SEE YOUR LIKES AGAIN SWEET PRINCE. RIP LEONARD.
Lisa, yes you are spot on, Leonard knew the truth and was very clear in his own words. "Listen to the hummingbird s" "Listen to the voice of God Don't listen to me" His last recordings are quite reflective, honest and humble as he got closer to the end of his life. Thank God!🙏
