did you make your dream come true? mine is to become a dubber or a forest ranger. Next year I have the final exam, after high school I will see which of the 2 jobs to do
I think I have finally found my calling. I just applied to Volcano National Park. As a combat vet, Military Police officer, an historian, lifelong backpacker and fisherman.. I almost teared up thinking about it.
I recently graduated HS and I’m trying to figure out my path to become a park ranger. I live in California so there’s a lot of opportunities for me, I just don’t know where to start...first things first I’m gonna try to go to Humboldt state!
@@kyletomlinson5365 just a corrupt organization that abuses young adults and uses them for cheap labor, most if not all of the kids end up working in warehouses after. I was in the program for almost a year and expierienced extreme abuse of power. But after you leave and make career moves for yourself they call and ask to interview you to put you on their fb page of success wich is all complete bullshit. Most of the kids who have made it did it on their own, had done schooling that isnt offered in the program or networked their way in. I suggest other ways such as americorps or pathways program. Avoid ccc. Their are plenty of other organizations to look into
Me too! I went to Rocky Mountain National Park this past week for the first time, and I have to say, it was one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen. I definitely want to be a park ranger there one day.
It seems a lot of people here want to be park rangers because they like the outdoors and being in nature. If that's the case make that your hobby and do it on your own dime- not the tax payers. Being a ranger is a job not a way to get free money for your own hobby interests.
Sam Smith what an ignorant thing to say. If there are parks there will be rangers and they will get paid regardless of who they are, so her not becoming a ranger isn't saving you a fucking penny. If she doesn't do it somebody else will. Also, people who enjoy what they're doing tend to be better at it and be friendlier people. And they don't waste their time being dumbasses and trolling the internet.
Are you guys hiring ??? I love outdoors, and your job looks like haven on Earth. I am trying to make up my mind what I am going to do when i'll leave military in couple years. Any thing to do with camp maintainer or trails upkeep?
Public Notice: She doesn't tell you because she has not been told that National Parks protect unbelievable critters all shapes and sizes live in these areas." The Big Three" are not alone in the woods ❣️ Take a closer look 👀 together we will figure it out ❣️✌️☮️😎🌉🗺️👀👣🏖️🌲
Most government jobs require school, experience, or a combination of both. USA Jobs (usajobs.gov) is the website where the US Government posts jobs. Each job has a different pay grade, and as a student who has worked for the Government I can tell you that you can get seasonal jobs to help get your foot in the door. A maintenance ranger will have different qualifications than a protection ranger will. Permanent positions (GS-05/06 and up) usually require at least a Bachelor's degree (4 years) in Conservation Biology, Environmental Science, or a related field of study.
I am sorry but does anyone else find it ridiculous that she paid all that money and went to grad school to end up essentially working at a customer service desk?
Its ridiculous you have to pay to get a job like this...its like when I got a job with 4 seasons and then realized many of the people I was surrounded by went to college and got hospitality degrees to become servers, front deskers, and what not..there will come a day there will be a college major for fast food worker or a specialty degree in housekeeping..I think its a dangerous direction. You think those guys carrying ak47 in Kenya doing tours, managing guests, patrolling for poachers, and monitoring wildlife have a degree? Hire me..its not the paper but the passion for the work you need.
As James said, there really is a lot more to it than simply answering questions. My declared major is Conservation and Wildlife Biology, Law Enforcement. The courses I take are a mix of various environmental biology courses to basic biology and criminal justice courses. You don't need to go to grad school to be an interpretive park ranger. You definitely do need it to become a wildlife biologist or any other research biology position. In fact, you basically need a doctorate. I'm two years into school and I've worked for the US Fish and Wildlife Service and I have a job for this next summer with the US Forest Service. We are expected to be experts in our field, and we are also expected to give people correct information. With my degree, I can be a Law Enforcement Ranger who can tell you what types of birds, mammals, reptiles, and vegetation you see around you. There really is more to it ;)
I doubt he's going to be a ranger because he lives in Poland. Unless he's going to move to the US and compete with veterans, people with masters degrees, people who have been doing it for countless years, and US born citizens, then more than likely he isn't going to become one.

Since there’s plenty of fellow aspiring park rangers here, does any know how being an Asian American female effects your chances of getting a job? I understand how being female is beneficial, but majority of park rangers I’ve seen are white and I’m slightly discouraged due to the lack of Asian rangers. Please be realistic and thank you beforehand!
They'll never hire you. The National Park Service hates Asians. Seriously though. Give me a break. Your race has nothing to do with it. If anything, your Asian roots and the fact that you are female may even help. It's a government job. They're always trying to fill jobs based on diversity. If you're a veteran that'll help even more.
Really? Why are you surprised? Why are you so bias and so sexist? If this is what you comment after seeing a video with women in it, you need to get off the internet. -or get common sense
I am a 34 year old male with an Associates. I've always been interested in being a park ranger. After watching this video, I really only have one question. Do they only hire lesbians?
Young men who are trying to become park rangers have EXTREME obstacles to overcome- a little encouragement seeing male role-models would have been nice. Since there are way more men than women who apply and women get special preference in the hiring process, there is only a 1 out of 300-600 chance a typical male applicant will get this extremely coveted job so they can support their wife and children.
Or maybe you just suck and they didn't want to hire you. Idk about you, but I've RARELY ever seen women showcased in this field. And you have the audacity to complain about the lack of MALE representation? Really?? All we ever see are men. Always. Christ
@@genralawsome244 idk if you were aware, but that park is in America where we've realized everything a man can do, a woman can do too. Maybe you should catch up. And no it's not only women, but the video is showcasing women because of the lack of diversity in the National Park Service.
