This was such a genuine interview from him, especially the end part where he said he would rather be once in an Allstar game to be made fun of than 1# overall pick in NHL

Great interview Scott and nice to see Nail the person not the "first overall." Nail's a lot like the many great Russians who come here to play they hold a deep love for their country....Dallas Eakin was heavily promoted by CBC especially Don Cherry along with TSN and Sportsnet because he was a Marlies product, Oilers took the bait and they went into a deep dive. Remember it like yesterday!

Heres a trivia question.....what is more likely to lead the Edmonton Oilers to a Stanley Cup 8+ years of Connor Mcdavid and Leon the Lion the way things are or 1 year of Nail Yakupov ,Sam Gagner, and Moma2??....Nail Yakupov has LIFELONG Oilers Fans and we all love hearing from him and seeing how well he sounds and looks, we want him back in the NHL Nail turned dirty NHL backdoor politics into a positively driven self-imposed sabbatical to reconnect to his Culture and that is understandable. We are all proud of how Nail has matured and how he has used all of his NHL and Life experiences as fuel to keep his hockey fires burning brightly, Nail sounds like he really cares about how the younger Players are doing and about many Team details that make it easier for the younger fellas and these are outstanding qualities to hang your hat on.Moma2 has made the terms of reconciliation clear enough and 2 very important Contracts are expiring very very soon.

Man, his English is SO much better than I remember when he was with the Oilers. Always loved Yakupov. I was bummed out that it didn't work out for him in Edmonton. I'll never forget the story in local news about how he took a homeless guy out for lunch and gave him money without asking for any accolades (it was the homeless guy himself who went to reporters about it). Solid guy. P.S: Yakupov wasn't the only Oiler who couldn't stand Eakins.

@BobsUruncle-dl7cs
@BobsUruncle-dl7cs 8 месяцев назад
@@mvd4436No it was a perfect fit, the Oilers needed a natural shooter to compliment RNH and Hall, and the Oilers dynamic style of play and Nail Yakupov was perfect, the OIlers Coaches and Management and ownership were shortly thereafter in the middle of many many dyslexic changes concerning the Teams Leadership Identity and style and this created many problems that hurt the FRanchise. Nail Yakupov was a perfect fit when he was drafted as his 1st year proves, then Oilers made core value changes that were huge mistakes mostly ,then green Rookie fool Eakins destroyed everything by going bushleague and completely defensive with the system. Nail Yakupov is a DYNAMIC SHOOTER, he is not a static shooter like Ovie, Nail needs possesion and movement , Ovie needs an open spot and solid stance.The day Eakins was hired the Oilers sewered a#1 Overall Natural Shooter who today would be putting up 50-60 goals a year with Connor and Leon because today the Oilers play the way they were when he was drafted which was why he was drafted. Everything about Nails progress was perfect including his destination until Oilers ownership crapped the bed and let bad planning and inept managers screw everything up. Nail still is tailormade made for a System like the Oilers now use. Nail was never properly showcased after his move from Edmonton he was treated like a broken 1st overall and he was not helped to recover his confidence he was abandoned.... and for these things the Oilers are still paying dearly .....there will be no SC for Mcdavid unless Nail and Gagner the 2 who got hosed the worst are on the Team. 8 years in and no Cup is called a 100% success rate. 2 more years of the grinding gears and Connor Mcdavid bounces to Toronto with zero Cup wins as an Oiler .Then the Curse is over. History will speak for itself.

Nail definately did not 100% say he would not consider a return to the NHL or to Edmonton , Nail has matured a lot, he is a great conversationalist and very genuine, I think that this Oilers Club under its current management with its current Roster would be a perfect fit for Nail Yakupov. Nail could sign a short NHL minimum salary contract that would allow him to play enough games to at least earn him his NHL Pension. Nail is in his Prime and IMHO would be a very good addition. Can you imagine Connor and Leon feeding Nail passes now that they are both matured and Elite? Some Players really are late Bloomers.Having a #1 Overall pick who is now a mature man as a reclamation project playing on your 4th line and 2nd PP is what Championship depth looks like. Brian Burke was mad @ Kevin Lowe so Burke seized upon the Oilers mishandeling of Yakupov and Burke the low class guy that he is blew that up into an even bigger issue to make Lowe look like an idiot for not seeing all of Nails alleged flaws before he was Drafted. Burke knew Eakins had crucified Nail and the Oilers were cutting ties so he decided to stomp on Nail while he was down and use him as a weapon to ridicule Kevin Lowe over their own beef. Dubnyk should have shut his mouth and learned about that shot to the Elbow because today the entire NHL focuses on that same shot....Dubnyk was run out of Edmonton for letting in a copious volume of long shots from 3 feet inside the Blueline...lol...lol...I say Holland pulls a Magic Trick and signs Nail before the Trade Deadline and Nails current Club will cut him free and help him 100% to try the NHL one more time because they know he loves home and will return to finish his playing days there.This is the Oilers way to break the Stanley Cup curse Canada is suffering.

You better go back and check the comments on Eckholms YT Playoffs videos last year because "someone" gave him a hot tip that the Oilers were going to be executed via the slot or "slotered"....many games before it was actioned upon them. The Oilers demise was System based and they were surgically removed by a Hockey tactician that cannot be bested. Surgically removed again because the Sweep to the Aves was also System focused and was no fluke either.Champ.

Great, honest, no bullshit interview. Good thing he accepted his past and looks forward for the future and his life outside hockey. People forget that hockey is entertainment business and not your whole life. He had alot of games in the NHL and now making some money in the khl. He for sure made it, maybe he didnt reach his fully potential or expectations. But thats life!

Nice spin but not accurate , Nail; is still in his 20s and is in his Prime and deserves to be given a proper shot @ the NHL . Nail was blackballed and for every year he has lost so will Mcdavid and Leon and the rest of the Oilers lose their SC Dreams.Lots of money in Edmonton and lots of Honey but NO STANLEY CUP FOR CONJOBS.Same for Mcavid one could say he had a lot of NHL games and made some money but now he has to think about life after the NHL with his new wife because there is no SC coming in Edmonton, unless Nail is there to. Book it Dano.People will remember Mcdavids and Lowes and Katzes failures in Edmonton much much longer than Nails blackballing.Proof in the Pudding is that the Oilers will be in deep"endemic" trouble exiting their own zone this year and in transtioning the n-zone . Eckholm just might have a bad year

Great interview. I feel like the lots of Russian guys who where drafted the same year and right before were not being supported well enough by their teams and perhaps their managers? Look at Galchenyuk, the Kostitsyn brothers, etc. I know that the Kostitsyn and Galchenyuk were kinda let loose and took way too much advantage of the MTL night life, but come on, they are drafted as kids, in a very different country with insane pressure, with big paychecks. It has to be hard to handle for some, especially when you’re drafted so high.

Nail Yakupov NEVER EVER BLAMED ANYONE. Note that its important . He has matured beyond his past now, no grudges no blame no bitterness, nothing an arsehole like Burke would expect. Understand that this player was blackballed then go into a full stop before you misconstrue things. I 100% respect John Scott for allowing Nail Yakupov a chance to have his voice heard over and above the bitter revenge fueled buffoon Burkes.

After this interview, I really think much of the reason he was a bust was that he went #1, 2012 was one of the weakest draft years, and that Edmonton was horrible at developing players. Not to mention that he had a new coach every year and no stable veterans to show him the way. Not to take all the blame away from him, but the kid was setup to fail. Add in the Edmonton media and pressure on this first overall pick (likely wouldn’t have been in a normal draft year), he would’ve been FAR better off in a different market like Columbus, Dallas or Anaheim.

This was awesome John. It's really nice to finally hear the whole story. Just like we have learned with the "plandemic" the truth about the mainstream media, it's essentially believe exactly the opposite you read or see in the mainstream media. They are controlled and have a set narrative and clearly it's not a lot different with sport. Wow I can fully understand now why the kid was a "flop". If he could have only had proper stewardship he'd probably have been a major star. From my "minor pro experience" I'd say in retrospect that had they kept him in Russia kind of like Teemu stayed in Finland till 23 years old before he came to Wpg. Then brought him over it most likely would have been a much different story. Okay and with a different organization. Edmonton was tire fire all those years really until they cleaned house of the old administration and brought in Kenny Holland... Really like Nail now. I wish the very best for him.

Nail could have been great. Eakins imo is one of the worst NHL coaches of all time. None of the players liked him. He didn't use Nail properly and there were some bad breaks for Yaks. When him, McD and Pouliot were on a line together, they were playing great. Then McD got taken out by that brutal fractured collarbone and a few games later Yaks got a freak injury from a ref. That changed the whole trajectory of the future. It is what it is. I hope Yaks nothing but the best. We'll always have that game against LA

@@MuhammadZegras The entire Chapter of sneaking Dellow through Eakins into the NHL was a dry run for Dubas and Keefe. There are some real pieces of shit working @ the NHL level. @BobsUruncle-dl7cs 9 месяцев назад
@@MuhammadZegras Eakins was in bed with Dellow figuratively speaking . It was a complicated situation and we will never get the whole story because mountains have been moved to keep it covered up. Somebody did a bad bad bad thing that hurt someone vulnerable actually someone not named Nail who is handicapped, and they undermined that persons life really really badly by wrongfully depriving them of legitimate opportunity . Seems to have brought them a little bad luck huh? No #1 Overall has ever been mishandled then blackballed to hide that fact like Yakupov was in Edmonton, fact is the Team could not possibly properly groom and handle all the #1 picks and they were to stupid to see that and to apathetic to make trades to thin the herd early on.

Nice guy and very easy to cheer for. It's understandable why so many people still go to bat for him and blame his lack of NHL(or even KHL) success on being poorly developed. Yakupov never wanted to work on his weaknesses, that's on him not Eakins. Also the fact he had the hockey IQ of a turnip didn't exactly help.
@BobsUruncle-dl7cs
@BobsUruncle-dl7cs 9 месяцев назад
Passive aggressive approach , we can all see how intelligent and well spoken Nail Yakupov is today and the cowardly attacks on hockey iq are typical of haters who are usually trying to protect one or more of the arseholes who worked together to derail Nails NHL career.. Nail worked his arse off and was doing really well to start his NHL career then his care and maintenance as a #1 overall was thrown to the dogs or Eakins if you will. Nail Yakupov was blackballed and anyone who doesnt admit or aknowledge that must have just fallen off the Turnip Truck themselves. See what we did there? Eakins was a conjob fraud who worked with Dellow to rip off other peoples work and he should have never ever been allowed near those young Oilers. Nail has some diehard fans in his corner and they have and will continue to stand up for him. I dont have to lie to protect the NHL or Brian Burke or Kevin Lowe or Craig Mactavish or Dellow or Eakins or the Volunteer working for the Oilers Site Comments section who betrayed Edmonton and traitored out to Dellow/Dubas and the rest of the so-called"online advanced stats groupies/kids" conjobs who were snuck into the NHL through the backdoor during a tumultuous time in NHL history .
