The story in about to tell you is one of the best moments of my life meeting Steve Adler. I was and technically still am the drummer for a local band from Atlanta, Ga called Slutrag. Some of our music is in RU-vid if you'd like to check it out. Anyway we played the local scene for a while and even with what I though to be a ridiculous name we ended up getting pretty big gigs. Anyway, we landed a gig opening up for Steve Adler when he was on a tour called "The bad Boys of Rock 'N' Roll". Jamie Lane from Warrant was there. Kevin Dubrow from Quiet Riot. The lead singer Marq Torien from Bullet Boys. There was a small venue in Jonesboro, Ga called Breakers which is now called Furnace 41. Anyway load in time was 3pm so my band and I show up and proceed to load so of our equipment in. I walk from the back stage area to the front of the venue where the bar is. Steve Adler is sitting at the bar by himself and I immediately say what's up brother? He replies the same. I sat down with him and we started talking about life, Rock N Roll, etc. This was years after he'd been fired from GnR. Anyway he seemed to me like a very fragile guy who would break into pieces of you shook him too hard. He kept bumming smokes of of me and I kept buying him and I shots throughout the conversation. I finally worked up the nerve to ask him this question. I asked him and I quote " How does it feel to be playing in front of maybe 150 to 200 people after playing sold out arenas with GnR?" Adler without missing a beat says "I'm a fucking Rock Star and it doesn't matter if it's 4, 40, 4,000, or 400,000 people I fucking Rock for them!!!" I loved that answer, but was still unsure of his ability, because of how fragile he seemed. Anyway, when they went on stage Adler blew me the fuck away with how awesome and energetic he was!!! He literally killed that drum kit and I was in awe!!!! Moral to the story is he may have looked like his better days were behind him, but after that show I felt as if he was just hitting his stride!!!! Great guy and fun to chat with!! Also I took a photo with Kevin Dubrow from Quiet Riot not knowing he'd pass later that next year. RIP Kevin
